Harry Belafonte, the actor, producer, singer and activist who made calypso music a national phenomenon with “Day-O” (The Banana Boat Song) and used his considerable stardom to draw attention to Martin Luther King Jr., civil rights issues and injustices around the world, has died. He was 96. Belafonte, recipient of the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 2014, died Tuesday of congestive heart failure at his Manhattan home on the Upper West Side with his wife, Pamela, by his side, longtime spokesman Ken Sunshine told The Hollywood Reporter.

As always with leftists he was happy to criticize but his solutions only ever included jetting around to exotic locations, meeting with important people, staying in sumptuous surroundings and jawing about the plight of the poor. He hated capitalism and income inequality so much that he and a business partner built an exclusive private residential community on arguably the nicest beach on the island of Bonair and sold property at highly inflated prices.

I read this and the movie Beetlejuice came to mind. Harrold G. Bellanfanti Junior was a man who was a one hit wonder Hollywooden headed racist hater. He supported all democrat causes, supported Castro and Chavez, and hated Republicans. Contrast his comments about the Obama Error with GWB's Administration. This person even when so far to basically call Black members of his cabinet Colon Powell and Condi Rice house negros. I won't even start with what he said about all things PDJT. The man was a hypocrite typical of Hollywood and lived a good long life in a country that he hated. May he find it hot down under and no I'm not talking about Australia.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates -- Iran's navy seized a Marshall Islands-flagged oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman on Thursday heading to the U.S. amid wider tensions over Tehran's nuclear program, the latest-such capture in a waterway crucial for global energy supplies. The U.S. Navy's Mideast-based 5th Fleet identified the vessel as the Advantage Sweet. Satellite tracking data for the vessel from MarineTraffic.com showed it in the Gulf of Oman, just north of Oman's capital, Muscat, on Thursday afternoon. It had just come from Kuwait and listed its destination as Houston. The Advantage Sweet issued a distress call at 1:15 p.m. while in international waters as Iran seized

WASHINGTON — Former Vice President Mike Pence appeared Thursday before the federal grand jury convened as part of the special counsel investigation into former President Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn his 2020 election loss and remain in power, according to a source familiar with the matter. The testimony is a significant development in the special counsel’s probe, as Pence could provide critical insights into Trump’s thinking in the days leading up to the attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6. The former vice president published a memoir and Wall Street Journal opinion article detailing several of his interactions with Trump, but some details were left vague.

No wonder President Biden needs a cheat sheet while taking questions from adults. The 80-year-old commander-in-chief had difficulty remembering his recent state visit to Ireland Thursday while being grilled by kids during a Take Your Child to Work event at the White House. “The last country I’ve traveled, I’m trying to think of the last one I was in,” Biden mused to the children of administration staffers and members of the media. “I’ve been to, met with 89 heads of state so far. So, uh, trying to think where was the last place I was; it’s hard to keep track.” “Ireland,” a child shouted out, jogging the president’s memory. “Yeah, you’re right, Ireland.

More than a third of likely Democrat primary voters believe someone other than President Joe Biden should be the Democrat presidential nominee, according to a poll partially conducted after he announced his reelection bid on Tuesday. The Emerson College Polling survey, taken April 24-25, shows that 65 percent of those who plan to vote in the Democrat primary want Biden as the nominee versus 35 percent who want “someone else.” When pitted against declared candidates, he sees a minor bump in support. In the present field of Biden, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and Marianne Williamson, the sitting president takes 70 percent of the support while 21 percent back Kennedy. Williamson

WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden just announced his re-election campaign, but he’s already on track to sacrifice New Hampshire’s famed primary to a fringe rival like Marianne Williamson or Robert Kennedy Jr. The unusual situation is one of Biden’s own making, thanks to the new primary calendar the Democratic National Committee ratified at his behest in February, which seeks to demote Iowa and New Hampshire and prohibits candidates from campaigning — or even putting their name on the ballot — in a state that jumps the line. The problem is that New Hampshire and Iowa, both of which Biden lost in 2020, plan to disregard the DNC

A push led by Democrats to give more time for states to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment, or ERA, failed on Thursday. The measure didn't win the support needed to clear a key 60-vote threshold, with the final tally being 51 to 47. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer changed his vote to no in order to bring it back again in the near future. "This issue is too important, and we are not giving up," Schumer said in brief remarks after the vote. Almost all Republicans voted against the legislation, though Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, lobbied for it in floor remarks before the vote.

In what looks to be a first for American politics, the Republican National Committee released an AI-generated campaign ad yesterday in response to Joe Biden announcing his reelection bid. Although the RNC disclosed that the ad was AI-generated, the corporate media still went into freakout mode. The 30-second ad, called “Beat Biden,” uses AI image generation to produce images of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, and images of some doom-laden hypothetical scenarios if the current occupant of the White House wins re-election. Fears about the potential of AI technology range from the mundane, like entertainment companies worried about copyright infringement, to confident predictions from AI experts

Former President Donald Trump has lost an emergency attempt to block former Vice President Mike Pence from testifying about their direct conversations, in the latest boost to a federal criminal investigation examining Trump's and others' actions after the 2020 election. This latest order from the DC Circuit Court of Appeals likely will usher in Pence's grand jury testimony quickly -- an unprecedented development in modern presidential history. Fox “parting ways” with Tucker Carlson was an insane move by any standards of business, given how popular his show was on the network.
