The House voted Wednesday night to adjourn and reconvene on Thursday after GOP leader Kevin McCarthy failed in a sixth attempt for the speakership earlier in the day.
Republican representative Tom Cole made a motion to adjourn, which succeeded on a razor-thin margin with 216 Republicans favoring and 214 Democrats opposing. There was much hubbub as the votes rolled in, with some members grumbling, some cheering, and others dashing across the room as the process was about to end. Republican representatives Matt Gaetz, Lauren Boebert, Andy Biggs, and Brent Crane voted not to adjourn.
“I think it’s probably best to let people work through it some more.

McCarthy could have ended this by making concessions to conservatives who oppose him. But that ship may have sailed. He thinks he is owed the Speakership and even moved into the office prematurely, as if the vote didn't matter. His arrogance has probably destroyed the opportunity to compromise. His choices now are to withdraw, or seek help from the Democrats, and who knows what cost that might incur?

Congresspersons should vote IAW with their Oath of Office, their moral code, their integrity and what their constituents want. The twenty of so members of the HFC are attempting to do just that. They are not bought men.
RINOs are bought pols. Once bought, always bought (power/money/etc). I no longer waste time, effort or money on their likes, nor on their supporters.
I stand with the HFC 20.

2, they're doing their jobs. Holding the line against RINO trash. Maybe after a few more failures, McCathy (CA-RINO) will give up and we can get an American as Speaker.
Why should they vote for him? He's horrible. Is the process annoying? Should they put the wrong guy in because it's messy? Absolutely not. They're doing the exact right thing and I hope they continue to hold the anti-RINO pro-America line.

That's probably the right thing to do. Sit down, talk and get the boxing gloves on. Do it out of the public's eyes.

McCarthy is the guest who wouldn’t leave.
#2, the old boys club game seems to be over, so a lot is gained by airing this out.

I again ask- Who do the 20 have to put up against McCarthy? McCarthy bad, doesn’t cut it. Put up or shut up is what I have to ask the 20.

? Do you trust McCarthy. He's a RINO. He's a Deep Stater. He believes he is due the Speakership. But he can't win a majority. He can't see the writing on the wall because his navel glasses aren't working. Find someone who is acceptable to all of the Republicans. This is not a game of chicken. The choices brought by the Chaos Group are acceptable. But McCarthy cant get out of the way.

If it's change you want then the Chaos Caucus is trying to effect it. The bloated budget is already passed and signed and not one House bill will make it through the Senate, so the only arrow in the quiver is to blow up the democrat agenda, ensuring that everything that both the Senate Majority - and Minority - Leaders send over is DOA. That won't happen with McCarthy in charge.

McCarthy expected a secure House fueled by the red wave, so he took his speakership for granted and ignored those asking for changes to the Republican agenda. He ticked off a lot of people with his arrogance. That being said, the Dems could end this at any time by voting for a Republican.

What's frustrating is the pubbies had all of the month of December to work out their differences for Speaker. But it was apparently more important to ram through a 4,100-page $1.7 trillion omnibus bill that no one had read while loading it up with earmarks and more spending money for Z's Ukraine. Fighting Europe's war for them again just like we did twice before. And with not a dime for southern border security. Sad that only 20 pubbies got off their behinds and stood up.

I have no problem with this process. The people pushing this are making the House rules more sensible, and making things more workable in the long run. Even if McCarthy is finally seated, the rules will be much more sensible and sane, less totalitarian and iron fisted.
Let the process work itself out. I don't understand all the faux hysteria about "destroying" anything. This is how it is SUPPOSED to work, as far as I can tell.
