The Bay Area is still struggling to recover
from 'defund the police' (now they're
hoping Texas can help)

Three years after “defund the police” became a BLM rallying cry, San Francisco and other Bay Area cities are still trying to recover from the brief popularity that phrase once had with mayors and city councils. San Francisco is still down hundreds of police officers and has come up with a new plan to attract more recruits: Go to Texas. The San Francisco Police Department is visiting four Texas university campuses through September as part of new recruiting efforts to find candidates outside of California. For the first time, police officer candidates will be tested outside of California, with a written test, a physical ability test and an oral interview.

It's sad but also satisfying when liberal policies come full circle. You don't hear much about Portland and Seattle these days but I'm sure they are enjoying their new lifestyles just as coastal Californians, Chicagoans and New Yorkers are.

Once self-discipline and respect for authority goes out the window, the only way to reverse that trend is to start breaking heads again, like the cops you once hated and defunded used to do. You people selected George Floyd as your hero, call on him to save you. Anarchy has an uglier face than the worst cop out there.

I lived there my entire adult life. To be fair, the bigger cities were all in on this but most of the smaller cities ignored the entire hate the cops thing. My former city didn't have a huge burst of cop quits/retirements and has no trouble hiring new officers. SF, Oakland, San Jose, and such were always pits and are worse than ever now, though.

There is not one big city in Texas that I would consider living in. I’ve been to them all and none have any charms for me. From college to beyond retirement I lived in and loved San Francisco. Were I a young Texan up for law enforcement I’d seriously consider taking a job there. Lots of fun, great weather.

Loathsome diseases are coming to America

The border patrol has acknowledged that there are three confirmed cases of tuberculosis amongst illegal aliens who crossed into America through the Biden administration’s encouragement and connivance. This should worry everyone. We don’t think much about tuberculosis, except maybe as a Victorian disease, but it was once America’s greatest killer and, thanks to drug-resistant strains, can be again. The tweet is straightforward: Of course, three confirmed cases are simply the teeniest tip of the iceberg. With people from the world’s undeveloped countries pouring by the millions over our southern border, you can be guaranteed that thousands, maybe tens of thousands, of them are harboring diseases that long ago vanished in America

Washington — A State Department IT contractor was charged with espionage after investigators alleged he sent classified documents from sensitive federal systems to foreign government contacts — and likely gave those contacts access to his U.S. government account, the Justice Department announced Thursday. Abraham Teklu Lemma — described by officials as a naturalized U.S. citizen of Ethiopian descent with a top-secret security clearance — was allegedly working for and accessing sensitive U.S. government records at the bidding of Ethiopia since at least last summer, two sources familiar with the investigation confirmed to CBS News.

Deviating from his past legislative support of transgender youth in California, Democratic governor Gavin Newsom vetoed a bill that would have required parents to demonstrate affirmation of their child’s gender identity in custody court battles. Under California Bill AB957, judges would have been legally obligated to specifically consider whether parents have affirmed their child’s gender identity or gender expression in determining “the health, safety, and welfare of the child.” The California State Assembly passed the bill along strictly party lines earlier this month, hoping to advance transgender rights in the state.

That led The Washington Post to put two reporters on a proposed hit piece. The goal was to pressure pizza shops that were participating to back out by accusing them of supporting sexual misconduct. The fun began when Portnoy caught wind of the coming smear job, though. He called one of the reporters and confronted her, catching her in a lie. California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) launched a savage attack on a federal judge on social media Friday evening, calling U.S. Judge Roger T. Benitez “an extremist, right-wing zealot with no regard to [sic] human life.” Newsom’s post was a reaction to Judge Benitez’s ruling Friday that California’s limit on high-capacity magazines violates the Second Amendment — the second time Benitez has ruled against the ban since a partial stay in 2019. Benitez, who was born in Cuba, serves in the Southern District of California and was nominated by George W. Bush. The Los Angeles Times reported: A federal judge for the second time overturned California’s ban on large-capacity ammunition magazines

While announcing the launch of the executive Office of Gun Violence Prevention, President Joe Biden pledged to use the office to “centralize, accelerate, and intensify” his administration’s gun control push. Biden noted that he has chosen Vice President Kamala Harris to oversee the office. A report by the Washington Post makes clear coordination in the office is expected between the “White House, the Community Justice Action Fund and Everytown for Gun Safety.” After Biden announced the launch of the new office on Friday, he then called for an “assault weapons” ban, a “high capacity” magazine ban, and universal background checks. He also called for Congress to take action for more gun restrictions

A federal judge yet again declared California's ban on gun magazines unconstitutional Friday. The ban was first instituted in a 2000 measure signed into law by then-Gov. Gray Davis, a Democrat, and prohibited state residents from buying or selling magazines that hold 10 or more rounds. U.S. District Judge Roger T. Benitez struck it down after previously striking it in 2019. The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals overturned Benitez's ruling in 2021, arguing that the ban fell in line with the state's efforts to reduce gun violence and is compatible with the Second Amendment. Then, the Supreme Court vacated the appeals court ruling and ordered new proceedings consistent
