LSU's women's basketball team sparked outrage prior to their game against Iowa on Monday night after leaving the court before the American national anthem was played. The LSU Tigers were beaten 94-87 by the Iowa Hawkeyes in Albany, where the latter's star player Caitlin Clark put on a 41-point masterclass to help her team advance to the Final Four of this year's NCAA tournament. Yet earlier in the evening, footage on social media appeared to show that LSU players skipped the national anthem before it played out at Times Union Center. Iowa stars, meanwhile, stood hand-in-hand while taking in the Star-Spangled Banner

An LA Times writer calls them "dirty debutantes" and it's deemed a racist remark (10 of 12 on the team are black). The coach (who has a serious ego problem) goes nuts, the writer offers a pukening apology, and the team disappears for the National Anthem that evening - but it wasn't intentional. Caitlin Clark has turned women's basketball upside down this year and no one knows how to handle it. A white-girl record setter? That's racist, too, ya know.

I saw that game at the house of a friend of mine yesterday. Caitlin Clark showcase that she is more than a scoring machine but a great passer and floor leader. LSU was good but this time they couldn't contain Clark and she was able to beat the double teams with great help. The whole leaving the court before the National Anthem was played alone made me glad that they lost. Congratulations to the Hawkeyes and best of luck going forward.

Over the next few years, for every dollar WNBA players receive in salary, they are going to owe at least 25 cents to Caitlin Clark.

A very prescient post, #22, especially if you have not been watching basketball over the last several decades. The thug ball, as I've called it for at least three decades is exactly what turned me away from the game. The NBA was the first to go down the tubes with the thuggish play in the mid to late 80s, and refs not calling near as many fouls because of it. They didn't have enough players to finish a game if they called all the fouls. Then college basketball started circling the drain a decade or so ago. Anyone notice the increase in players wearing head gear for protection? It reminds me of a Rodney Dangerfield quip, "I went to a boxing match the other evening, and a hockey game broke out!" I never really was a fan of women's basketball, but the same behavior as above is taking hold there too. IMO, disrespecting the National Anthem is also part of it.

This drastic measure comes in the wake of a detected outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI). The outbreak has led to the culling of approximately 1.6 million laying hens and 337,000 pullets. This action represents about 3.6% of Cal-Maine Foods’ total flock as of early March 2024, marking a significant loss for the company and the egg industry as a whole.
