On Thursday’s broadcast of Bloomberg’s “Surveillance,” White House National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby responded to criticisms that President Joe Biden should have met with House Speaker Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) about the debt ceiling sooner so that the President wouldn’t have to cancel parts of his overseas trip by stating that raising the debt limit “is a congressional duty, they should just simply do their job.”
Bloomberg TV Washington Correspondent Annmarie Hordern asked, “Critics will say then the President didn’t manage this correctly, he should have been speaking to Speaker McCarthy earlier so he didn’t have to cancel his foreign trip, but do you think the President

I used to think this guy was half-way decent. Now I think he is an idiot. We are gazillions of dollars in debt. These aren't normal times debt-wise. Drastic measures are needed. I realize the dems don't care about debt. The democrat party is totally irresponsible, along with being corrupt.

I, too, once thought Kirby was a decent guy. It turns out he's a smarmy little worm who prostitutes himself daily in service to his uppers who put him up to appearing on camera to cover for them. The mealy little man with the mushy mouth has no shame, so long as he's allowed to keep accruing days toward his retirement and whatever cash cow is offered him.

Biden is not about to negotiate with McCarthy on the debt limit, that is as long as McCarthy follows any sort of conservative Republican line. Instead Biden will actually do any such negotiations with his old Senate buddy McConnell, who Biden knows from experience that such “under the covers” negotiations with McConnell will as usual essentially will end up as a “cave” to his and leftist Democrat demands.

Kirby is a political hack and a disgrace to the uniform he once wore. He climbed to the rank of Rear Admiral in the Navy (equivalent to a one star General) doing public affairs work.

FTA: " this [raising the debt ceiling] is a congressional duty, they should just simply do their job.”
Congress controls the pursestrings. They have the duty to act responsibly, which means limiting spending and not automatically increasing the debt ceiling whenever the previous ceiling is reached. Automatic increases make a mockery of the word "ceiling."
Regarding duties, control of borders is a president's duty, Biden should just simply do his job.

“is a congressional duty, they should just simply do their job.”
They DID..technically...while I would prefer returning to an actual budget, 13 appropriations bills independently negotiated and voted through the house...they DID do as Biden earlier demanded and increased the Debt ceiling and approved an omnibus spending deal.
Biden however did NOT control HIS spending to stay under that Ceiling, which is HIS JOB.
Another story points out, that the Pentagon "found" $5 BILLION dollars that they had forgotten about, BUT instead of using it to offset something to help stay under the debt ceiling, they just happily announced they will use it for even MORE funds sent to Ukraine...that they will not need to even ask Congress to allow.

Re #2, Rear Admiral rank used to be a dual rank, for historical reasons that I won't explain here, with Rear Admiral (lower half) and Rear Admiral (upper half) representing 1 star and 2 stars respectively but both wearing two stars on their uniforms. The officers who needed to know were expected to know and did know
who was senior, much like date-of-rank issues which still exist when two "equal rank" officers butt heads - the officer who gained the rank earlier is senior, and ranking.
Today, apparently by order of one of the tradition hating civilians in the Obama WH, the previously wartime only ranks of Commodore (one star) and Rear Admiral (two stars) are being used in the Navy, although this apparently has gone back and forth a couple of times.
So - your explanation was incorrect or ambiguous under either system.

To use a word Democrats love to use: UNSUSTAINABLE. As in—being trillions of dollars in debt is unsustainable. What a smug, arrogant government toadie Kirby is. But then again, so’s his boss. Whomever the boss pulling the puppet strings is.

Hey, go easy on Kirby. He rose through the ranks as a spokesman/public affairs person, only to reach his current assignment, which is to try to speak positively about the Mush-Head occupant of the White House and the myriad of stupid decisions emanating from his administration. To make things worse, Kirby is only there because his "superior," Karine Jean-Pierre, the lesbian who he has to call his "boss," is nearly as irrational and incoherent as the Mush-Head himself. So, Kirby's just trying to smile and speak guile to cover for those two dolts ahead of him. There must be thousands of lefty bureaucrats working their tails off to keep their politically-appointed, incompetenet "superiors" from falling on their faces. Think of Kamala Harris, Lloyd Austin, Mark Milley, Buttigieg, Granholm, and hundreds more. Then there are those who are worse than incompetent, and are outright evil, like Christopher Wray and Merrick Garland. [Some of the foregoing support for Kirby = sarcasm.]

Let’s default. That will be on Biden. Isn’t the one in charge.
