The New York Times, that intrepid warrior for anything and everything that the Left is hysterical about, on Friday published a lengthy piece about a source of systemic racism that no one has ever noticed before: It seems that equestrian helmets are racist because they don’t accommodate the dreadlocks that some black horse riders wear. One black rider’s mother lamented: “Mostly everything in this sport isn’t designed for us.” Well, that’s got to change, and these Jackie Robinsons of the Coiffure, with the Times’ generous help, are leading the way to the Equestrian

To the victim class, somebody else has to do something because they are offended. To the merit class, this is an opportunity to take action, fill a need and make a buck. It's America. You decide which path to take.

How about cutting off those stinking, greasy, sweaty, flea-filled dreadlocks and acting civilized?

Some new grievance ever day. Lately ads have appeared regarding hair straighteners containing toxic chemicals. Of course, mostly targeting black women. The tone of the ad itself is "toxic". Make it stop!

Equestrian helmets, like most athletic headgear, are designed to protect the head/face and prevent traumatic brain injury, not accomodate the athlete's hairstyle choice (regardless of race).

wear a cowboy hat instead.
Seriously, motorcycle riders and construction/industrial workers that have mandated protective headgear as part of the "Job" might be a better source of Complaints, but...THEY realize, the job is not about Fashion, it is about gettin' it done, and safety. None of those endeavors, nor horse riding are conducive to miniskirts and high heels either. Still...perhaps she...or the reporter should have googled a bit 1sthttps://www.google.com/search?q=Claude+Alix+Bertrand&rlz=1CAXGER_enUS1033&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

Surely those dreadlocks and other extreme hairstyles are not natural but store bought additions to one's natural hair. So take off your wig when you mount your steed -- problem solved.

In Africa they must have genuine race appropriate horse riding helmets, and you would think that the African manufacturers there would import different models and sizes of those race appropriate horse riding helmets into the USA to service the huge African-American horse riding population?

It's about time for the gubbermint to rein in Big Helmet. In fact - - it behooves them to do so,
I don't mean to be a neighsayer - - but I'm dam sure Big Helmet is the mane problem. It's time for them to pony up some reparations - - some stakes for the race - - before the opportunity withers away.

If you have enough money to compete in equestrian events racism doesn't exist for you. Stop trying to create it. Everyone I know who competes in these events own their own horses, and the families are well off simply because the amount of money, training, and travel needed to compete would bankrupt anyone not making close to a million a year.

#8 nailed it. Having once been part of the equestrian community with a daughter who competed in hunter-jumper events, I can tell you that those velvet covered riding hats do come in different sizes.
But then, if that woman just got her daughter a larger hat, it would take away her opportunity to rant about systemic racism.

There are very few things designed for dreadlocks, except perhaps for oversized, knitted beret-shaped caps.
Hate to say it (and the blond, White boy son went through a dreadlock phase), but if I had a dog that looked like that, I'd get it treated for mange.

Equestrian sports actually are for the privileged, being very expensive. In addition to redesigning all the equipment for blacks, clearly our country should buy several horses and maintain stables for every black girl who wants to grow up riding horses as part of reparations. We privileged whites owe them this because long ago some white people had some black people as slaves (which they bought from black people, but never mind that.)

Let's unpack this a bit. First the whole sport is RACIST. What were the overseers and slave owners riding? HORSES!!!!. Second, what are the helmets for? . DUH.Protection. The tighter the better. Duh. Last the potential market is so minuscule who would go to the expense of a redesign? Sorry buttercup but the world does not conform to your whims. Want ride, make a sacrifice.

In a free society, people recognize where there is a need that is not being met and they design whatever to meet that need. That is how you make it from whiner into rich.
