Pope Francis has died aged 88, the Vatican announced today.
The Pontiff spent his final weeks in hospital with an infection that developed into pneumonia in both lungs.
The Conclave - where cardinals gather in the Sistine Chapel at the Vatican to choose a successor - will not happen for at least 15 days.
Francis just yesterday greeted Catholic faithful who had gathered to see him at St Peter's Square on Easter Sunday. He delivered his 'Urbi et Orbi' benediction from a balcony overlooking the square following mass to mark the high holiday.

I was born when Pius XII was Pope. I remember John XXIII so very well. John Paul II died on my birthday and I loved Benedict XVI so much. I will pray for Pope Francis and pray that the church I love so dearly will choose a wise and holy man to lead it in a time that I fear will be stressful to say the least.

Maybe now we can have a pope that ACTUALLY is a Christian and believes in our Lord and DOES NOT BELIEVE HE IS god. Sorry, but this communist was a true satan in our midst. What a creep.

I am Catholic, and this Pope did enormous damage to the Catholic Church. I won't miss his political lectures. Better luck next time in selecting his successor.

Didn't he just recover from pneumonia? That was quick. It was his time to go. Hope the Conclave will do a better job this time, and provide the Church with a Christian pope.

I don't believe many Catholics are in deep mourning.
Francis was not a popular Pope with Conservative Catholics.
Now the big problems in picking a new Pope. The College of Cardinals is loaded with Cardinals that Francis placed there.
Many of the ones that picked Francis are still there.
It isn't a very bright outlook for the Church.
There are no Trumps outstanding in the short list for Pope.

I pray, through some miraculous intervention of God, that we might have Cardinal Sarah of Africa be our next Pope.
Maybe we will be allowed to have the increasingly popular Traditional Latin Mass return to all the churches that choose to have it. Francis chose to have the pagan idol statue of Pachama be placed in St. Peter's Cathedral, but he forbade the Traditional Latin Mass in our churches; (something wrong with that picture)
I pray for his soul. He has met his Maker by now.

I’m a Catholic and I’m not mourning. Francis was never my pope. The College of Cardinals now has a chance to correct the massive mistake they made last time and give us a pope who will do his job, keep his nose out of politics and repair all of the damage. But i admit that I’m not optimistic about that.

His job was to oversee the Catholic church. Instead he became a Leftist political activist. He failed at both.

He never spoke out about abortion. His views about society leaned toward accepting modernism. I don’t know if that’s true entirely, because he was surrounded by msm coverage exclusively. But I didn’t see him supporting traditional families, or focusing at all on the Lord Jesus with Muslims or Buddhists or high profile leaders like Dalai Lama or presidents. He fell short and missed the mark, according to my thinking.
Who did he side with, Putin or Zelenskyy? Francis was outspoken (meddling) on every other western government. Putin actually spoke out in favor of Orthodox Churches, Zelenskyy shut them down.
