Rush has been around since the early 'Seventies, and is one of the most loved hard rock bands. I didn't know about Geddy Lee's Jewish origins, and look forward to reading his autobiography. Several decades ago, I jokingly took to calling Lee "Witch Man" (Which Man?) but he, guitarist Alex Lifson, and the late drummer Neil Peart have been the real deal for along time. Rush is a fantastic band. FTA: "Corroborating her [Lee's mother's] stories with those from other family members and third-party research, Lee’s writing should be mandatory reading for all who today are unwilling or unable to grasp the underlying horrors of the Israel-Hamas War and antisemitism’s obscene hideousness." Geddy has always been on the right side of this war. God bless Rush.

Rush is an interesting band. For starters, it is rare that the drummer is the main lyricist. And it is rarer that the main lyricist be willing to abandon the status quo to offer up thought provoking forays into so many existential curiosities. You may not agree with what they said but nobody can argue that Rush is anything other than a thoughtful and genuine musical/lyrical experience.

1, Interesting tidbit. Geddy's real name is Gary, but his mother's thick accent made it sound like 'Geddy'. His childhood friends made that stick.

Thanks for posting. Looking forward to what will be a fascinating read. On one of the music channel biographies, Geddy talked about the then-high school band's first gig at a weekend dance in the basement of a local church. Said that no one was dancing, though - everyone just stood around the back of the room trying to figure out what it was they were listeing to(!).

I've found the quickest way to incur personal attacks is to criticize this band's music and especially Geddy's singing. Now, I do like ONE of their songs and it's the only one I've ever found where he doesn't sing. So, have it!

Red Barchetta. Lots of car songs in the genre, but leave it to Rush to produce on that’s deep.

On Friday, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine, who claims to be a Republican, signed an executive order banning transgender surgeries for children under the age of 18 at any Ohio hospital or ambulatory facility. That's good, right? Wrong. The order comes a week after the governor vetoed sub-HB 68, a bill that not only would have banned transgender surgeries on children, but also would have outlawed chemical castration, puberty blockers, and men participating in women's sports. It also included a provision that would allow recourse for women harmed by men participating in their sports. When he vetoed the SAFE Act, DeWine parroted left-wing trans activists, claiming, without evidence,

With the Christmas season ending and radio stations returning to their regular selection of music, one song I most certainly will not miss is that painful British tune “Do They Know It’s Christmas.” Written nearly 40 years ago by a group of British musicians to raise money for victims of Ethiopia’s famine, the song is best remembered as the leading prompt for millions worldwide to change the station — a truly terrible, annoying, sanctimonious song despite its noble intentions and purported support for a worthy cause. Resulting mostly from the tribal chaos of the country’s decade-long civil war, the Ethiopian famine affected roughly 8 million people. What saved the nation

DEI Can Only Exist in a Noncompetitive Environment 10 replies

Harvard President Claudine Gay’s recent testimony before the U.S. Congress and subsequent exposure of her academic history have revealed much about the true nature and purpose of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) ideology. The most significant “A-ha!” moment from le affair Gay is that DEI only “works” in noncompetitive environments such as government and academia. The principles of “diversity” and “equity” implicitly assume that entities and organizations will continue along their current trajectory regardless of who’s in charge. DEI discounts merit, ability, and leadership and assumes as a matter of ideological gospel that “diversity” will more than make up for their loss.

While most Americans are struggling to make ends meet in this economy, Joe Biden was just on his gazillionth vacation, this time in St. Croix. And it looks like he enjoyed plenty of time in the sun because on his way back to Washington, D.C. (a mere layover before his next vacation coming up shortly, no doubt), Biden was seen with a wicked sunburn on his face. "The 81-year-old president’s striking new sunburn was on full display as he shook hands on the tarmac of Henry E. Rohlsen Airport in Christiansted, St. Croix, before boarding Air Force One with first lady Jill Biden. The sun’s rays apparently battered

Ray Epps, the only person who was captured on video actually telling people to storm the Capitol on Jan. 6. 2021, has just been recommended for a six-month sentence, while others who entered the Capitol when police opened the doors for them and walked around for awhile taking selfies are facing years in prison. What’s going on here? The most obvious explanation is that Ray Epps is or was a fed, and a leader of efforts to fabricate a Jan. 6 “insurrection” in order to frame and destroy Donald Trump. But surely the leftist elites wouldn’t dream of doing such a thing, would they? The Daily Wire reported Tuesday

Lee Jae-myung, recognized as South Korea’s main opposition party leader, was stabbed in the neck at an impromptu press conference in the southern city of Busan. Lee had just completed a tour of the Gadeokdo New Airport construction site and had stopped to talk with a gathering of reporters. There, a yet-to-be-identified man in his sixties approached Lee, asking for an autograph. The man mingling with Lee supporters, wore a paper crown with Lee’s name on it. He suddenly lunged forward and stabbed Lee in the left side of his neck. The attacker was immediately subdued, separated from the crowd, and arrested. Lee was airlifted to Pusan National

Since Oct. 7, the public has been inundated with allegations of Israeli atrocities and human rights abuses. Israel, we’re told, is committing a “genocide” in Gaza, and, in fact, has been through all the years in which the Gazan population has grown steadily. The strange story of one young woman, or really, one photograph, is an object lesson in why such claims of Israeli evils should be taken with a large grain of salt. On X, a poster who identifies herself as Hagit on Sunday posted a highly illuminating thread about a girl with “6 different identities,” and “all of them suffered from the IDF!” This is, said Hagit,

The fact that the hordes of new arrivals know all the loopholes and legal angles to scam our immigration laws and maximize benefits on our welfare system, while the working American does not, is really quite astounding, and tells me that there have to be a number of lawyers involved, telling these people what they can do to cheat American citizens out of a country. Check out this story, reported by the New York Post yesterday: "Two New York City men staged armed robberies at convenience stores and fast food joints across the United States to scheme immigration benefits, federal prosecutors said Friday.

The Biden regime seems hell-bent on celebrating and subsidizing the worst tendencies of human nature: not only every conceivable manner of perversion, but resentment, envy, the privilege of protected classes rather than advancement on the basis of merit, and so much more. It is not hard to suspect that Biden and his henchmen have some vested interest in encouraging Americans to become worse people, harder to get along with and more difficult to deal with. What could more effectively justify an authoritarian crackdown than a population that is as obstreperous as it is immature?

We are about to embark on what might be one of the wildest years in the history of American politics, and it may end up merely a prelude. If 2024 is set to be tumultuous and unpredictable, just wait until 2025 if Donald Trump wins the presidency again this year. His adversaries don’t have a history of accepting his victories with equanimity. Trump’s unexpected victory in 2016 launched conspiracy theories about how Russia had helped him win; catalyzed a years-long law enforcement investigation into him and his campaign based on those theories; and set off protests in the streets. All that was mild, given what may yet be in the offing.

We have become a nation of Madame Defarges — eagerly knitting names of those to be subject to arbitrary justice.
