Higher Education: DEI and Cargo Cultism

We live in a world of hope.

Nobody says it better than Clarice, nobody. Doctor Thomas Sowell is an example of what an exceptional black man can become but a rare exception and he is not afraid to cite the problems within the black race in his many books. A college education is fine if you need to be able to quote Shakespeare on where a wasp wears its sting or what Thoreau though of the leaves in Maine but we now live in a world that requires targeted, not "well-rounded" education. My practice of selecting applicable college courses such as business and IT to enhance my career and taking them at smaller schools where the business professor was more likely to also serve as the vice president of a local bank and not some bearded besandaled guy who has spent his entire life in the ivory tower and wouldn't know how to run a donut shop. I have seen the example of wrong-thinking up close where a black classmate who was in school on a free ride for his basketball skills refused the offer of a Saturday tutoring session from the professor. He was failing the class and he said that he could not miss basketball practice on that day. DEI and affirmative action in academia are mind-numbing failures. Dumbing down classes and inflating grades not only cheats the affected students, it cheats all students. It will eventually cheat somebody who is lying on the operating table and has been cut open by an incompetent doctor or is flying on an Airbus over the Atlantic being driven by a pilot who failed math and doesn't know his latitude from his longitude.

It does seem, in a lot of our institutions, that the cream no longer rises to the top.

There are too many colleges and universities in this country (per capita), compared to other developed nations, especially in Europe. The European method for determining who gets a "rare" university slot is the national placement exam administered during in high school, like our ACT/SAT, without the "cultural/racial" considerations applied. For those who don't "make the grade," there are vocational schools to choose from. Europe came out of WWII with a need to ensure all people had access to professions AND vocations. It takes years of classroom training to become a state certified plumber, electrician, house painter, etc. Today we have totally useless, unqualified, affirmative action winners" sitting on our judicial benches, commanding among our nation's military, or wielding scalpels in operating rooms, all because demand for excellence through high-standards has been compromised in order to achieve otherwise illegal "race quotas."

I witnessed this happening a long time ago in Riverside County, CA, Dept of Public Soc Services. When I started working there in 1995, promotions to supervisor and management positions were merit based for the most part. One had to be very good at their job, knowlegable withing their field and have a solid grasp of policy, then interview well in order to be promoted to management. Then around 1998 and increasing every year, merit based gave way to diversity based promotions. When I left in 2013 I heard it had continued apace until all management was leftist black, brown, female, or gay. The white male had been eliminated from the profession unless that white male was either cucked or gay. Merit no longer mattered and had been pushed away in favor of the facade. Supervisors and managers had become a priveleged club and they did not tolerate 'diversity' from the narrative of leftist ideas.

FTA: The underlying idea is that if you give everyone a college diploma, they will reap the benefits of what used to take high-level natural talents and hard work. The effect of DEI, or DIE, has been to corrupt all of US. Promotions require a DEI statement and we all lie.
