It's George Washington's Birthday

“First in war, first in peace and first in the hearts of his countrymen. He was second to none in the humble and endearing scenes of private life; pious, just, humane, temperate and sincere; uniform, dignified and commanding, his example was as edifying to all around him, as were the effects of that example lasting. “To his equals he was condescending; to his inferiors kind; and to the dear object of his affections exemplarily tender: Correct throughout, vice shuddered in his presence, and virtue always felt his fostering hand; the purity of his private character gave effulgence to his public virtues.”

"Excessive partiality for one foreign nation and excessive dislike of another cause those whom they actuate to see danger only on one side, and serve to veil and even second the arts of influence on the other. Real patriots who may resist the intrigues of the favorite are liable to become suspected and odious, while its tools and dupes usurp the applause and confidence of the people, to surrender their interests. The great rule of conduct for us in regard to foreign nations is in extending our commercial relations, to have with them as little political connection as possible. So far as we have already formed engagements, let them be fulfilled with perfect good faith. Here let us stop. Europe has a set of primary interests which to us have none; or a very remote relation. Hence she must be engaged in frequent controversies, the causes of which are essentially foreign to our concerns. Hence, therefore, it must be unwise in us to implicate ourselves by artificial ties in the ordinary vicissitudes of her politics, or the ordinary combinations and collisions of her friendships or enmities."

Thank you for this. I am so tired of hearing about Presidents' Day. The holiday is Washington's birthday. Unfortunately, a bad President--Lyndon Johnson--moved Washington's birthday from 2/22 to the third Monday in February. But the holiday is still Washington's birthday. Washington is our greatest President and any survey that says otherwise should be thrown out.

A good article. But, Lincoln's birthday is Feb. 12. Washington's birthday is Feb. 22. Neither were Federal holidays. In some states, Washington's birthday was a holiday. Some states had Washington and Lincoln as holidays. Some states alternated. LBJ pushed with others to have another federal holiday and followed the push to make federal holidays on Monday.

No it isn't. George Washington's Birthday is 22 February, not the third Monday in February. That's Presidents' Day. It's supposed to honor all presidents. Not all presidents should be honored. Most were okay, but no great shakes. Having this blanket day for them is like all those participation awards they give school kids so they will have high "self-esteem."

George Washingtons Birthday is February 22, 1732. So much for the research. The story about .picking his best marksman and missing 4 times is a stretch. Their was about 700 Indians from 10 tribes at the Defeat of Gen Braddock. The man (Metis) that brought those tribes to support the approximate 200 French soldiers and fur traders, the French Superintendent of Indians was Charles Michael de Langlade. The Indians did a flanking movement and came at the British from the sides which happen to be 15 feet above them on a ridge. In the Fog of War and Confusion of the battle even the British, and the Americans were shooting themselves in the smoke amongst the forest. The French was outnumbered 2 to 3 to one and the British was at advantage with their artillery. After the first shot or two, the ambush in the forest the artillery was kaput. As more British troops were brought up they were enveloped in the battle and being shoot by there own troops. The ambush took out 2/3's of the officers. The battle lasted 3 hours. Washington did get two horses shot out from under him and 4 bullet holes in his closes. General Braddock got one fatal shot and 4 horses shot out from him. What Washington did was save the remaining forces of the British and was considered a Hero for it. It made Washington an experienced Leader in Battle which came handy latter.

Don Surber's ancestor, Jacob Surber, was a Revolutionary War spy. He rode through the wilds of what is now West Virginia and Kentucky, looking for the British army to attack from the west. That was top secret intelligence that Jacob Surber reported directly to General Washington. Surber's stealth service was not rewarded with a pension! When Surber applied for a pension, the newly formed USA denied it, because Surber was not listed on the rolls of any military unit.

Donald Trump won the presidency in 2016 without needing to dig up dirt on Hillary because the FBI already did that with the email scandal. But he failed to dig up dirt on Biden in 2020. The open secret in DC was Biden was easily bought. Everyone knew — except Trump. Now as he faces lawfare — the act of tying a man up in court to bleed him dry from legal fees — Trump apparently has learned to dig up dirt on at least one of his persecutors: Fani Willis the George Soros district attorney in Atlanta who threw her weight and indicted President Trump and associates,

House Republicans were shocked by some of the recent high-profile retirements announced by their colleagues, which have included powerful committee chairs and rising stars inside the GOP. But given the miserable state of affairs inside the House right now, they also weren’t exactly surprised. “They’ve signed up to do serious things. And we’re not doing serious things,” said Rep. Ken Buck of Colorado, a conservative who is retiring after bucking his party on several key issues. Rep. Don Bacon of Nebraska, a moderate who represents a key swing seat, pointed to his party’s struggle to govern as driving the departures.

From the moment that Democrat Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis abruptly hurled herself into the court hearing on Thursday, it was obvious what she was there to do. And it’s hard to even blame her because it’s the only option she has left. Before she was even asked to appear — before it was even clear she would be required to testify in the hearing about her relationship with Nathan Wade that could zero out her criminal case against Donald Trump — Willis entered the scene in a painfully bright pink dress and told the court she was ready for her close up.
