President Joe Biden told G7 leaders on Friday that Washington supports joint allied training programs for Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighter jets, senior U.S. officials said, a significant endorsement as Kyiv seeks to boost its air power against Russia.
Training on the U.S.-made jets will take place in Europe and will require months to complete, one of the officials said. U.S. officials have estimated the most expeditious time needed for training and delivery of F-16s at 18 months. "As the training takes place over the coming months, our coalition of countries participating in this effort will decide when to actually provide jets, how many we will provide,

We had 2 World Wars, why not 2 Vietnams? It's only an advisory capacity anyway.

Brits have been training Ukrainian pilots for a while, months or more. The only advantage the F-16 has is that huge numbers have been built, and everyone in Europe has plenty.

So this guarantees the war will go on for at least another two years, right?

After all the BILLIONS of dollars that we have given them, them paying is a drop in the bucket. BUT we all know that the taxpayer will pay under a Sniffer regime.

Someone’s getting rich off the Ukrainian laundromat, and it’s not the US.

I hope this can help defeat the Russians. IMO, we should support Ukraine as much as is required.
And comparisons with Vietnam are ridiculous, and nonsensical. Not one American has been fighting in Ukraine, and there have been zero proposals for anything beyond equipment, ammunition and training.
The Ukrainians are fighting their own war. In Vietnam....we had huge numbers of American troops, and over 50,000 dead. How many American dead in Ukraine? Zero.

Biden won't be happy until instead of the Russian trying to invade it is Ukraine invading Russia, and the Nukes start flying.

So by their Reckoning they're expecting this war to last at least another two years, probably more like four.
Contrast that with Trump's claim that he would end this thing in a couple of weeks. No wonder the military industrial complex loves Biden.

History, history:
by 1955 President Dwight D. Eisenhower had pledged his firm support to Diem and South Vietnam.
With training and equipment from American military and the CIA, Diem’s security forces cracked down on Viet Minh' Working under the “domino theory,” which held that if one Southeast Asian country fell to communism, many other countries would follow, Kennedy increased U.S. aid, though he stopped short of committing to a large-scale military intervention.
By 1962, the U.S. military presence in South Vietnam had reached some 9,000 troops, compared with fewer than 800 during the 1950s. In March 1965, Johnson made the decision—with solid support from the American public—to send U.S. combat forces into battle in Vietnam.
By June, 82,000 combat troops were stationed in Vietnam, and military leaders were calling for 175,000 more by the end of 1965 to shore up the struggling South Vietnamese army. '

The similarities to Vietnam are unmistakable, except to those who don’t wish to see. All the objections to the comparison are the exact objections people made to Vietnam. US deaths will follow. Count on it. Congress needs to put a stop to this ill-advised, illegal and immoral debacle immediately. Ukraine is not worth it.

How stupid. The F-16 can't maneuver as well as other more worthwhile planes.
