JERUSALEM — Israel and Hamas on Thursday agreed to extend a temporary truce by another day minutes before it was set to expire, said Qatar, which has been mediating between the two sides. Negotiations on extending it came down to the wire, with last-minute disagreements over the hostages to be freed by Hamas in exchange for another day of a halt in fighting. Word of the extension came just as the truce was to expire at 7 a.m. (0500 GMT) Thursday. The Qatari Foreign Ministry said the truce was being extended under the same terms as in the past, under which Hamas has released 10 Israeli hostages per day in exchange

An Illinois appeals court upheld actor Jussie Smollett’s conviction for staging a hate crime in a Friday ruling.
The 2-1 ruling means Smollett is likely headed to jail to serve out his 150-day sentence, though his legal team vowed to appeal the ruling to the state supreme court.

The bottom line is this: the modern home of antisemitism is the Democrat Party.
That’s not to say that being a Democrat makes you an antisemite. Hardly. 7 in 10 Jews are Democrats, and many non-Jewish Democrats are anything but antisemites.
But let’s face facts: the home of antisemites in America is the Democrat Party. While 80% of Republicans and nearly 70% of Independents support Israel, only 45% of Democrats do. It’s pretty hard to ignore these dramatic differences.

I'll admit to being pleasantly surprised by the outcome of Thursday night's debate between Ron DeSantis and Gavin Newsom. When you hear something enough, it's easy to start believing it, and I can't count how many times I've heard "DeSantis isn't a good debater" leave the lips of a Republican. What that was based on, I'll never quite know, but the myth has been completely dispelled.
Yes, DeSantis managed to match Newsom's stage presence, standing up to his smarmy, slick demeanor, but his takedown of the California governor was about something more. It was about knowing the issues, but also throwing caution to the wind in arguing them

For months Chairman Dick Durbin and Democratic Senator Sheldon Whitehouse have been trying to issue subpoenas to longtime conservative activists Leonard Leo and billionaire Harlon Crow. Leo and Crow, both private individuals, are also friends to Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito.
Earlier this month, Durbin briefly backed off his conquest to subpoena Leo and Crow. Today, he blatantly disregarded Senate process and voted to do just that.

On a recent episode of HBO’s “Real Time” with Bill Maher, guest Scott Galloway sat across from Maher and the former Democrat governor of New York Andrew Cuomo and said, “I was on the board of my kids’ school during COVID. I wanted a harsher lockdown policy. In retrospect, I was wrong. The damage to children by keeping them out of school longer was greater than the risks.
“But here’s the bottom line. Myself, the great people at the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), I’d like to think the governor, (Cuomo nods) we were all operating with imperfect information, we were doing our best. Let’s learn from it.
