Is Mr. Bean Right About EVs?

Original Article

Rowan Atkinson or as many of us know him: “The guy who played Mr. Bean,” has more experience with EVs than most. As an avid car owner and enthusiast, an early adopter of electric vehicles, and having previously studied electrical and electronic engineering (before his entirely unrelated career in entertainment), he surely has an informed opinion.

The heavy handed promotion of the EV by the government and media is absolute idiocy. This is not a time to be dismantling the technology the world runs on. If a change is needed then a free market should be allowed to make that choice without subsidies. EV owners should at minimum have to pay the same road use taxes that are levied on gasoline and diesel. An even more insidious act by government and media is the adoption of the green religion of the global warming hoax. There is no real evidence that the global warming models can be relied on for anything. CO2 is not a problem, it is an essential requirement for life and if anything the world needs more CO2. Anyone who relies on correlation of CO2 and historic temperatures is ignoring the fact that warmer temperatures bring more CO2 out of solution in the oceans and lower temperatures cause more to be sequestered in the oceans due to the different solubility of CO2 in water. Temperature drives CO2, not the other way around.

EV enthusiasts of today remind me of the cartoon of two mathematicians standing before a blackboard filled with numbers, Greek symbols and other mathematical arcana. Between the equation and the answer read the words: and then a miracle happened.

If the electricity is from fossil fuels, which most electricity is, then an EV simply exchanges the car’s exhaust pipe for the power station’s exhaust pipe. Thank you for stating it so eloquently, Rowan. Maybe NOW, stupid people will understand? And you're right, too, about tackling the infrastructure first. Biofuels? No. For the vision of an electrified world, that means nuclear - not renewable - energy.

EVs are a technological dead end, and were exactly that 140 years ago when they first hit the market. For the uniformed, they seem like a good idea, but in reality, they are a nightmare if tried to be used beyond a short range commuter car. And I got to watch Mr. Bean race his antique Bentley at Goodwood Revival races a few years ago. It was pretty amazing to see these big old, tall, stately sedans blasting around the course at high speed. They were powerful and fast cars in their days, and clearly he is a skilled driver.

I will continue to drive my normal car. EVs might have a place in small European countries but here in the wide open US, with hurricanes and wildfires, they are more of a liability than a benefit. People are going to get killed waiting for a charge or if the EV suddenly runs out of charge while they are waiting in traffic to evacuate. No thanks!!

Common sense is all one needs to conclude that EVs are only slightly more useful than a golf cart.

ames Landis is widely credited with crafting the theoretical architecture supporting President Roosevelt’s radical reconstruction—and expansion—of the federal government. Landis shrewdly both established and legitimized the regulatory state, including Roosevelt’s creation of new federal administrative agencies, by offering the regulatory state as the solution to the problem of modern governance: the administrative state “is, in essence, our generation’s answer to the inadequacy of the judicial and legislative process.” The Landis premise took concrete shape through Roosevelt’s expansion of the regulatory state, and in doing so, it brought to fruition Woodrow Wilson’s progressive intellectual project: rule by experts, insulated from the popular will

The self-proclaimed "Never Again Trumper" Paul Ryan once praised President Donald J. Trump on CNBC's "Squawk Box," April 17, 2018 -- chatting with Joe Kernen. This is a dramatically different face than what Breitbart recently reported about Ryan, on the same Squawk Box program, with some very harsh things to say about the former president (chatting with the same Joe Kernan). Here is the Breitbart account of those mean-spirited comments:

Inclusion” is a big element of our culture today. For example, we are looking for a new rabbi at my synagogue, and there have been several focus groups querying congregants about what they are most looking for in a new religious leader, so I attended one. The trait overwhelmingly mentioned as the most attractive was whether or not he or she was “inclusive.” It beat out what one might expect in normal America to be listed as the most important qualities: virtuousness, honesty, merit, God-fearing, Bible-centered, knowledge and scholarship about Judaism, charitableness, leadership skills, competence, empathy, humility, and kindness. Why has this occurred? And why care?

Dr. Anthony Fauci, formerly Joe Biden’s top medical advisor, has accepted a position as a distinguished professor at Georgetown University Medical School. As NBC news explains, Dr. Fauci has “several personal connections” to the campus. Dr. Fauci’s wife Christine Grady earned her undergraduate and PhD degrees at Georgetown. Fauci and Grady were married in Georgetown’s Dahlgren Chapel, and their three daughters were born at Georgetown Hospital. The NBC report fails to note that Grady is the head of bioethics at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and that her personal connections with Dr. Fauci are far more extensive.

The present-day Left bears little resemblance to the old civil-libertarian, integrationist Democratic Party that existed from the 1960s through 2000. The antecedents to its current madness were once previewed in the old party’s extremist wing of campus radicals of the 1960s and 1970s. They were accentuated by Black Lives Matter and Antifa during the Obama years, forged during the COVID lockdown and George Floyd riots, and polished during the era of Trump derangement syndrome. On almost every issue, Democrats have repudiated their prior reverence for the Supreme Court.

There is a hardwired instinct in all men that drives them to give their lives and use their strength in projects and ambitions beyond themselves. This drive is built into them by their creator, because he made them in his image, and it exists around the world, across all religions, nations, and generations. It is part of masculinity. All men have this instinctive drive, it is only a matter of how they use it. For a few hundred years, Christianity held influence over American masculinity. Men used their strength and ambition to build, bless, provide for, and protect the weak.

America’s day of reckoning has arrived. After decades of lofty sanctuary rhetoric and scandalously reckless immigration policies, we now face some big questions with no easy answers. Where are we to put the millions of new arrivals? How will we pay for them? What is the cost to our society? While Joe Biden and his team of anti-borders radicals have been busy turning our country into a make-a-wish charity for the rest of the world’s population, it seems little, if any, thought was given to where all these newcomers would reside.

We hear a lot about the loss of “institutional legitimacy” these days. One of the great ironies attendant on that loss is a revolution in sentiment among many—but by no means all—people who think of themselves as conservative. Hitherto, such people would have been staunch supporters of those institutions that, traditionally, had represented the rule of law, the continuity of our culture, etc. Nowadays, they look with a jaundiced eye upon once-respected institutions like the Department of Justice, the FBI, the CIA, and the rest of the national security/surveillance apparat. How could it be otherwise? Recent revelations that scores if not hundreds of figures from that world had insinuated themselves

Former White House press secretary Jen Psaki claimed Republicans are recruiting Muslims against transgender people in her Sunday episode of MSNBC’s “Inside with Jen Psaki.” Psaki claimed Republicans are using former President Richard Nixon’s “Southern Strategy” method by turning Muslim Americans against transgender people and, in turn, winning their vote. “Now, decades later, the right-wing is reviving that same playbook,” Psaki said. “This time, with Muslim Americans and trans people. Hear me out here, the GOP is trying to recruit Muslim Americans, a community that makes up less than two percent of the U.S. population against another tiny marginalized group of Americans — transgender people.”

Longshot candidates remain at risk of not qualifying in time to reach the debate stage, while some of the frontrunners are threatening to boycott due to restrictions and rules set by the Republican National Committee (RNC).

Not an obscure one, either: About a year prior, Inoue gave the Chair’s Address at a prestigious writing studies research conference and declared, “White people can perpetuate white supremacy by being present.Your body perpetuates racism.”
