This tax day, one group is pushing for better financial literacy for kids. The American Parents Coalition is advocating for financial literacy education for kids, arguing that studies show students who go through these classes are less likely to fall into financial trouble. In a message to parents called “The Lookout,” the group points to a survey showing the majority of teenagers feel unprepared and want more financial training. “In fact, three out of four teenagers admit they don’t understand basic financial concepts,” the group said in its message, first obtained by The Center Square, and sent to parents Tuesday. “Half can’t explain

Our early twenties single and on his own son got a whapping $15 back from everything he paid in to the IRS this year. The sound of his disappointment while sad was a touch refreshing as a parent who has harped on personal fiscal responsibility and the profligate wastefulness of government spending since he old enough to understand. Welcome to the real world junior.

Every high school should have a tough financial literacy course. How debt, credit cards, unaffordable car payments etc. etc. can ruin you for life dragging around a bad credit score. I have seen it happen to several people. They just have to have that expensive new stereo system because they can buy it on payments. Not everyone has a well-to-do parent who can bail them out. When my son got his first job, he bought a brand-new car. I warned him then, but he just had to have it. Two years later, he wanted to transfer it to me so I could pick up the payments. Nope. Keep making those big payments. It was a good lesson. He is now the executive director over six banks.

Back in the Dark Ages, when I was in sixth grade, the local bank sent a worker with a bunch of blank check books, registers and deposit slips. Our math class that day was learning how to write a check, balance a checkbook, make a deposit, how to figure out how much to put aside in savings for future goals, the difference between loans, savings and checking accounts. In my high school calculus class we had one day of amortization tables, learning how much an "X" dollar loan will cost you by the time you pay it off, how much you can save by paying extra each month on a mortgage. The only thing missing was a class on budgeting. There is no reason not to require some sort of financial literacy course, other than the Dems want an uneducated populace.

The only training most teenagers today need is how to politely ask the parents for twenty bucks. Simillar to #3's experience, my brother's son asked his dad why he didn't get a refund check from the IRS when he didn't work all year and didn't file a return. They need to teach both a financial class and a special ed version.

When police raided a factory in Georgia, they found dozens of Chinese nationals being kept in near slave-like conditions, and authorities say they were pressed into service by a forced labor trafficking ring. Last month, agents from several agencies raided Wellmade Industries in Cartersville, Georgia, 40 miles north of Atlanta, and what they found shocked them, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Federal officials said that around 60 Chinese nationals were being held in tiny rooms and forced to work long hours in the flooring manufacturing plant. The exploited workers at Wellmade are just a few of the many exploited workers the Trump administration has rooted out

Last week, Rep. Brandon Gill questioned former Baltimore law enforcement veteran Major Neill Franklin about the safety of Baltimore City. This was part of the House Judiciary Committee’s investigation into sanctuary jurisdictions. In his line of questioning, the freshman representative asked Franklin outright if Baltimore was a “safe city.” Any person with common sense would have replied to that question with a resounding “No,” but not Franklin—he said “Yes.” The Texas Republican then laid out the crime statistics of Baltimore to Franklin, The homicide rate in Baltimore is about five times the national average. "Moreover, Michigan's mandate for implicit bias training came from an unelected agency rather than the legislature, sidestepping any public debate on the issue," the attorney added.
