A sign of a civilization in headlong decline is its embrace of absurdities. Unfortunately for the United States, we are witnessing an epidemic of nihilist nonsense. Here are a few examples:
Reparations
How could a dysfunctional state like California even contemplate $800 billion in reparations?
The state currently faces a $31 billion annual deficit—and it’s climbing. Its $100 billion high-speed rail project is inert, a veritable Stonehenge of concrete monoliths with a foot of track. California’s income tax rates are already the highest in the nation. Its sales taxes, electricity rates, and gas taxes and prices are among the steepest in the country. And for what?

Liberals/leftists have not yet come to realize that "Utopia" comes at a very high price.

With the MSM being the propaganda arm of the left, the truth does not exist.

Wow, VDH really sums up the dire situation of our nation. Seems like either we have a huge uprising against this crap or we will be overthrown.

The atrocities VDH cites in this article are truly, truly frustrating to the sane members of this once God fearing and freedom loving nation. Now, all is headed to damnation in a hand basket. I cringe at every day's revelations of each new atrocity but what am I to do? As part of the silent majority, my family and I lay low to avoid the scorn and derision and ultimately the violence that is proven to be the weapons of the Marxists over running all that is good. Elections are meant to be our voices against these evils but our votes have also been corrupted and stolen. I do not have a pitch fork. I am in the end a coward. Lord, deliver us from evil.

Not "a bang" Mr. Hanson, more bangs than can be counted, and quite soon I should think. We, the republic, have reached the end of our road. What we don't destroy, the Chinese will.

Have any of the state workers realized that once the large payments are made, if they are, that none of those people will be eligible for the government programs any longer, which means the State could simply reduce the expenditures from the budget?
Oh, that means you, government worker, won't have a job either.
So, let's say over a 10 year period you dole out the payments being requested, and reduce the size and scope of government at the same time.
Or, another option, let's say you're living and renting in a home for the past 10+ years. What if the deal would be you inherit the home, and the owner gains a tax deduction at the same time (spread over 3-4 years, longer if needed). Of course you'd inherit the new stepped-up cost basis for property taxes too.
How many homes within the corridor of Los Angeles County would have such scenarios?

Love VDH, but of late his columns have almost changed tone from a diagnosis to a post mortem. What we need is a prescription while the body is still breathing. This is not something one president can fix.

I feel sorry for those who have hope. I laugh at those who claim that "America's best days are ahead."
