A reparations committee in California has suggested that descendants of slaves in the state could be compensated $223,200 each for 'housing discrimination'.
The nine-member Reparations Task Force was formed by California Governor Gavin Newsom as part of the country's largest ever effort to address reparations for slavery.
A focus of the California task force has been 'housing discrimination' - it has been estimated that it would cost around $569billion to compensate the 2.5 million Black Californians for setbacks between 1933 and 1977, according to the New York Times.
That is more than California's $512.8billion expenditure in 2021 - which included funding for schools, hospitals, universities, highways, policing and corrections.

Enough already. Slavery ended in this country 160 years ago. It's still ongoing in Africa and some Middle Eastern countries that we know of and likely more we don't know of. We have to get over this slavery, racism mentality. It's destroying us.

Great idea, but not one dime from the Federal treasury. For anything. California can't shortchange it's current obligations to pay for it and then come begging for fed tax dollars neither.

This is the biggest offering of voter candy I’ve ever heard of in my life. He’s running for president. With this kind of thing being pushed he will win even without the election being rigged.

Not to be outdone by Uncle Joe's scourging the middle class to pay for others' personal debts willingly incurred, Greasy-Locks Surfer-Boy now wants to drain middle-class pockets to hand out vote bribes to people who are at least 8 generations removed from experiencing that terrible situation (except perhaps for the more modern vestiges of the mindset that the Democrat Party has historically done its very worst to hang onto).
How much do we suppose this will tack onto our CA tax bills going forward, and how is this all to be vetted and metered out to the "worthy"? And why leave out the Asians and Irish, for example, who suffered discrimination and abuse to take advantage of their physical labor? And factory and mining town captive laborers of all ethnic groups who were de facto enslaved for company profits in days past?
A lot of us have grievances in our personal or family pasts that could be brought forth for reparations, if anyone was really interested in a "payback" with "equity" and "fairness"...and if the actual perpetrators still lived and held assets that could be recovered.. But it's not about that.
This is about trying to obscure the fact that, like the basic forces and truths of nature, divisive issues such as race, class and economic discrimination, and brutal past histories of abuse, oppression and slavery have been part of the human experience for tens of centuries... and that, for the last century and a half, at least, the world's MOST VICIOUS VILLAINS in genocide, social abuse and upheaval have been those on the POLITICAL LEFT.
Now, at this moment in time, from their vantage point of stolen and grifted political and cultural power, they endeavor to bury the evidence of their treachery, envelop and mire all of us in their crimes and and deception, and extract the last measure of our freedom to frame their monument to themselves above us.
While Uncle Diapers is busily breaking the economic back of American citizens, doling out taxpayer money to compensate nations 5000 miles away for damage largely done by the ravages of time and forces of nature, why don't we also go after the African governments and ruling classes to compensate the great-great-great-great-great.... grand-descendants of their fellow indigenous Africans on whom THEY waged war, captured and sold into the world slave trade, forcing the unfortunates to eventually end up here as citizens in this TERRIBLE North American continent to live...
I object to this guilt tripping, societal reparation mentality that these Left-wing goons who fancy themselves to be our betters are trying to drop on our backs. It is a ruinous distraction from the fact that they are INCOMPETENT at understanding our Nation or at running a government, or at contemplating or creating ANYTHING useful to humankind. They only know how to lie, plot, deal, cheat and steal OTHER PEOPLE'S hard work and treasure, and take the greatest pleasure in watching others break down and participate and wallow in their destruction and dissipation.
I paid for my own schooling, and, in spite of the hard work, occasional injury or insult, and now the gathering infirmities of my age, I have done reasonably well for myself and family in my 70 years. The opportunity to do the same under a just government and a climate of personal freedom, is ALL that this nation really owes its citizens.
By the same token, neither my family nor my ancestors took part in the American slave culture, having been largely in the labor class for generations (farmers, oil field workers, etc.), and I resent my toil and sweat, and that of my forebears, being extorted by criminals to pay for an authoritarian Leftist's wet dream.

This likely sunk his hopes of ever being elected president. How crazy is this notion. Why does he have state money to even support a committee on this issue. No wonder the state is bankrupt. More buying votes to support bad policy! Good policy sells itself!

If undertaken, this waste of cash will eventually bankrupt California. The state will not be able to fund its pension plans. You know what happens then, don't you? California goes begging to Uncle Sugar. And the Congressional dems will do all in their power to bail out the state from its indebtedness.

Newsom can afford it. The people of California can’t. That’s what socialism is: You eventually run out of other people’s money, especially when those taxpayers and confiscate-ees move to other States where they won’t be subject to such theft. Gavin wants to break CA so he can demand a bail-out to do even more damage the next round of confiscation.
Reparations cause yet more division. When is slavery over? Do you see Jews demanding reparations and they had it a good deal worse than the slaves going all the way back to biblical times until today.
Do you see Armenians demanding reparations?
Japanese-Americans?
There is no legitimate reason that black people in America should be treated any differently from anyone else, yet the collective guilt of white liberals and the hate coming from black racists keeps this racial pot stirred. It’s criminal.

How will this be determined? Will Ancestry DNA results count? I have several black cousins that I didn't know about. Most of them are low percentage blacks, most white. Do they get the money?
Has anyone thought this through?

If they're saying this is related to housing discrimination then there should not be any requirement of being a slave descendant. It should apply to anyone who is not white. It's only money.

Every person in the world has slavery somewhere in his past even if it was a thousand or more years ago. If they were part of the ruling class at some point they were eventually conquered and became slaves. Black folks do not have the exclusive on that experience. Send me a check, Gavin, and I'll vote for you. (in your dreams)

Not surprised Newsom would jump down this rabbit hole. Blacks will form a 10 mile line trying to get in on this. How, exactly, are they going to prove they are the descendants of slaves? Will it really matter? Of course he wants to run for President so he can inflict his idiotic liberal policies on the rest of us. He could not care less about Black people. This is a vote buyer.

I’m sure that in general, California voters will be pleased as punch to pay for Gavin Newsom’s reparation and Black vote buying scheme! There is little doubt that Newsom with attempt to push similar vote buying schemes across the entire USA during the run up to the 2024 general election. It will be interesting!
