The Most Politically Absurd Things Americans

Let’s face it, there was more than enough stupid to go around this year. If 2024 taught us anything, it’s that there is no bottom in matters of the politically absurd. Remember, somebody thought it was a good idea for Joe Biden to debate Donald Trump. Fani Willis thought her deadbeat paramour Nathan Wade was worth every dime. And Kristi Noem believed her Old Yeller moment would be endearing. But then again someone in the Trump transition team thought the dog-killing South Dakota governor and close personal friend of Corey Lewandowski would make a fine Homeland Security secretary, so clearly there’s no accounting for taste.

Norm probably did the right thing. Look at Biden’s untrained attack German Shepards. How many times does a dog bite a person before it gets put down. For goodness sake Biden won’t even allow baby killing rapists and miscreants of the worst kind to be executed.

I once had a dog that bit a lady , and i put it down, Biting dogs are only good as attack dogs, they aren't needed around the house.

Good list but, as with the other posters, I think that Republicans acting like losers includes denigrating Noem for the doggie disposal. When it comes to defense, knowing you've placed a person who would personally deliver the bullet is a plus period exclamation point.

The South Dakota Governor should have known that city people have a view of animals and the natural world that is straight out of Disney. This latest societal fad is to infantilize dogs and treat them like human toddlers. On a farm or ranch a dog serves utilitarian purposes. If it is incapable of this for some reason most ranchers will get rid of it. The most human method is shooting.

Having owned several dogs over the years in a semi-rural setting, I agree with #4. Yes, some dogs are more lovable than others. And a few are prone to biting. I wince every time I hear a media person refer to mature canines as "pups."

My vote for most absurd is someone thinking the Biden administration was anything but a treasonous dumpster fire. It was the Potato-Salad Regime. Joetato on top of word salad Kammie.

"Dear Bob, Nice fake news network you have there. It would be a shame if anything were to happen to it. Love, Brendan." That isn't quite what incoming FCC chair Brendan Carr wrote to Disney CEO Bob Iger this week, but it was pretty dang close. Carr has served on the Federal Communications Commission since 2017 and is President-elect Donald Trump's choice to serve as chairman next year. And he's taking no gruff from Disney-owned ABC News, which just agreed to pay $15 million in damages (and another million in legal fees) for defaming Trump during a "This Week" segment earlier this year.

Six months ago, I was asked my opinion of the Silicon Valley alignment with MAGA. I said at the time I thought it would last around 18 months and finally climax with a large fracture in the political movement around 2026. I had no idea at the time, the group of technocrats would begin publicly advocating for replacing American workers before Trump took office. For the past several days I have watched Vivek Ramaswamy, David Sacks, Elon Musk and his big tech influencers debating with their followers about the importance for them to continue expanding H-1b visas for foreign tech workers.

It's long been known, at least through basic intuition, that U.S. government officials went to great lengths to cover up the origins of the COVID-19 virus. Former NIAID Director Anthony Fauci infamously spent years publicly deflecting blame from China. Emails would later emerge showing Wuhan Institute of Virology funder Peter Daszak had emailed Fauci to thank him for dismissing the lab leak theory. If you aren't familiar with the entire saga, which is long and winding, be sure to check out Scott Hounsell's extensive reporting on the matter. The level of corruption will blow your mind.

Bronx Rep. Ritchie Torres got it 100% right this month when he slammed progressives for their “perversion of compassion” in allowing vagrants to haunt our transit hubs and streets. Particularly those who are mentally ill and in need of help. They make life miserable — and dangerous — for everyone. Including themselves. Progressives think they’re being kind, considerate, compassionate to these troubled people. Civil libertarians think they’re protecting their freedoms. Many of them truly believe they’re doing the moral thing by letting these people fester. They’re horribly wrong, It’s not compassionate to let to someone sleep on the floor of Penn Station or to permit violent ones to attack innocent people.

The vicious murder of a woman via immolation on the F train — allegedly by an illegal migrant — has brought New York’s total subway murders to match 2022’s 25-year high, with 10 for the year so far. That’s terrifying, but seemingly the new normal. So how does our fearless leader in Albany, Gov. Hochul, react?Well, on Sunday — the very day of the horrific arson-murder — she opted to brag about her supposed progress in reducing subway crime. “In March, I took action to make our subways safer for the millions of people who take the trains each day,” she tweeted. Now, “crime is going down, and ridership is going up.”

As one of his final acts as president, Joe Biden is commuting the death sentences of 37 of the federal government’s 40 death row inmates, giving them life sentences instead. These 37 men include some of the most violent killers in the United States. In 2019, Brandon Council was sentenced to death for murdering 59-year-old Donna Major and 36-year-old Katie Skeen in 2017 during a South Carolina bank robbery. Skeen’s mother, Betty Richardson Davis, told local media that Biden commuting Council’s sentence for murdering her daughter “is an injustice.” Major’s husband, Daniel Major, similarly blasted Biden for the move.

According to Walter Russell Mead’s recent analysis, “One way to read Trump’s second victory in three elections is that the movement for a post-American America with a successor ideology and post-Judeo Christian cultural and ethical foundation aimed at fundamentally changing American society has reached its sell-by date.” Do not hold your breath. The demise of “Woke” has been greatly exaggerated. The unfortunate truth is that the Woke Era, under which the great mass of Americans has been harassed since the reelection of Barack Obama, is merely the latest spasm of the puritanism that has periodically plagued the body politic since the English Civil War.

Turkish media dropped a bombshell report on Saturday that Asma al-Assad, 49, was fed up with her asylum in Russia and wanted to build a new life in London. The report claimed she filed for divorce just two weeks after her family fled Syria ahead of a rebel advance into Damascus. The report suggested Asma was fed up with Russian restrictions that confine her and her three children to the city of Moscow, and that she wanted access to top-quality treatment as she fights leukemia.

An unexpected development following President-elect Trump’s electoral victory last month is the uncharacteristic calm from the normally fire-breathing Democrats who got trounced by the man they swore was Hitler incarnate. Amazon — founded by Jeff Bezos — and billionaire Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta just donated $1 million each for Trump to have an inauguration party and … nothing. Not a sound from scores of workers at either company who would typically resign, write open letters denouncing their employer, or otherwise whine anonymously to the New York Times or Bezos’ own newspaper, the Washington Post. That’s pretty much been the case nationwide, too.

The United States Postal Service is bleeding red ink. America’s mail carrier lost an astounding $9.5 billion in fiscal 2024 and expects to lose an additional $60 billion to $70 billion by 2030. It certainly hasn’t helped that the agency is spending $9.6 billion on a vehicle procurement plan that includes 66,000 electric vehicles. These vehicles are two to three times more expensive than their conventional counterparts, but that has somehow not deterred the USPS. Agency leadership has even convinced Congress to spend $3 billion of taxpayer money on this nonsensical “deal.”

California has made a big bet on a technology to meet its self-imposed green energy target. It could work. Maybe. Might happen. If the real world matches the optimism. But there are challenging hurdles ahead. One, the concept is untried on an industrial scale. Floating offshore wind turbines, which California believes will provide a full quarter of the state’s electric power by 2045, “is largely underdeveloped in the United States,” host Kevin Sliman says in an interview with two Penn State University Institute of Energy and the Environment professors. “There’s a few kind of like one-off test turbines that are typically much smaller than what you would do on a fixed platform,”

New York Governor Kathy Hochul, a Democrat, signed legislation this week that requires major fossil fuel companies to contribute fees to support New York's climate change mitigation efforts. Under the new law, companies with significant greenhouse gas emissions will be required to contribute to a state fund dedicated to infrastructure projects aimed at mitigating future climate change damage and repairing existing impacts. The legislation, approved earlier this year, compels major oil and gas companies to help cover the costs of recovery after extreme weather events. The funds will also support resilience projects, including coastal wetland restoration and upgrades to critical
