A former NFL player triggered environmentalists on social media when he posted a picture of himself holding a dead mountain lion.
On Thursday, former Denver Broncos defensive lineman Derek Wolfe posted a picture of himself with a mountain lion he had killed in rural Colorado, KDVR-TV reported.
According to Wolfe’s post, the mountain lion was killing family pets in the area and was living under a resident’s porch, and Wolfe was called in to deal with it. The Super Bowl champion stalked the giant beast and managed to kill it with a bow.

Sometimes predators just need killing. Any coyote that I can get my sights on which is on my Kansas rural property is dead. So far, the few that I have seen have been moving fast, and gone before I could get to a rifle, even though they are kept pretty handy.
Killing pets is not OK. That is why I shoot coyotes, they kill pets, too - with the exeption of dogs big enough and strong enough to fight them effectively.
Give the guy a pat on the back for doing the right thing. And killing it with a bow....that's a good bit more difficult than with a gun.

I certainly won’t condemn the hunter. I am sorry that such a magnificent beast is dead.

Good job. You might have have save a kids face from being pulled off. Enjoyed all the usual triggered responses from the downstream snowflakes.

Although the article didn't mention this sizeable catamount's weight, a large "Tom" mountain lion (cougar) could weigh over 200 pounds, and is the fourth largest cat in the world, behind the Siberian tiger, the African lion, and the jaguar of the Americas, slightly larger than the African leopard. Apex predators easily capable of killing large prey, as well as adult humans, pets, and whatever else is available, mountain lions sometimes require culling. I'm sorry that a few anti-hunting fanatics decided to weigh in. Remember that Charles Manson taught his followers that animals, even rattlesnakes, were more valuable, more noble than people. These naysayers think the same way Manson did. Congratulations, idiots.
Derek Wolfe is a brave hunter to face prey that could kill him if he misses with his bow and arrow. The modern compound bow firing a two-, three-, or four-bladed 31" broadhead arrow at upwards of 350 feet per second is a devastating weapon--IMO far worse than a bullet--sometimes zipping straight through even 300 pound feral hogs, cutting through everything in its path. Very bloody. But archers shoot when targets are stationary, or nearly so. Alaskan brown bear hunters face thousand pound prey with bow and arrow, but there's always someone standing nearby with a BIG rifle, something like a .375 H&H or a .416 Rigby. I don't know what Wolfe's back up weapon was, but I'm glad he didn't need one.

This is real environmental conservation at its best. Known dangerous animals that are a threat to humans and their animals need to be controlled. Nice job Derek.

I'm neither for or against, BUT, who when called to deal with it, would bring a bow?

These self-righteous "environmentalists" don't accept that no matter where they live, it has been home to a predator of some kind.

Wolfe Kills Lion. Bronco Kills Lion. Bronco Wolfe Kills Lion. Lots of ways to go with this headline. Predator mountain lion dead. Good ending.

That is a YUUUUGE Cat...keep in mind that guy is 6'5" tall. The thing is as big as an african lion. I'd be interested in hearing more details about it's length, weight, age, if it had any physical/health issues that led it to begin preying on domestic animals instead of wild.

Well great! Wolfe reminds me of the feats of Gideon, Samson and even King David. (Also my precious niece who captured and killed a huge alligator.) Go Derek! Call me when coyotes start paying there fair share of taxes.

Too bad the lion couldn't have been captured and placed under the porch of some of those who complain about it's death.

While I would have assisted if asked, I would have used a different tool to resolve the situation.

Good to read that there are still people, like this guy, who have the same grit as those mountain men of the 1800’s.

#6, there are situations that have been dealt with effectively using a slingshot. . .
