The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) announced Monday that some $4.7 trillion in payments from the Treasury Department were missing a critical tracking code which made tracing the transactions “almost impossible.”
The transactions were reportedly missing the Treasury Account Symbol, or TAS, an identification code which links a Treasury payment to a budget line item, according to DOGE, which described the use of such code as a “standard financial process.”
“In the Federal Government, the TAS field was optional for ~$4.7 Trillion in payments and was often left blank, making traceability almost impossible,” read an X post from DOGE.

Just STOP sending the money out. SOMEONE will notice and PROBABLY call to complain.
The IRS wants to know where every penny goes especially if I make a $601 charge somewhere but, if I want to know how they spend OUR tax dollars it is a CONSTITUTIONAL CRISIS.

DOGE is certainly finding billions of taxpayers dollars missing, and I for one, would like to see some specific names attached to the reports of the responsible parties involved. SOMEONE is giving the fraud the Okay sign.

I've said a number of times over the years, that I believed these crooked bureaucrats were running the Treasury printing presses at will to fill their own pockets. Turns out I was right.
Oh, they didn't do it directly, picking up stacks of crisp cash on the loading dock, but the results were the same.

They didn't seem to have a problem tracing every cell phone at the J6 event, following school board members, monitoring people praying at abortion clinics, raiding Trumps residence... so maybe these same people will help to find 4.7 trillion $$$???

I bet behind incompetence it is loaded with fraud. Please tell me why so many people are up in arms about the DOGE audit? The government is like the school systems in the U.S. The school boards and government keep throwing $$ at the bad system and the outcome is still the same....failing. The U.S. government started lowering their standards for YEARS. Someone or many need to take responsibility for this mess.

And no one on the Left thinks that the code being missing wasn't deliberate? This deserves a DEEP DIVE to find exactly who got these payments and why. We need NAMES.
Payments this large probably went electronically to an account and the account should be identifiable with a court order. We don't need everyone identified to start, just enough to get an idea who got the money. If that stinks, we need to follow it to the end for all the payments. How long has this been going on?
Can you image keeping your personal records like this? Or a business doing it? The government would rip us apart for tax fraud.

It gets worse with each passing day. I think hitlery's home server had a lot of helpful information. It was probably what she was building to keep evil people under her thumb.
The American people are about to erupt big time over this, while the left has the nerve to start forming protests. Who's paying for the protests now? Obviously, some of our money is well stashed to fund their fight against transparency efforts.

Astronomical. It appears that a person who earned the personal finances merit badge is overqualified to work at a federal government accounting job.

Seems to me that every federal employee who had any part of working in a system designed to be untraceable, without these codes, should be fired with cause today. The leadership should be arrested for mishandling tax dollars and then try to get them to flip on who gave them the orders. I suspect it will all lead back to the see eye a. THAT is the agency that needs to be broken into a thousand pieces (even more than the education department).

It's no wonder the deep state bureaucracy is fighting so hard to hide their records from DOGE. Everett Dirksen's comment about a billion here, a billion there adding up to real money needs to be updated to trillions. Other posters are correct in saying that real prison time needs to happen to those thieves. We can only hope that the new sheriff is rattling the handcuffs at this moment.

When are we going to start seeing lots of people being arrested and in holding cells waiting arraignment? Looks like the white collar crime syndrome is alive and well. I think the 87,000 IRS gestapo are need in the DOJ let the military deal with the border.

The TSA code wasn’t made optional accidentally. That’s a basic in any financial system user interface. This was an open invitation to fraud and embezzlement. And these are the people liberals want us to believe are totally trustworthy while Musk’s team is busy stealing SSN’s. This is utterly stunning. How much longer will the Democrats continue to defend this? They’re melting like the bad witch in Wizard of Oz.

I witnessed this in my employment at a defense company. Lack of proper training. The company "saved" on training - "our employees are the best and they will figure it out"
Late 90s the company instituted a a new electronic business system which required certain fields to be filled before being proceeding to the next page. Poor training meant many employees didn't know what to enter so it led to jibberish.I audited a process and found a lot of 12345, abcde, a few "colorful" (like thisux) and other meaningless entries.

Pretty soon, we'll be talking about "real money."
And by that, I mean that if the govt just writes checks without any backing by a tangible commodity, it's not actually "real money," right?

What Trump or Musk need to do is offer a reward/s to those who figure out where most of that money went to and who authorized it. Say 5 or 10% of what is found.

Some of the payments went here - - some went there - - some went somewhere else. What's the diff? It's only a handful of trillions of dollars.
Do we really need to know who's getting the money?

I don't understand why the payments are untraceable. The payee's name is on the check and I am sure they have a list of those people in their Accounts Payable Database.

As an afterthought, where is the GAO on this? They are supposed to audit the government's books and since they report to Congress there is probably it is a good place to start asking why they have been derelict in their duties.

That is $4.7 milllion.....MILLIONS. So, if you had a million dollars going out every minute, it would take 4.7 million minutes to send out this much, and that is just under two years of 24/7 sending out a million dollars every minute.
Just to get a tiny bit of a feel for the unaccounted for trillions.
A trillion is a million millions.
$4,700,000,000,000 just 'poofed' out to who knows where?
HUNT IT DOWN, get it back.

Start linking this type of incompetence to how it impacts people's lives.
What better programs that could actually help make a difference.
How it would benefit people since they don't likely need to pay as much in taxes and fees after all.
Now you know why they needed to "get Trump" back in 2016 since he simply wanted to actually fix problems.

Disgusting behavior! We have unlawful/spiteful people in our government agencies who are getting rich at the taxpayers expense. We need to eliminate our debt and these government criminals need to step down and/or go to jail. Enough is enough. This is most likely just the tip of the iceberg. These comments are mild compared to some.

there is help-10- mr bukele in el salvador has lovely accomodations
i met a lady who went to school to do this sort of coding. she opined it's more of a scam than a useful exercise.
by the time you get through the bugs, learn, and apply all the codes as instructed, they change it.
you're back in school. ppl above and around you are changing, negating, the work you did, and codes you used.
