Pritzker’s Progressive Trap

Original Article

Illinois governor J. B. Pritzker’s 2025 budget reveals a notable retreat from progressive ambitions. Despite his past advocacy for expansive government programs and robust social spending, Pritzker proposes neither substantial tax increases nor significant new initiatives. Most conspicuously absent from his accompanying budget speech was any mention that the state would no longer fund free health care for illegal aliens aged 42 to 64. Extending coverage to that age cohort had been one of his recent progressive efforts, introduced with fanfare. The governor had to abandon it after costs surged 286 percent beyond original projections, producing budgetary shortfalls of hundreds of millions of dollars.

Billionaire Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker is enjoying a moment in the soft-focus sunlight of rising national polls and fawning press. He’s the antidote to Donald Trump for Democrats. That’s a mirage. Pritzker, the prep school scion of the family that founded Hyatt Hotels, would be a disastrous choice for a party trying to turn the page on Trump’s populism. Like Trump himself, the prairie liberal did little to earn his wealth, inheriting his name and billions from a family that has been among America’s wealthiest since Forbes began keeping track. In suspiciously familiar territory, The Chicago Tribune caught him in lies about overseas accounts and businesses

After the Biden-Harris administration left Americans drowning in inflation, insecurity and incompetence, President Trump is rebuilding the country with the bold, pro-American leadership we were missing for four long years. In just a few short months, Mr. Trump has done what President Biden never could: restore economic confidence, reignite job growth and reassert control over a nation that had slipped into crisis. The April jobs report, which blew past Wall Street expectations, was good news for the stock market and a clear signal that the era of “Bidenomics” is finally ending. Wages are rising, and 177,000 new jobs have been created.

President Trump announced his first judicial nominee of his second term, kicking off what will be a historic next four years as he continues to build on the most consequential accomplishment of his first term by appointing even more bold and fearless judges. The stakes could not be higher as Democrat activist judges are actively sabotaging American voters, the presidency, our Constitution, and our country. Trump nominated Whitney Hermandorfer to a Tennessee-based seat on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. She is a brilliant legal mind and committed constitutionalist who has litigated critical First Amendment issues. Trump's first nomination stands in stark

Among the most fatuous exercises engaged in by the Fourth Estate after the voters elect a chief executive is the publication of the dreaded “first 100 days” editorial. Having endured a protracted and usually acrimonious political campaign, the long-suffering public is subjected to utterly predictable screeds penned by the new president’s enemies and equally inevitable encomia written by his supporters. All of this blather is predicated on the preposterous notion that it is possible to divine the ultimate success or failure of a presidency a little more than three months after inauguration day.
Trump’s order on sanctuary cities is

In a new executive order published yesterday, President Donald Trump placed a target on sanctuary cities and created yet another trap for his political foes. This new proposal requires the federal government to create a list of “sanctuary” jurisdictions which refuse to cooperate with federal authorities on immigration law. It instructs various federal departments to defund sanctuary jurisdictions as much as they can under current law, and also to establish policies which verify the legal status of those who receive federal benefits in sanctuary jurisdictions. What’s more, this executive order telegraphs that the Trump administration may escalate its legal battles.

Despite the media hysteria, Trump’s counterrevolution remains on course. Its ultimate fate will probably rest with the state of the economy by the November 2026 midterm elections. But its success also hinges on accomplishing what is right and long overdue—and then making such reforms quietly, compassionately, and methodically. The prior administration found that it was easy to destroy the border and welcome the influx. No country can long endure without sovereignty and security—or with 10 to 12 million illegal immigrants crossing the border and half a million criminal foreign nationals roaming freely.

I realize this may blow Democrats' minds, but 100 days into President Donald Trump’s second term, most of the millions of Americans who cast their vote for him are still happy they did. And Trump has not been twiddling his thumbs in these first months back in the Oval Office. There’s plenty to like or dislike, from his large number of executive orders to his federal cost-cutting bonanza with Tesla CEO Elon Musk. So, it’s telling that a recent poll shows the vast majority of Trump supporters would vote for him again now, if given the opportunity for a do-over.

Last week, after their absurd attempt to make a martyr of Salvadoran deportee Kilmar Abrego Garcia, some Democrats seemed to realize they had committed a political blunder. As Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Texas) put it, “I don’t know if that’s the right issue that Democrats should be focusing on right now.” Many polls, including a CBS/YouGov survey released Sunday, indicate that most Americans support the deportation of people living in the U.S. illegally. Yet, when a Wisconsin judge was arrested for aiding a “migrant” in his effort to escape immigration officials, the Democrats repeated their error.

I guess I am a total jerk, but according to The New York Times, I should be deeply concerned that an illegal alien from Jamaica who came here as an adult, was convicted of kidnapping and who spent most of his time in the United States, was deported back to his home country. David Hogg, the name synonymous with gun control theatrics, now holds a position of power as vice chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC). But does he have any idea what he's doing? His latest move suggests that the answer is a resounding "no." Instead of building the party, Hogg decided to launch a $20 million campaign to primary sitting Democrats in blue districts. You read that right. This dumb kid got himself elected as vice chair and now wants to spend millions to start a civil war within his own party.“We don't want to pick unnecessary fights, but we're willing to do that if our approval rating continues

Sen. Abrego Garcia had been living in Van Hollen’s home state of Maryland. Despite being in the country illegally, the country’s vast left-wing political machine has tried to advance the incorrect narrative that Abrego Garcia was a “legal resident” of the state. This is not true. Nevertheless, the senator claimed he was worried about Abrego Garcia’s well-being. Yet, that same kind of concern didn’t exist when it came to holding

Habemus papam — we have a pope, and progressive Catholics will likely be pleased. And for the first time ever, the pope is an American. Cardinal Robert Prevost, now Leo XIV, is an American who also has Peruvian citizenship. He was a favorite of the late Pope Francis but has often kept a fairly low public profile, meaning that while his tendencies indicate a less traditional and strictly doctrinal perspective, his likely actions as pope have yet to be clearly predicted. But his first speech ominously seemed much in line with progressive rhetoric. It is unfortunate that the new pope was a favorite of the late Pope Francis, who prioritized leftist politics

We’re just over 100 days in, and I guess, are we in the worst case scenario right now or what are you exactly preparing for as governor?” Walz said, “No I think it gets worse.

The animal described, of course, is the American bison, a big, imposing creature, a holdover from the last Ice Age. And yet, people who think that nature is a Disney movie keep getting too close to them and getting hurt. The latest was a Florida man (of course) who fooled around and found out. Sanders, of course, has been "fighting oligarchy" with his pal Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), aka AOC, but the problem is that a) most people don't know even what "oligarchy" is and b) Sanders reportedly spent $221,000 on private jets so he could attend those "Fighting Oligarchy" rallies.

The Catholic Church has vowed to excommunicate any priest who follows a new Washington state law requiring clergy to report information about child abuse to law enforcement — even if given in the privacy of the confession booth. Priests in the Evergreen State had enjoyed something similar to attorney-client privilege when hearing confessions, but the new law — which Democratic Gov. Bob Ferguson signed on Friday — revokes that protection for discussions of child abuse or neglect.

Republican Senator Thom Tillis has declared he will block President Trump’s choice for the crucial position of US Attorney for the District of Columbia, Ed Martin. His no vote will sink the nomination and if Martin isn’t confirmed in time, his replacement reportedly could be chosen by Trump-hating US District judge James Boasberg. Tillis doesn’t even have a plausible reason, telling reporters that his difference with Tillis is over the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot. Martin believes that some J6ers were unfairly over prosecuted and Tillis believes they all should have been jailed “for absolutely destroying the Capitol” — which never happened.
