Authorities have upped charges against five people accused of burglarizing the USS Ling in Hackensack, who are now charged with flooding the historic submarine during two break-ins last summer, allegedly causing damage in the hundreds of thousands, according to the submarine’s trustees. An eight-count indictment from July 9 added counts of conspiracy and knowingly causing a flood, both second-degree crimes, to the burglary and criminal mischief charges the five so-called urban explorers faced for allegedly stealing artifacts from the WWII-era vessel. Police initially declined to charge the group with flooding the Ling with 10 feet of water during the alleged burglaries, citing insufficient evidence on when the flooding occurred.

Comments:

The five "Thénardiers" should be severely punished for disrespecting, such a "sacred" space where so many good men offered to sacrifice their lives for the good of all. Would make my day if each of these marauding trespassers spent a lifetime stamping out license plates in the state pen. If their violations, damages and theft of the USS Ling results in the changing the remainder of their lives, it may be a lesson to others to... ALL I REALLY NEED TO KNOW I LEARNED IN KINDERGARTEN All I really need to know about how to live and what to do and how to be I learned in kindergarten. Wisdom was not at the top of the graduate school mountain, but there in the sand pile at school. These are the things I learned: Share everything. Play fair. Don't hit people. Put things back where you found them. Clean up your own mess. Don't take things that aren't yours. Say you're sorry when you hurt somebody. Wash your hands before you eat. Flush. Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you. Live a balanced life - learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work every day some. Take a nap every afternoon. When you go out in the world, watch out for traffic, hold hands and stick together. Be aware of wonder. Remember the little seed in the Styrofoam cup: the roots go down and the plant goes up and nobody really knows how or why, but we are all like that. Goldfish and hamsters and white mice and even the little seed in the Styrofoam cup - they all die. So do we. And then remember the Dick-and-Jane books and the first word you learned - the biggest word of all - LOOK.

Great comments, OP. How pathetic do you have to be to dishonor the lives of those who make such sacrifices as our military routinely does to keep this country safe? Keelhauling these idiots in waters full of Great White Sharks would be an appropriate punishment.

Wednesday at a press conference on Capitol Hill, House Oversight Committee chairman Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) begged the American people to pay attention to the details in former special counsel Robert Mueller’s testimony before Congress. Cummings said, “Our speaker made it clear that we needed to paint a picture for America so that they could fully understand what is going on. This is a critical moment in our country’s history. Don’t be fooled. And it is a moment which people will be talking about and reading about 300, 400, 500 years from now. They are going to ask the question,

A tourist was savagely beaten, stomped and spit on by a gang of over a dozen youths at the entrance to the Washington Hilton Hotel around 1 a.m. on July 14, according to Washington, D.C. police who released hotel surveillance video showing the brutal unprovoked attack. The Hilton–located about twelve blocks north of the White House at 1919 Connecticut Avenue and T Street, NW–is a key part of official Washington, playing host to presidents, foreign dignitaries, business and political gatherings including the annual White House Correspondents’ Association dinner. It is also where President Ronald Reagan was shot by a would-be assassin in 1981.

The face of the global warming scare was once that of Al Gore. Now that face belongs to a 16-year-old girl who’s being treated as a prophetess. It’s hard to conceive of a world gone more mad. Greta Thunberg has been thrust into the spotlight, tagged as the child who will lead us away from our inevitable climate disaster — if only we let her. Adults hang on her words, regard her as an omniscient oracle, insist that we are in the presence of our savior. Thunberg’s “voice lets us know we’re in disavowal, and that we’d better wake up.

The most important thing Robert Mueller revealed today in his testimony before the House Judiciary and Intelligence Committees was that he didn’t really know that much about the work of the investigation that bears his name -- and that he is prone to senior moments with alarming frequency. That he could in no way have been the actual leader of a large team of high-powered lawyers is now obvious to everyone in cringe-worthy detail (snip) He was a BINO, a Boss In Name Only, or, colloquially, a front-man.

Actress Faye Dunaway has been fired from a Broadway-bound play in which she was the only cast member after slapping a member of the crew, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Dunaway was playing Katharine Hepburn in Tea at Five, a new production of the one-woman-show written by Matthew Lombardo and directed by John Tillinger. Tillinger also directed the show’s original 2002 production, which starred Kate Mulgrew. Dunaway reportedly lost her temper moments before the curtain was supposed to rise on a July 10 performance during the show’s Boston tryouts at the Huntington Theatre, first slapping crew members who were attempting to put her wig on, then verbally abusing the cast

First lady Melania Trump faced scrutiny on Wednesday for tweeting about Christmas while special counsel Robert Mueller was testifying in front of two House committees. "#Christmas planning has begun in the East Wing at the @WhiteHouse," Melania Trump tweeted. "I'm looking forward to sharing our final vision for this unique tradition in the coming months." Many questioned the timing of her tweet considering it came as Mueller was concluding his testimony in front of the House Judiciary Committee. He was testifying about the two-year long investigation that concluded that no member of the Trump campaign knowingly conspired with Russia to win the election.

Robert Mueller is a very impressive man. Until he opens his mouth. Or, perhaps, he is just a calcified, barnacle-crusted swamp creature long past his prime. If that’s the case and Democrats forced him out of his retirement home to just play along with their silly partisan fantasies, then they should all be rounded up and arrested for elder abuse. Either way, it’s no wonder why Mr. Mueller fought so hard against testifying publicly before Congress. But there he was: in the bright lights on national television sputtering, bumbling and doddering about some report these people kept talking about. Again and again, Mr. Mueller would wander off topic and his mouth would wander off

A 42-second clip posted to social media on Monday shows the girl, identified as 15-year-old Janise Harris, walking with a group of several other girls and at least one boy when one of the girls suddenly punched her from behind. The $25 million damages judgment plus the over $6.5 million attorney’s fees and expenses award, puts Oberlin College almost $32 million in debt to Gibson’s Bakery and its owners. Post-judgment interest in Ohio is 5%, which if my math is correct, on $32 million equals $1.6 million a year just in interest, or $4,384 per day. So that $32 million is going to keep growing as the inevitable appeal winds its way through the courts. Interest aside, Oberlin College doesn’t want Gibson’s Bakery to start collecting the judgment by seizing bank accounts, college equipment, and anything else they can get their hands on. Not surprisingly, Oberlin College
