An active member of the Army’s elite Special Forces shot himself in the head just before the explosion at the Trump Las Vegas hotel — but the FBI and local cops still do not know why he did it, authorities revealed on Thursday.
Matthew Livelsberger, 37, was found inside the vehicle with a “self-inflicted gunshot wound” to the head, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Sheriff Kevin McMahill told reporters.
McMahill added that a high-powered .50-caliber Desert Eagle handgun was found at Livelsberger’s. His body was so badly burned, it was unrecognizable, authorities said.

Sheriff Kevin McMahill of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department told reporters that investigators were looking into any possible connections to the deadly attack in New Orleans earlier Wednesday but had not yet discovered any. The driver of the Cybertruck pulled into the valet area of the hotel and the vehicle exploded, according to an official. The driver was killed and, so far, is the only fatality from the incident. Seven bystanders had minor injuries, authorities said.
Investigators are searching for additional suspects connected to the New Orleans terror attack that left at least ten dead and 35 more injured in the early hours of New Year’s Day, the FBI announced Wednesday afternoon.
The deceased suspect who carried out the fatal truck-ramming attack has been identified as 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar.
“We do not believe that Jabbar was solely responsible,” Alethea Duncan, New Orleans FBI assistant special agent in charge, told reporters. “We are aggressively running down every lead, including those of his known associates.”
