Supreme Court Blocks Congress From Getting
Trump’s Tax Returns

Original Article

The U.S. Supreme Court on Nov. 1 blocked Congress from obtaining former President Donald Trump’s tax returns. Chief Justice John Roberts, a George W. Bush appointee, stayed an appeals court order that had ruled a congressional panel could gain access to the documents. Trump filed an emergency application on Monday to the Supreme Court, asking it to halt the order. Roberts’ stay is temporary, pending further developments in the case. Rep. Richard Neal (D-Mass.), chairman of the House Committee on Ways and Means, has for years been trying to obtain Trump’s returns, asserting that they are necessary as the panel considers possibly updating how audits of presidents are done.

Comments:

PDJT contends that they just want to release them to the public. Sounds far more plausible.

Okay. Then release tax returns of every politician and members of their family. If you want to go on a hunting expedition, well, then let's all go on a hunting expedition. I suspect the capital gains transactions of various Democrat (and some Republican) officials might be interesting, especially when the trades are compared to the actions of Congress at the same time. As Emily Litella (Gilda Radner) used to say on Saturday Night Live (when it was funny), "Never Mind."

One would think this is a huge separation of powers issue. If Congress can pass laws saying it can et any information it wants then the Executive branch is ruled by Congress and not separate and equal. But Chief Just-Us Roberts might actually see that this very issue can be used against him and other judges. Not motivates following the Constitution quite like being subject to abuses of the constitution.

This unending badgering and persecution of President Trump needs to end. And the Supreme Court is exactly the place to make it end. The President is NOT subordinate to Congress, and the Congress is NOT a Super-Judiciary. Therefore they should not have any subpoena power over him or over any of his subordinates acting as confidential advisors to him in his capacity as President of the United States.

After next Tuesday, depending on the midterm election result, the leftist Democrats may well loose the go-power to keep reaching for Trump’s business and personal tax returns. As other posters have advised, Trump gets audited just about every year by the IRS, and you can bet that the IRS people who have audited Trump’s tax returns are not rookies but are tax experts who would have figured out if Trump, through his accountants, and lawyers, had filed improper tax returns.

I have never considered that my patronage of a business, or the lack thereof, would make or break the enterprise. So, I find it amusing that D-list celebrities believe their threats to leave Twitter could make any difference when it comes to the company’s bottom line. This week, stars who haven’t been relevant in years, such as Toni Braxton and Sara Bareilles, announced that they would leave Twitter in the wake of its purchase by SpaceX founder Elon Musk. Braxton, who last had a Billboard 100 hit in the 1990s, said she was leaving because she saw “hate speech” on the platform since the acquisition late last week. Bareilles, who I

Next week, the Supreme Court will have a chance to save the free market economy from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Even as the court reins in the administrative state, the FTC is advancing new rules and novel theories that stretch the limits of its mandate. Under its progressive chair, Lina Khan, the FTC wants to cancel the gig economy, cripple the ad-supported internet, and address racial justice, rather than simply protect consumers. In Axon Enterprise v. FTC, the court could take a big step toward cabining the FTC within its statutory and constitutional authority. Axon itself involves a narrow procedural question of whether someone can raise certain constitutional challenges to

A dozen years ago, Democrats faced a dilemma. A long-term care entitlement known as the CLASS Act that they added to what became Obamacare faced serious solvency concerns. But after Scott Brown, R-Mass., won a shock Senate victory for Republicans in a January 2010 special election, ending Democrats’ filibuster-proof majority, Democrats didn’t have the votes to alter the CLASS Act or remove it from Obamacare. What did Democrats do? The Obama administration suppressed the internal documents showing that the CLASS Act wouldn’t work. (I and Republican staff colleagues later obtained these documents, compiling them into a report.) Democrats also convinced many in the disability industry to support Obamacare,
