Finally, The Gibson’s Bakery Family
Has Been Paid By Oberlin College

Original Article

The last we check in on Gibson’s Bakery v. Oberlin College, the Ohio Supreme Court refused to hear Oberlin College’s appeal, ending the college’s fight to overturn the massive jury verdict.(Snip)We have received numerous inquiries from readers as to whether the Gibsons had been paid. We have confirmed with the Gibsons’ lawyers that the Gibsons have, indeed, finally been paid. The money was wired recently. That payment, while large, hardly compensates the family for the pain they went through for over 6 years, and the loss of David and Grandpa after the verdict but before the appeals were resolved.

Comments:

The article notes that the judgment was paid by the college out of legal compulsion, not good faith, and refused to apologize or concede it did anything wrong.

This is wonderful news! Prayers on behalf of the Gibson family have been answered. Thank you, dear Lord! Heartfelt thanks to Professor Jacobson for his personal dedication to the Gibson family’s tragic plight and to his proficient team in covering this news story. Also, thanks to Lee Plakas and Owen Rarric (Gibson family’s lead trial attorneys) and their exemplary team in this David versus Goliath litigation. In a Legal Insurrection article written by Matt Lamb of the “College Fix” published October 20, 2022, the bakery was hanging on at that point due to lost customers and money because of the “university-backed protests.” It is sincerely hoped that the Oberlin community will stop being intimidated by liberal college students and staff, be the “adults in the community” and resume patronizing the bakery for its excellent bakery items and confections in support of this long-suffering , hard-working, dignified family. Although wishful thinking, it would be a remarkable turnaround if Oberlin College students would consider what it would be like if their parents had been subjected to what the Gibson family endured and become “adults” in the student body by asking the college to resume its food service contract(s) with the Gibson Bakery as well as students making purchases at the bakery while helping to deter theft by other students that brought about this sordid tragedy. May the peace of our Lord be with the Gibson family.

I'm assuming that the check cleared. After the lawyers fees (who earned every cent), I would guess the Gibsons got something like 50-60% of the judgement.

The Gibson's also were paid interest on the settlement due to the college's endless delays. In a related story, Oberlin College has announced a tuition increase.

After reading the ins and outs of this case for at least 5+ years, I am pleased that the Gibsons were finally paid. Stories like this just make me detest liberals/leftists and the colleges they infest. It's getting more and more difficult to find a place that eductates students rather than inundates young people in leftist indoctrination. Maybe someday...

There is a link in the article to Gibsons’ online store. If you want to help them out, place an order. I’ve ordered their Buckeyes before and they’re wonderful - peanut butter balls coated in chocolate! Their confections and cookies would make great Christmas gifts!

Republican support for Donald Trump's presidential bid in 2024 has cratered, an exclusive USA TODAY/Suffolk University Poll finds, as the former president is beleaguered by midterm losses and courtroom setbacks. By 2-1, GOP and GOP-leaning voters now say they want Trump's policies but a different standard-bearer to carry them. While 31% want the former president to run, 61% prefer some other Republican nominee who would continue the policies Trump has pursued. They have a name in mind: Two-thirds of Republicans and those inclined to vote Republican want Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to run for president. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is fast emerging as a top 2024 presidential contender capable of beating both Donald Trump and President Joe Biden, an early election poll suggested on Tuesday.  The new USA Today/Suffolk University survey shows that a majority of GOP voters want Trump to pass the torch to the 44-year-old Republican governor - despite having declared his own third White House campaign last month.
