From world peace to extinct horses: 100-year-old
predictions about 2024

Well, we’re finally here. Is this the future that you envisioned? Nearly 100 years ago, a group of visionaries dared to imagine what life would be like in 2024. Some of their prophecies fell woefully short while others proved to be strangely accurate. Join us now as we gaze into that crystal ball from 1924. [SNIP] Arthur Dean, whose parental advice column appeared in newspapers across the country, expressed concerns about American dietary habits. “I sometimes wonder what our stomachs will look like and be like 100 years from now,” he wrote. “Will we have any teeth at all? Will there be any color on our face except paint?"

One chemist figured out that we'd have nuclear missiles capable of destroying any city, anywhere. But, I think the one most accurate prediction was this one: "U.S. Sen. William E. Borah, a Republican from Idaho, blamed “extravagance in government” for oppressive taxes on Americans. “Unless the people see the need of simplifying government, we shall be unable to meet the problem and in 100 years from now we shall be in no better condition than the nations that have perished in the past,” he said." And the bug scientist, a Dr. Howard, was concerned about something to stop population growth. He said "Births will have to be limited in some manner for the earth cannot supply food for an excess population.” He and Sanger and now Bill Gates and the WEF depopulationists would be good friends. And we are feeding the world's billions without problems....until the WEF folks and the Green Crazies get more traction in their efforts to destroy modern agriculture. Stalin proved that eliminating food was the surest way to wipe out large numbers of people, and the WEF and Green Crazies are going on his model. But he didn't predict that the EcoCrazies would want us to eat bugs instead of beef or pork.

They all seemed to gage the 2024 by looking at current events. But there were some interesting ones, like this, "We will have a woman president, woman politicians and police,” Ferraro wrote." Hey, if Michelle Obama steps in at the DNC convention there's a chance we'll have a woman president, even if it's identifying as female.

As #7 mentioned, the prediction from Senator Borah (a Republican no less) was the most accurate. The others were, at least, entertaining.

I will concede that the "Horse" prediction was prescient...my Families business at that time was collecting train loads of horses from the south and west, bringing them to NY State and training/selling them...draft horses for cartage, construction, road/canal building, interurban and urban transit lines, fire companies, personal buggies, carriages, sleighs, as well as individual riders and racers. The Infernal combustion engine made such careers extinct. The horses them selves were saved from extinction by becoming "Pleasure Pets" for the wealthy for the most part, only the "cowboy west" still employs horses in their prior professions. The family business transitioned to selling dairy cows..and herds...on credit... 1/3 of the herd buyers Milk Check came straight back to the seller. Often the "Farmer" added his Farm Mortgage to the same deal. Govt regulation, administration and "Oversight" eventually put such businesses and such small farmers out of business though. Dairy is now all genetically engineered, industrialized, mechanized, computerized, and even robotically maintained Mega Corp affairs. "Go BIG or go Broke". I found online two cases where my gr-Grandfather had to fight in the NY Supreme court, one to evict squatters who sold the herd they had purchased without paying it off, the other where the "New" State Industrial Board was insisting he pay the "employee" insurance premiums for a timber company that had contracted to clear some forest lands... a three months completion based contract, paid on a board feet basis, to be accomplished as the contractor saw fit. Timber workers insurance premiums were 3.57% of earnings, while his regular/year round farm workers was only o.67% because the work was more dangerous. They wanted to collect MORE for those 6 workers/3 months, though there were no injuries or claims, than he paid for his 28 employees for an entire year. Even then the State Industrial Board was claiming that ANYONE paid by anyone, no matter how short the time, nor independent the action, was an "Employee" and the State had to get it's share. Fascist Govt control over what had always been independent private affairs.

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) is rushing through a tax bill unveiled days ago over significant policy objections from both conservative and centrist factions of the Republican Party. Conservatives have spoken out against provisions in the bill they see as handouts to illegal immigrants, particularly an expansion of the Child Tax Credit without language requiring the parent to have a Social Security number. They argue the expansion would serve as an additional powerful migration pull, even as migrant encounters at the border reach record highs under President Joe Biden.

The damaged display included a statue of the pagan idol Baphomet. [SNIP] Michael Cassidy, a former Mississippi congressional candidate, was charged after the vandalism with misdemeanor fourth-degree criminal mischief. He said at the time, "My conscience is held captive to the word of God, not to bureaucratic decree. And so I acted." That charge was upgraded, according to court documents reported on by the Des Moines Register, accusing Cassidy of committing felony third-degree criminal mischief.

UPS says it will cut 12,000 jobs following a disappointing sales outlook for the year. The layoffs come just five months after the company reached a major union deal. The job cuts will help the company save $1 billion in costs, CEO Carol Tome said in a call Tuesday morning. Manager and contract roles will be the most impacted. Labor negotiations last year threatened to disrupt package deliveries for millions of customers, before a deal with Teamsters was reached. As consumers feared potential strikes, they took their business to rival companies, like FedEx. UPS expects to gain most of that business back, but so far has only won back 60% of it.

An activist investor has urged BP to ditch its green strategy and continue to cash in on oil and gas. Bluebell Capital Partners wrote to the energy giant’s chairman Helge Lund with concerns about how the FTSE 100 energy giant is run. The London-based hedge fund blasted BP’s green transition plan as ‘irrational’ and said the strategy has depressed its share price. Investors are concerned that BP is underperforming compared with rival Shell and US energy giants Exxon Mobil and Chevron. Shell has scaled back its net zero transition strategy under the leadership of chief executive Wael Sawan. And American energy firms have doubled down on oil and gas production.

Protesters threw soup at the Mona Lisa on Sunday in the latest instance of deliberately shocking climate activism. While some consider disruptive antics such as this alienating to the public, research into social movements shows there is strategy behind it. By combining radical forms of civil disobedience with more mainstream actions, such as lobbying and state-sanctioned demonstrations, activists not only grab the public’s attention, they make less aggressive tactics more acceptable and possibly more successful. I study the role of disruptive politics and social movements in global climate policy and have chronicled the ebb, flow and dynamism of climate activism. With today’s political institutions largely focused on short-term desires over long-term

Biden on Saturday defeated the other long-shot Democrats on South Carolina’s ballot, including Minnesota Rep. Dean Phillips and author Marianne Williamson. His reelection campaign invested heavily in driving up turnout in what it saw as a test drive of its efforts to mobilize Black voters, a key Democratic bloc central to Biden’s chances in a likely November rematch against former President Donald Trump.

At the In-N-Out, criminals were going from car to car in the drive-up lane, robbing customers as they waited for their orders. It’s election season and the talking heads are all singing the “this will be the most important election of our lifetime” chorus -- for real this time. While this year’s election will certainly be important, I’d argue that 2008 was the most important election in our lifetime. That’s the year in which we were offered a fork in the road, and we chose the “fundamentally transform America” left turn. We’ve just been looking for the “transform it back” off-ramp ever since. However, I am willing to say that 2024 is likely to be the most dangerous election in our lifetime.

Far too many cultural changes for the worse have happened because far too many people bought the “diversity is our strength” and the “love is love” mantras. Both are cultural poison because both drag your attention away from a person’s character and merit and play to narcissism. Many people of color have come to believe in and rely on their skin color as the sole determinant of their worthiness. Implicit in this belief is that dark skin is good, white skin is bad.
