House Democrats are pushing a new bill that would make it illegal for prosecutors to use violent lyrics by rap artists against them in court if they commit crimes, citing First Amendment protections.
On Thursday, Reps. Hank Johnson, D-Ga., and Jamaal Bowman, D-N.Y., announced they would reintroduce the Restoring Artistic Protection Act, or RAP Act. The bill would protect artists from the use of their lyrics against them in criminal and civil proceedings, a practice that's more common in cases involving hip-hop artists. (snip) House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., backed the measure in a press conference Friday.

So, gonna change my name to Lil’ OT and record some songs with all kinds of violent, repulsive, and criminal lyrics, then they can’t use any of that against me.

The fun has almost gone from checking off each day's headlines by ancient prophecies. Time to hunker in the bunker. Abbada Abbada Abbada, That's all folks, nearly. Right is now wrong. Up is now down, etc., ad infinitum.

Why don’t the leftist Democrats just propose a new law whereby no statement made by any Black suspect cannot be used against them as a matter of equity?

I’m glad hank johnson has succeeded in preventing Guam from capsizing and can now turn his mighty intellect to protecting rap writers.
Ain’t meritocracy great?

Really?
Laughable. By this standard a confession is exclusionary from trial evidence, because "First Amendment" you know... Is there anything liberals won't twist and pervert for their amusement?
What am I saying? Of course not!!

Of course not, they are "Artists", it would the same as using actual videos of killers who are independent Film "producers", no WAY anyone should ever do something like that, you might staunch the flow of of a future Maestro.

When you realize that the democrat party is willing and able to do whatever enables their agenda, you will understand the depth of their wickedness. This party is the party of chaos and confusion. They will go to battle for the degenerates who support them. The Republicans run scared when this illegitimate administration actually arrests political prisons on trumped up charges which we have seen on video that are patently false and still sit on their hands. We cannot win if we won’t engage on the field of battle. Democrats are eating our lunch not because they are right but because they are relentless and know republicans are weak. The country is going to be lost due to the lack of courage by the elected leaders in the Republican Party. Apathy will destroy us. Can you imagine just for a moment what the Founders would think of this sorry crop of men and women who cower at the thought of protecting and defending the Constitution of the United States?

I think the most basic underlying problem is our out of control MEDIA. Until we find a way to either use their power to OUR advantage or develop our own media we will never stand a chance to have our voices heard. What elected official wants be attacked with false accusations that will ruin their lives and careers? Even Trump couldn't successfully stand his ground against the media. They have unlimited power and Democrats know they can say and do the most outrageous things---because the sycophant media will always have their backs. So the MEDIA is the problem; it's not really a partisan politics issue. There is some good news, however. Younger people do not watch cable news. I certainly hope Tucker and Elon focus their efforts on capturing the Millennial market while it's still formative.

Who would have guessed? I don't think rappers are big-time political donors to the Left. Nor are their avid listeners big-time registered voters. So, why do these lefties bother? Is it some kind of perverted virtue signal? Or perversion signal?

Rap “artists” seem to get shot with some regularity. Maybe this will just increase the body count.

Like it or not, those lyrics are protected under the first amendment of the Constitution.

#14 Of course they are but so is the confession signed by a defendant after interrogation, or the radical threats of terrorists wrutten in their suicide manifestos. Ir the speeches political fringe groups make about regime change in America. Is it your argument that once any of these dangerous folks acts out one of their demonic fantasies that the content of their published and unpublished wirds has no place in any legal action against the.?
The constitution protects the speech but it does not absolve you of the consequences. Yelling fire in a theater is actually protected speech, what you will be arrested for is the reckless endangerment of others that was the consequence of that speech.
