The case of around 50 white Afrikaner refugees from South Africa has turned the political discourse upside down. After years of never finding a migrant they didn't approve of, Democrats and their press allies are suddenly greatly offended that President Donald Trump would dare grant asylum to a statistically insignificant number of people. On CNN, former Obama campaign official and current analyst Ashley Allison went on a racist rant, proclaiming they should go back to "Germany" if they don't like the "law of the land" of being persecuted financially and physically. Notably, Afrikaners, who migrated to South Africa some 400 years ago, aren't from Germany,

The people I met in South Africa who were Afrikaaners had been in South Africa as long or longer than any white people had been in the USA. IIRC, the first Boers settled there in the early 1600s. The biggest Boer migration was about 200 years ago, after the USA was founded, but not by much. They had a hell of a fight with the Brits over independence in the 1890s, but the Brits used the 'concentration camps' approach to break the back of the unsurgency which was defeating them on the battlefield, much the way we were defeating them. I felt significant kinship to the Boer South Africans, and found them to be wonderful, welcoming people. One friend of an American friend took us in to his remote rural vacation cabin on 1700 acres for a few nights and we walked with the giraffes, leopards, impala and kudu all around....although we didn't see any of the leopards. The week after we left, they texted that they had seen a family of leopards on their property. Their son's family, using the vacation home a few months later, set a photo of a family of cheetahs on the property. The "ordinary" birds are not ordinary, all is amazing in Africa, although EVERYTHING has claws, teeth, horns, hooves and hideous thorns. Everything. Believe it. I have a great photo of my wife about 50 yds from a mother giraffe and her 'infant'. The infant is about 10-11 ft tall! I have very fond memories of RSA, the country and the people. Unfortunately, far too many of the blacks were, even then, quite violent. We were repeatedly warned to stay out of Johannesburg except to go to and from the airport. We traveled by car on our own for 10 days in NE RSA and saw forested lands like Washington and Oregon, and high veldt (dry forests) similar to parts of the US western mountains, mountain villages that supported the trout fishing tourist trade like in Germany, and desert lowveldt areas full of thorn trees and magnificent herds of literally dozens of species of African antelopes. We have three kinds of deer, the antelope, the elk, the moose and that's it here in North America. In Africa it is about three dozen VERY different species. A wonderful place....now ruined like Rhodesia was ruined. At one time, in the 1960s and 1970s Rhodesia and South Africa were headquarters for world medical advancement in several fields, especially heart surgery. Today, one is a starving third world hell hole, and the other is rapidly headed that way.

As a leftist talking head said on air yesterday - - "Only a few have been murdered." So you see - - no big deal - - when the genocide is small. Just like the housing developments in Colorado - - "only a few" were taken over by violent criminal gangs. Yes - - it's OK - - when it's "only a few."

FTA: "They flee not from persecution, but from justice, equality, and accountability for historic privilege." Of course they're fleeing persecution. Why would anyone stick around to suffer "accountability" for a "historic privilege" that no longer exists and was not created by any of those targeted for punishment based upon skin color? Democrats were fine with shifting American resources to unvetted foreign criminals at the expense of US taxpayers and innocent citizens who became their victims. It seems entirely appropriate to give genuine asylum seekers an opportunity to contribute to our society.

FTA (excerpt from statement by ANC in Johannesburg): "What the instigators of this falsehood seek is not safety, but impunity from transformation. They flee not from persecution, but from justice, equality, and accountability for historic privilege." Statement excerpt from the ANC in Johannesburg. If one read this excerpt without the heading, it appears to be written by Obama or any number of progressive democrats, who have made it fashionable to be openly racist against white people within our own country. No offers of sanctuary for non-Marxist refugees by the notorious Blue cities and states is very telling.

SA needs another Lt. Bromhead and Lt. Chard to lead a couple of divisions there to clean up the country. It's a s...hole since the Brits left. Corruption, filth and crime. If all the whites left, which they probably should, the country would revert to the Stone Age.

I visited South Africa about 12 years ago. We landed in Johannesburg and left immediately to a little hotel outside the city that had a 10-foot wall around it, with spikes on the top. The city was too dangerous to stay in. South Africa was a beautiful country. Along with the wildlife, we saw large farms growing everything you could think of. If the white Afrikaners running the farms and businesses are displaced, the country will descend into poverty and anarchy - just like every other country in Africa.

Thank you so much for your prayers, #10. It has been a long road, and while I can get around reasonably well now, my upper body strength is still way down, and shoulder on one side still has far less lifting strength than before. I think that by the one year mark, I'll be closer to normal. I will bet two years to get fully recovered. One does not bounce back in their 70s like in their 50s. Grin. Prayers are very much appreciated.

f you want peace, prepare for war. For centuries, those six words kept empires intact. They built walls in Rome, silenced tyrants in Berlin, and kept the peace during America’s rise as a superpower. Today, they’re more than just an ancient motto; they are policy, and President Donald J. Trump knows it. As Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark) put it, that's the difference between the “America First” worldview and the “Blame America First” mindset that preceded it and nearly wrecked us. Barack Obama’s deal with Iran let the mullahs keep their centrifuges spinning. The regime’s uranium program remained intact, their terror networks well-fed, and their confidence unshaken.

Walmart said Thursday it plans to raise prices on some goods beginning later this month, in response to President Trump’s tariffs. “We will do our best to keep our prices as low as possible but given the magnitude of the tariffs, even at the reduced levels announced this week, we aren’t able to absorb all the pressure given the reality of narrow retail margins,” Walmart CEO Doug McMillon is expected to say during a Thursday earnings call, according to prepared remarks obtained by several media outlets. President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday a $200 billion deal between Qatar Airways and Boeing, a lifeline for the beleaguered American aerospace giant and a powerful symbol of the diplomatic maneuvering defining his presidency. The agreement, signed in Doha during Trump’s Middle East tour, includes the purchase of 160 Boeing jets by the state-owned Qatari carrier. “It’s over $200 billion, but 160 in terms of the jets. That’s fantastic,” Trump said at the signing ceremony, flanked by Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and Boeing Chief Executive Kelly Ortberg. The deal marks a rare bright spot for Boeing, whose fortunes have been in freefall.

California Governor Gavin Newsom said Wednesday he wants the state to stop enrolling more low-income illegal immigrants in a state-funded health care program, beginning next year. Under Newsom’s plan, the state would not end coverage for illegal immigrants who are already enrolled in Medi-Cal, the state’s Medicaid program. However, the state would begin charging adults with “unsatisfactory immigrant status” a monthly premium of $100 beginning in 2027. Newsom’s announcement comes after the governor previously said in March he was not considering rolling back health benefits for low-income illegal immigrants, even as the state contended with a $6.2 billion Medicaid shortfall.

The Israel Defense Forces, which did not confirm if Sinwar was killed, said in a statement that it had targeted Hamas operatives at an underground command center belonging to the terror group, below the European Hospital in Khan Younis. The military also released footage from the aftermath of the strike. The video purported to show that the IDF strike had uncovered the tunnel under the hospital, though the footage showed an adjacent school and not the medical center.

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is investigating whether Harvard University unlawfully hires faculty based on race and sex, arguing that the school’s own data provides evidence of discrimination. The probe is the latest federal action against the beleaguered university, which last month sued the Trump administration over its decision to freeze more than $2 billion in aid to the Ivy League school. In a document initiating the investigation, the EEOC cited materials on Harvard’s website—many of them now deleted—in which the school bragged about increasing the number of "women, non-binary, and/or people of color" on the faculty. The largest increase was in the share of non-white tenure-track faculty

Harvard can't claim they weren't warned. Education Secretary Linda McMahon sent a letter a week ago to Harvard president Alan Garber warning him to start complying with the administration's interpretation of the Civil Rights Act and two Supreme Court decisions on discrimination. Harvard ignored the letter until yesterday, when Garber tried sweet-talking McMahon out of her decision to disqualify Harvard from any federal funding until they acted to end discrimination and anti-Semitic intimidation campaigns on campus. Garber tried to argue that he and McMahon were sympatico on those goals, but just differed on how to achieve them:

Beege's excellent post on the financial bonanza that Trump's tariffs have brought highlights one side of the story that the Pravda Media didn't expect. JP Morgan's reversal of its prediction that Trump's trade policy would usher in a recession tells the other side. All the "best people" have missed the point of Trump's moves to reshape world trade. JP Morgan's prediction that the tariffs would usher in a serious recession was not insane. Any economist will tell you that, all other things being equal, reducing the friction involved in people trading will reduce the efficiency of the market. Inefficient markets increase costs, reduce economic activity, and lead to lower growth.
