Mooney's mom is a Cuban refugee who fled ahead of being imprisoned after the Bay of Pigs. He is a Maryland refugee having served as that state's Republican chairman. But he became part of the Republican exodus from DC and Maryland to West Virginia's Eastern Panhandle, They helped flip the deeply blue state red.(snip) Mooney persevered. He just won his fifth term. In the 2020 election, as he did in 2016, Trump carried all 55 counties in West Virginia, and about 68% of the total statewide vote. Manchin squeaked into office with 49% of the vote on a three way contest. Also, West Virginia runs honest elections and requires voter ID. Oh, and Manchin voted to impeach Trump after he was no longer president. The outcome will clearly favor Mooney.

Yep! I think the writing is on the Wall for Manchin. Either he jumps Ship and joins the Republicans (Which will change the power the Democrat have), or he is going to lose in his next election. He pretended to be a Democrat, but when it came right down to it, he didn't follow through and carry out the Left's Mantra, so he can't count on them giving him another six years! Will be interesting to watch how he handles this!!

If he does switch, he better do it before the GA runoff, else it may mean nothing.

Many Democrats this year hoped to break the tie in the U.S. Senate by winning a number of vulnerable GOP-held seats in states like Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin that had voted for Donald Trump in 2016 and 2020. While the latter two voted for Joe Biden by narrow margins in 2020, the Buckeye State went for Trump by 8 percentage points. Still, Representative Tim Ryan from the 13th Congressional District in northeastern Ohio’s Mahoning Valley figured it was his turn. One reason may have been the state GOP’s redistricting, which resulted in the dismembering of his district such that it lost Democratic voters from Akron and surrounding Summit County.

Federal agents and prosecutors have come to believe former president Donald Trump’s motive for allegedly taking and keeping classified documents was largely his ego and a desire to hold on to the materials as trophies or mementos, according to people familiar with the matter. (snip) That review has not found any apparent business advantage to the types of classified information in Trump’s possession,(snip[) FBI interviews with witnesses so far, they said, also do not point to any nefarious effort by Trump to leverage, sell or use the government secrets. Instead, the former president seemed motivated by a more basic desire not to give up what he believed was his property,

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich says that former President Donald Trump would have a good shot in his third presidential bid if he puts his focus on the future rather than the past. The former president, after months of hinting at a 2024 run, formally announced his bid on Nov. 15 in a prime-time speech at his Mar-a-Lago home in Florida, outlining a vision for “America’s comeback” that includes stronger foreign policy, lower taxes, fewer regulations, and supply chain independence. Hobbs’s lead of 19,382 narrowed to 17,249, according to unofficial results from the office of Hobbs, a Democrat, based on new reports from Maricopa County and other jurisdictions. The comic relief in politics arrived last night as the editors of National Review declared they oppose President Donald John Trump's second attempt at re-election. If Republicans don't nominate him in 2024, it will not be because of anything NR wrote. It will be because people realize that despite the unfairness of it all, Trump cannot win because the media succeeded in making him too toxic for anyone outside of MAGA voters. In the final days of a Republican controlled Pennsylvania House, the Judiciary Committee voted along party lines Tuesday to move two impeachment articles against Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner to the full House, which is expected to vote on it Wednesday. The articles blame Krasner’s leadership in the district attorney’s office (DAO) as being a direct cause of increasing Philadelphia crime and accuse him of obstructing the impeachment investigation by not sufficiently complying with a subpoena from the Select Committee on Restoring Law and Order. That select committee released a report of its investigation on Oct. 24 and, although it did not recommend impeachment, it offered a grim look at Philadelphia’s crime.

If Republicans eke out a win in the House of Representatives—which now seems likely—GOP leaders have promised to investigate numerous government scandals, including the irredeemably corrupt Federal Bureau of Investigation. One path of inquiry is how the bureau manufactures data to promote the phony narrative that “domestic violent extremists,” i.e., supporters of Donald Trump, pose a security threat to the country. Whistleblowers recently disclosed how the FBI is “misrepresenting the scale of domestic violent extremism nationwide by categorizing January 6th-related investigations as organic cases stemming from local field offices, instead of all related to one single incident,” according to a report by GOP members of the House Judiciary Committee.

Faced with questions about his ability to lead after the midterm election debacle, a defiant Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell deflected blame from his own culpability in the Democrats retaining control of the upper chamber and instead blamed it on public dissatisfaction with MAGA candidates. The embattled McConnell spoke to reporters on Tuesday, defending his dismal performance and the refusal to adequately fund candidates who were endorsed by former and perhaps future President Donald J. Trump such as Blake Masters in Arizona, instead spending money to support RINO Lisa Murkowski in Alaska against her America first opponent, also a Republican.
