Former Defense Secretary Leon Panetta has no regrets signing the now-infamous open letter heavily suggesting the Hunter Biden laptop was Russian disinformation.
Panetta was among the dozens of former intelligence officials sounding the alarm on Russia's interference in the 2020 presidential election after the New York Post published its bombshell reporting about then-candidate Joe Biden's son, shedding light on shady foreign business dealings.
After several news organizations authenticated the laptop's contents, CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins asked the ex-Obama official Monday night whether he wished he never signed the letter "given what we know now."

Why would anyone think that Panetta would regret signing that document. He is a leftist, hyper-partisan for which truth has no meaning and anything can be said or done to push the Leftist agenda.

Says a lot about Panetta’s lack of ethics and morals. In other words, he doesn’t mind lying if it accomplishes what he wants. Typical democrat.

I would be shocked, almost as shocked as I would be if a Federal Judge actually followed the law, if any of the signatories had 'regret'. The idea was never about the truth, it was about the outcome and the outcome was just as they desired.

Because Panetta is proud of being a lying, corrupt, rotten Deep State thug. And he was such when he was in charge of the CIA, and you can count on the fact that he installed CIA people just like him into positions of permanent power there.
The whole DC power cabal is rotten to the core with zero ethics, and their only watchwords are Money and POWER.

Kind of a big deal. Panetta ought to be mouldering in the darkest deepest hole in that DC jail until they figure out just how bad to really punish him.

Time to call what this was. It was election interference by present and past government officials. They should be charged accordingly. Also, it is time to start cancel their government pensions.

As far as Sec Defs go the only differences between Panetta and Austin is skin color and the fact that Panetta was only a few neurons smarter than the current dummy in the largest office in the Pentagon. So, of course he has no regrets for helping deceive We the People leading up to the 2020 Presidential Election. As Secretary of Defense in my opinion he ranks lower than guys like Weinberger, Cheney, Hagel, Carter, Mathis, and Gates. The only one I had respect for was Rumsfeld. This big nosed hack should just shut up and enjoy his millions and grandkids.

Of course not, he's a DEMONRAT, first and foremost. Truth has no place in the Democrat playbook.

Panetta once represented the Congressional district that included Fort Ord. When the BRAC committee recommended closing it he offered token resistance in order to look good to his constituents. But when it did close and got carved up he was quick to get his piece, setting up his Institute for Public Policy on a prime piece of real estate. Imagine forking out $100 for a ticket to one of his lectures and getting fed tripe such as this. This year's theme centers around the risks of a divided government - he feels that America was better off during the two years of democrat control of the White House and both houses of Congress. The man is beyond hope.

Leon Panetta...isn't he the one who had to fly home to California every weekend on our dime to take care of his walnut farm when he was in the Clinton cabinet? I'd like to get that money back.

“Regret” speaks to his scruples.
The fact that he opined on an artifact he never examined for personal gain - even if very indirect gain- speaks to his morals.
The fact that his actions undermined the integrity of the US fabric of laws and norms speaks to his traitorous nature.

The question posed to Panetta was whether he regrets signing the letter "given what we now know." The interviewer should have asked him to reiterate "what we now know." Or she should have read him a list of what we now know. Then she should have asked him if he was aware of this list, and what was his opinion of each item.

Being a Democrat means never having to say you're sorry.
As for these who say the rank and file of the FBI, CIA, NSA, etc - are good while their leaders are corrupt - well, those same "leaders" set the tone for the agency.

In the past, I believed that Panetta was one of only a few Democrat officials who actually tried to perform in a nonpartisan way. Therefore, I was shocked when he signed the letter concerning the Hunter laptop because it was so obvious that the contents were authentic, and at any rate the letter was just nakedly partisan regardless of the accuracy of the contents. Sadly, Panetta's statement now is no shock to me at all. He like the others knows they had no business ever issuing the letter which all knew to be a lie. Panetta is assigned to historical disgrace along with the rest of the signers and nothing he ever did in office can ever remove the strain of this act. Unfortunately, prison is not in his future.

Mr. Panetta knows there's a difference between digging up dirt, and manufacturing it.
FTA:
"I signed that letter for one reason, which was to make the American people aware that the Russians deliberately were engaged in a disinformation campaign in the United States and trying to impact on our election and trying to impact on our ability to have free and fair elections. That's why I signed that letter."
As if Americans hadn't figured out by 2020 that Dems created the Russia Hoax to try to get Donald Trump thrown out of office as a Russian Asset.
Americans are well aware that governments try to interfere in each others elections. What makes Mr. Panetta's lack of remorse so egregious is that he signed off on a letter he knew was created by and for unelected bureaucrats our own government, to help the Democrat candidate "win" in 2020.

Given their security clearance levels, I presume they knew what the FBI had already confirmed, which was within days, that the laptop was genuine.
So, he signed that letter likely knowing it was to be used for political purposes, and didn't mind doing so since the objective was to deflect attention away from Biden family, and it would fool enough people to help him win the election.
Any security clearance he, or any of those who signed, should be cancelled since it seems they would use it for political purposes when they felt it was warranted.

I'd feel better about all of this if all of the signers of that letter lost their security clearances for tampering in an election. They'd, of course, be free to reapply for it. Choices have consequences.

No, he is no sorrier than Harry Reid, who said that Mitt Romney hadn't paid his taxes for a decade. When Reid was outed as a liar, he reminded us that Romney didn't win, did he? The 51 signatories of the lying letter all ought to be in prison for massive election interference. Leon Panetta, too.
