Habemus papam — we have a pope, and progressive Catholics will likely be pleased. And for the first time ever, the pope is an American.
Cardinal Robert Prevost, now Leo XIV, is an American who also has Peruvian citizenship. He was a favorite of the late Pope Francis but has often kept a fairly low public profile, meaning that while his tendencies indicate a less traditional and strictly doctrinal perspective, his likely actions as pope have yet to be clearly predicted. But his first speech ominously seemed much in line with progressive rhetoric.
It is unfortunate that the new pope was a favorite of the late Pope Francis, who prioritized leftist politics

Governor Tim Walz (D-MN) said Wednesday on MSNBC’s “The Briefing” that President Donald Trump will wear a military uniform soon because he was taking the United States toward authoritarianism.
Host Jen Psaki said, “Let me ask you, you said something in the New Yorker in March I thought was really interesting. I mean, you said we should prepare for the worst case scenario. I think many of us feel that way. We’re just over 100 days in, and I guess, are we in the worst case scenario right now or what are you exactly preparing for as governor?”
Walz said, “No I think it gets worse.

An alligator attacked and killed a woman who was canoeing with her husband on a central Florida lake Tuesday afternoon, authorities said, after her spouse tried unsuccessfuly to fight off the predator.
The attack occurred near the mouth of Tiger Creek into Lake Kissimmee, south of Orlando, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said. It's near the same location as a March alligator attack in which a woman was bitten on the elbow while kayaking.
At a news conference Wednesday, FWC Maj. Evan Laskowski said the woman was sitting in the bow of a 14-foot canoe when the attack happened. She and her husband were in about 2.5 feet

Wild viral footage has captured Frontier Airlines gate agents getting into a bust-up with a passenger who had sniped, “I’m never flying this sh—y airline again” after being hit with an unexpected $25 fee just to check in.
The caught-on-camera saga erupted when the male passenger — a 45-year-old married father of three — was trying to check in for his Frontier flight from Raleigh, NC, to Boston last Friday after a week-long business trip.
The passenger, who didn’t want to be identified, told The Post he’d arrived at the airport with roughly 50 minutes to spare but wasn’t able to check in on the electronic kiosk because,

This just in: Big animals that can weigh in at a ton, have inch-thick hides, masses of matted hair that is nearly as good as chain-mail armor, that wear big curved perforators on their heads, and that have prickly temperaments, can be dangerous. The animal described, of course, is the American bison, a big, imposing creature, a holdover from the last Ice Age.
And yet, people who think that nature is a Disney movie keep getting too close to them and getting hurt. The latest was a Florida man (of course) who fooled around and found out.

White smoke billowed from the chimney of the Sistine Chapel and the great bells of St. Peter's Basilica rang out on Thursday, signaling that a new pope—the 267th leader of the Catholic Church—had been chosen on just the second day of the conclave. At precisely 6:07 p.m., local time, the smoke rose into the late afternoon sky, sparking an emotional eruption from the tens of thousands gathered in St. Peter's Square. Cheers rang out as priests made the sign of the cross, nuns wept, and the crowd shouted in unison, "Viva il papa!" Flags from across the globe waved above the masses as they anxiously awaited the identity

MSNBC political commentator Al Sharpton claimed Thursday on “All In” that President Donald Trump is “fumbling the ball” to the point his voters are getting “buyer’s remorse.”
Sharpton said, “He promised on day one many things he hasn’t delivered. And now I think you said it best to sell austerity rather than prosperity is something that is miles away from what he told his own constituents, or his own supporters.”
He continued, “He does not have a deal. There is no deal. He’s announced something with England today that we really don’t know what that really means. We don’t know what’s going on with China.

Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-Vt.) appeared on Fox News on Wednesday for an interview with anchor Bret Baier on "Special Report," and I have to say that if anyone who watched that still supports this man, you need to have your head examined.
Sanders, of course, has been "fighting oligarchy" with his pal Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), aka AOC, but the problem is that a) most people don't know even what "oligarchy" is and b) Sanders reportedly spent $221,000 on private jets so he could attend those "Fighting Oligarchy" rallies.

Here we go again. It's apparently reading week at Columbia University which means lots of students are preparing for final exams in the quiet campus library. No doubt that's why a group of Hamas supporters decided to take over the library today. They want to create maximum disruption on campus. Here they are shoving their way inside past the minimal security at the entrance. They quickly ran upstairs and then took over a large library reading room on the 2nd floor. Time to bust out the headscarves and protest signs.

The Catholic Church has vowed to excommunicate any priest who follows a new Washington state law requiring clergy to report information about child abuse to law enforcement — even if given in the privacy of the confession booth.
Priests in the Evergreen State had enjoyed something similar to attorney-client privilege when hearing confessions, but the new law — which Democratic Gov. Bob Ferguson signed on Friday — revokes that protection for discussions of child abuse or neglect.

Republican Senator Thom Tillis has declared he will block President Trump’s choice for the crucial position of US Attorney for the District of Columbia, Ed Martin.
His no vote will sink the nomination and if Martin isn’t confirmed in time, his replacement reportedly could be chosen by Trump-hating US District judge James Boasberg.
Tillis doesn’t even have a plausible reason, telling reporters that his difference with Tillis is over the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot. Martin believes that some J6ers were unfairly over prosecuted and Tillis believes they all should have been jailed “for absolutely destroying the Capitol” — which never happened.

Don’t be discouraged, but this is the worst, most horrifying story I have ever had to cover. Whatever we believed the trafficking problem was, things were much worse, much more literally demonic, and much more widespread than anyone imagined. The first clue appeared yesterday in FBI Director Kash Patel’s astonishing tweet:
(Snip) Deeply disturbing is an understatement. For whatever reason, the media isn’t reporting the whole story. But the Trump Administration has initiated one of the largest and most urgent federal law enforcement responses in history. The ABC article buried the lede, which was that the entire FBI is now involved in responding to an altogether new and horrifying threat.
