Electric vehicles: the dogs don't like it

There’s a famous story in American marketing circles about a pet food company that spent a fortune on a new dog food, but were horrified to find sales tanking. They’d done everything right! What could possibly have gone wrong? As the story goes, a high-priced consultant was brought in. His verdict? “The dogs don’t like it.” A similar story about electric vehicles (EVs) will probably one day be taught in business schools. For years, and particularly during the Mummified Meat Puppet Administration (MMPA) we’ve been told EVs are the future, [snip]Unfortunately for the MMPA, the dogs don’t like it:

Comments:

EVs go the way of Pet Rocks. ( not to be confused with the one in the White House)

I heard that dog food story some 50 years ago by a motivational speaker brought in by my employer at the time. I think of it often when I see the poor ev sales (and salesmen).

Right now it's a virtue-signalling fad. The acid test will be seeing how many repeat buyers there are. No one in their right mind would buy a used one. Sooner or later the economics and perpetual monthly payment may change the minds of some.

2, buying a used one is sketchy. You'd definitely need to see the battery's max charge, the same as you'd want to see the miles on any car. The higher the charge the better the car has been taken care of. There's a director correlation. The model Y is a top selling vehicle. It is factually incorrect to say no one wants one. I'm not sure what the perpetual monthly payment is. I pay monthly for their version of a music service which is rebranded Spotify. I pay more for XM radio on my other car every month. The car works just fine without Spotify. Once again, mid range and top tier EV's are fast, require less maintenance, have shorter range, longer fueling times, and carry as much or more than same sized gas cars. The problems with EV are: 1) range is shorter than gas cars on all but the most expensive EV 2) recharge time is longer than fuel time (but not days like some confused people have said) 3) they are a problem for emergency services in wrecks as the battery can catch fire and go for days unless handled in a specific way. 4) government mandates destroy industries and choice All 3 of the technical problems will go away when they switch to solid state batteries. Toyota has solid state batteries in the lab and on test cars. I figure it's about 5 years from the lab to the road. The fourth problem will go away on its own when either Trump cancels this nonsense or reality hits home and every state trying to enforce mandates finds an all EV economy doesn't work.

It's not a matter of "like". The "insurmountable problems" endemic to EVs make them UNUSABLE in many situations. A 10 hour trip becomes a 2 day trip with extra hotel and food costs and LONG waits for recharging. Add the return trip and it is very costly in time and money. The economics are ghastly. More expensive to buy, more expensive to insure. More maintenance problems. God help you if you are in an accident. There is a fair chance that the car will be totaled due to battery uncertainties, if the battery doesn't catch fire and burn the car up. To top it off, the REAL costs to manufacture and power an EV are environmentally NOT a good deal. To create the batteries, enormous amounts of digging, with fossil fuel propelled heavy equipment must be done to secure the rare earths for the batteries. Coal or Oil or Natural Gas produced recharging electricity is NOT pollution free. Studies that look carefully at all factors are saying that the "pollution"/energy savings are a wash between EVs and ICE vehicles. The ONLY benefit for EVs is the FEELZ for the Leftists and the votes that EV centric policy buys for the dems.

#4: True, the dogs didn't like it, but if you're lucky enough to have one, and being an ICE vehicle, you can still put gas in it and drive it anywhere.

6, a 10 hour trip is a 10.5 hour trip in a Tesla. It takes about 30 minutes to go from near empty to 80% at most chargers. I am fact based. Mandates are bad. So is misinformation of any sort from anyone.

#5, I am glad you enjoy your Tesla. I fully agree with you about mandates. The other issue, especially in your state, are governments hell-bent on removing proven power generation facilities. Hard to charge 30 million EVs with a decimated grid. It is probably no stretch to assume you are on the upper end of the wealth bell curve. Most of us can't or won't even think about any kind of vehicle in the EV price point. And when said EV needs overhaul, it is essentially total loss...on to the next one with its mammoth monthly payment.

10, my model 3 was 48k. That's not a vehicle that requires vast wealth to purchase. What's a pickup truck cost? Way more than that. SUV? More. Cross over? Same or higher. Sports car? More. It's not a particularly expensive car these days. Electricity costs less than gas on a per mile basis. Btw, I'm in Florida now but there's no way to change my name.

My colleague Becca Lower reported on the earthquake in the New York/New Jersey area earlier, and there was some pretty big shaking for an area that isn't used to it. My family members who live not far from the epicenter said that they really felt the rolling, which for people in New Jersey is very unusual. They're still having some aftershocks, but as Becca explained, no one was seriously hurt and there was no significant damage. I wanted to note some of the funny and crazy takes from the day, since people weren't used to the experience of having an earthquake that they actually felt.

One word: Insanity. Twelve words: How does this absurd "woke" decision help minorities, most importantly, minority children? The insanity of "woke" not only continues; it continues to metastasize and attempt to sweep under the rug even the most vile acts committed against society. In this case, child abuse and child neglect. A Boston, Massachusetts, hospital announced on Tuesday that after finding black mothers were more likely to be reported to authorities for child abuse and neglect if a toxicology report came back positive, it would take steps to reevaluate its process to avoid perpetuating "structural racism." I'm sick to death of that term (excuse), are you? Let's continue.

This incident didn’t occur in Anacostia—this happened in Springfield, Virginia. One of the wealthiest counties in the country saw a chaotic “street takeover” by hooligans who tried to rip a police officer from her vehicle. The site of the mayhem was on Electronic Drive, where an army of miscreants were recklessly driving, doing doughnuts around 3 AM on Sunday. The dashcam shows how these thugs surrounded the officer’s car, with attempts made to open the doors of the cruiser. Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis believes his department “narrowly escaped a line-of-duty death scenario” (via WTOP):

The Biden administration has announced in recent weeks new stringent emissions requirements for virtually the entire American transportation system. The Environmental Protection Agency will mandate by the year 2035 that virtually every car made and sold in America must be an EV. No more gas cars. The New York Times comically declared that motorists don't have to worry because this "is not a ban on gasoline-powered vehicles." Hollywood studio Paramount Global has been downgraded to junk status by S&P, which cited the ongoing plunge in cable TV subscriptions as the reason for the credit rating change. Paramount — which owns numerous linear TV properties including CBS, Nickelodeon, MTV, BET, and Comedy Central — is facing a dire economic forecast that is shared by other legacy studios. American households continue to cut the cords by the millions, depriving studios of lucrative carriage fees. At the same time, TV advertising revenue is plunging due to weak consumer sentiment tied to historic levels of inflation brought about by the Biden administration.

On the Christian calendar, this Sunday is Easter, a revered Holy Day for Christians celebrating the resurrection of their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ when his tomb was found empty, three days after his execution by crucifixion commanded by the Roman Empire. Even in secular society, the day is celebrated with colored eggs and baskets filled with strange plastic grass and bunny-shaped chocolate confections, and the iconic, American candy gems known as jellybeans. Over the past few years the term "Deaths of Despair" has become all too common. It's not a new term; after the fall of the Soviet Union, the already poor state of Russians' health deteriorated and lifespans declined. The same effect has been seen in places where social cohesion and support structures deteriorated for some reason or another. And, not that many people know it, it was known in public health circles (before they conveniently forgot) that excessive "Non-Pharmaceutical Interventions" (NPIs) to address a public health crisis caused serious health problems that often were worse than the disease.
