Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has been hospitalized since Jan. 1 for complications following a surgery to treat prostate cancer, officials at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center said Tuesday.
The news of Austin's treatment and condition came after a tortious week during which Austin was hospitalized, but the Pentagon refused to say why. Austin underwent the initial prostate cancer surgery on Dec. 25, during which he was under general anesthesia, according to doctors from Walter Reed.
On Jan. 1, Austin experienced complications from the surgery including nausea and severe abdominal, hip and leg pain, which was later identified as a urinary tract infection. On Jan. 2, he was

Have sympathy for anyone with that medical problem. But, if no one noticed he wasn't there why is he needed? Too many big salaried employees doing next to nothing.

He was treated for prostate cancer...
Treated...how?
Radiation?
Surgery to remove?

I’ll bet he, uh, self medicated and the effects lasted more than 4 hours…if you get my gist.

It was initially reported that he was in the hospital for ‘elective’ surgery. I would hardly call this ‘elective’.

Did the affirmative action SecDef have an affirmative action medical team? Getting infections these days is pretty incompetent medical care.

Austin's medical condition is his private business. That's not what all the controversy has been about.

So this fat 70 year old can’t get it up. Is that what they were trying to hide? They lie about their lies. The clown car may not make it till November.

A cancer diagnosis means Austin cannot be criticized for abandoning his job and not informing anyone. If you dare say a negative word about Austin, expect to be branded as mean spirited and racist.

Seems like his condition was worse than they wanted to disclose. Being treated for prostate cancer is more than a simple 'elective procedure'. They had to drain abdominal fluids in his stomach via a tube in his nose.

Another example of the best medical care money can buy! Sounds like the surgeons should have used more soap before operating!

If someone has lied to you every time they ever said anything, safe bet they are lying now. I'll wait for the conspiracy theorists. They have a better track record.

They should get their lies straight from the start.

Not sure, #25, that HIPPA includes someone in Austin's "position."
I am guessing urosepsis, very serious, potentially deadly.
Hope he recovers and is ready to go back to work in time, say, 11 months, to clean out his locker in 2025

I was diagnosed with an agessive form of prostate cancer in 2015 courtesy of Agent Orange exposure in Vietnam. I was fortunate to have the best advice from an eminent urologist who saw my labs and Gleason score. He told me get your prostate removed now; As a military retiree I had Medicare and Tricare for life. I had the option to use a civilian doctor . I found one that he had done 500+ DaVinci Robotic Surgeries. One and done with a civilian MD and no complications in 2015. Cancer free still in 2024. I think the DECDEF had the same DaVinci surgery with the military medicine with a very different result. Speaks volumes about civilian mediicine compared to military medicine.

I don't wish cancer on my worst enemy. If this is the case with our "esteemed" Defense Secretary I wish him a speedy recovery. However, everyone in the FJB regime lies so much that I'm sure that there's more to this story. For one I though the doctors at Walter Reed/Bethesda Worldwide Regional Medical Center (or whatever it's now called) were the best of the best. Getting severe infections after big medical procedures seems like Dr Vinnie Bombots was in charge of Austin's care. Like I said I'm sure we aren't getting the actual facts here.
