Few know better what dangers are lurking out there than child crimes investigator Terra Avilla, 36, of the District Attorney’s Office in Susanville, California.(snip)She shared three important tips, which she follows raising her own children, which are as follows: Number One–No Sleepovers “I would not let them attend sleepovers,” she said. “This always draws a huge backlash, but after 11 p.m., there is nothing productive and good happening there.

Regarding Tip 5: “Teach your kids the correct names for their private parts,” she said in a video, because if something were to happen, investigators would have an easier time uncovering the truth if they knew the proper terms. ..." It's not just the investigators issue. Studies have shown that kids who can name their private parts by their precise clinical names scare the heck out of child molestors. Just knowing the clinical names and using them drives molesters completely away, it's like roach spray to them.

I measure LDotters’ interest in topics by their reaction to articles. Their lack of interest in this is appalling. Here is someone who has actually dealt with children against whom crimes were committed. She has a darned good feel for how parents can prevent these crimes happening to our children. No one interested?

My kids never complained when I picked them up at 10 pm at their friends' houses, they liked sleeping in their own bed and having their own breakfast. When they were teens, they did say they thought I'd been too strict. I asked if they'd ever been harmed or molested or felt threatened somewhere else, and when I got blank stares, I said 'I rest my case'.

We had a sleep over with about 6-8 12 year old girls. I stayed up until 6 am watching to make sure there were no shenanigans. It was funny. They didn’t think I could stay up all night to prevent them from putting shaving cream in the hand of one of them so they could tickle her face.

This is really good. I never would have thought about sleepovers, but this cop is correct: you may not worry about the other child’s parents, but how about the people THEY know?

Documents with classified markings were found inside an institution at which President Joe Biden worked before he took office, according to a lawyer for the president. The classified documents were discovered in a locked closet at the Penn Biden Center, Richard Sauber, the lawyer, told news outlets in a statement. The documents were discovered on Nov. 2, 2022, according to Sauber, days before the midterm election. Sauber did not disclose the finding until Jan. 9, 2023. White House lawyers alerted the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) on the day of the discovery and NARA took possession of the materials the following morning, Sauber said.

WASHINGTON—A top U.S. Capitol Police commander—recently retired Assistant Chief Yogananda Pittman—failed to respond to repeated urgent radio calls to evacuate the U.S. Congress on Jan. 6, 2021, causing the loss of precious time that might have prevented the shooting death of protester Ashli Babbitt, a former USCP commander said. The delay caused by the radio silence from the Capitol Police Command Center was so urgent that the 22-year veteran lieutenant located near the U.S. Senate chamber forged ahead with the evacuation anyway. He said he feared lawmakers would be injured or killed if he didn’t lead them to safety before the chamber doors were breached by protesters.

Free traders on the left and the right routinely excoriated Donald Trump for his willingness to implement tariffs on foreign imports. With the election of Joe Biden in 2020, many hoped the incoming president would reverse the former president’s “protectionist” trade policies and return to free trade orthodoxy. This, however, never happened. In fact, U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai, just two weeks ago, pushed back against claims made by the World Trade Organization that the Trump-era tariffs violated international trade rules: The WTO is on “very, very thin ice.” President Biden has, time and time again, skirted the issue of tariffs. Instead, he has opted to quietly continue his predecessor’s America-first

Jill Biden had three lesions removed on Wednesday during outpatient surgery at Walter Reed National Military Hospital - with at least two of them determined to be cancerous.  The first lady had gone in for a procedure to remove a lesion from above her right eye, which White House Dr. Kevin O'Connor said was confirmed to be basal cell carcinoma.  Doctors also excised a lesion from her left eyelid and sent it in for microscopic examination to determine if it was cancerous. They also found a lesion on her chest, which appeared to be basal cell carcinoma, and doctors extracted. They later confirmed it was that type of skin cancer.

Things just keep getting worse for Pete Buttigieg. After Southwest Airlines ruined many Americans’ holiday plans with mass cancelations, now a “glitch” is causing hundreds of flights to be canceled again. Fortunately, a massive snowstorm meant that I wasn’t going anywhere over the holidays, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t grind my gears that for the umpteenth time the guy whose job it is to do something isn’t doing anything. Much like the establishment GOP tends to do when confronted with its failings, Pete fell back on a strongly worded Twitter statement.
