Utah emerges as wild card in battle for
the Senate

The Utah Senate race between conservative Republican Sen. Mike Lee and Independent Evan McMullin has emerged as a potential wild card in the battle for the Senate. Recent polls show the race is close, with McMullin trailing Lee by only a few points in a state where Republican victories are usually all but guaranteed. Lee, a conservative who supported then-President Trump’s effort to challenge the 2020 election results on Jan. 6, is a star among many members of Utah’s Republican base, but his unpopularity among moderates and Democrats has driven his approval rating down to the low 40s.

Comments:

I tend to think this article represents a pathetic dream of the leftists hoping to keep the Democrats in charge of the Senate. As one who was born and raised in Utah I have to admit that the state is not as conservative as many people believe. Yes, it usually does vote Republican but in 2016 Donald Trump received only 45% of the vote, Clinton received 27% while spoiler McMullin received 21%. The state seems to prefer weak Republicans like Romney rather than fighters like Trump. It is outrageous that Romney is doing his best to sabotage Mike Lee's reelection.

Isn’t McMuffinhead still “unmarried “ and well into his forties? I thought Mormons frowned on that sort of thing. I guess he must be very “ discrete” about it.

Mitt "Pierre Delecto" Romney remains mum and cherishes his standing in the RINO Hall of Fame. Pierre knows that Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski view him as a savior. BTW, all 3 voted to confirm Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro "Monster" Mayorkas.

The Hill article forgets to mention the financial support McMullen is getting from Romney’s family.

In the last 50 years Utah has elected nothing but Republican senators. I doubt the trend will change this year. McMuffin's claim be would not caucus with either party is laughable. He would never have any clout.

That Senate seat depends on what the Mormon church tells its members. That's how Pierre Delecto was elected.

#1, McMullin married a year ago to a widow with 5 children. Instant family, very photogenic. You are correct that it is unusual to say the least to be single that long when a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. In my personal experience, there is usually a reason, especially when you are talking about a guy. There can be exceptions of course. He is ex-CIA, that is a problem for me. Can you ever trust a former spook? And I didn’t like the way he calculatingly tried to spoil Utah for Trump during the election. C’mon, I’m not stupid. The only reason he had a presidential bid was to split the Utah vote. Was Romney money behind that too?

Who? It goes from "wild card" in the headline to "potential wild card" in the first paragraph. Keep your speculation to yourself. I'm a potential wild card for the Pittsburgh Steelers, well maybe I can get a job doing laundry in the locker room.

Mike Lee does have the reputation among conservative Utahns of a man with a big brain who refuses to put it to work dethroning Democrats. He seems to think he deserves reelection on the promise of not voting for stupid Democrat ideas. That's not enough to save our country.

President Biden is expected to pledge during a Tuesday night speech that his top legislative priority after the midterms will be codifying a national right to abortion, should the Democratic Party retain control of the House and expand its Senate footprint. During his remarks at the Howard Theater in Washington, D.C. Tuesday night, Biden is expected to pledge that the first bill he will send to legislators in a new Democratic Congress will codify Roe v. Wade, the New York Times first reported. The move is intended to galvanize his support among Democratic and independent women as his polling numbers slump ahead of November’s midterm elections. Actor George Clooney, who’s smeared conservatives for years, claims so-called Republican cruelty is damaging American democracy. Doing His best Dark Brandon impersonation with CNN’s low-rated Chris Wallace on his HBO Max show, Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace?, the Ticket to Paradise star told the former Fox News host that Republicans are responsible for a “coarsening of America.” Clooney used the recent transfers of illegal aliens by Republican governors to liberal areas of the country as his prime example. Clooney said America is going down the wrong path, especially with its political discourse. He lamented how “everyone jumps up and down and cheers

A jury on Tuesday found Russian national Igor Danchenko, the primary sub-source of the anti-Trump dossier, not guilty on all four counts of making false statements to the FBI. The charges had been brought by Special Counsel John Durham, who is investigating the origins of the FBI's original Trump-Russia investigation. The Danchenko trial is the second out of Durham's years-long investigation, and the second time a jury delivered an acquittal. Former Clinton campaign attorney Michael Sussmann was found not guilty of making false statements to the FBI in June.

With Democrats facing a "shellacking" in November, President Obama is out and about, campaigning for Democrats, in various ways. He made some headlines with this: Former President Barack Obama thinks Democrats can be a bit of a “buzzkill,” too easily offended over accidental slights and the complicated scenarios of modern life, he said in a podcast interview late last week. “How does politics even – how is it even relevant to the things that I care most deeply about? Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) said Tuesday that the Jan. 6 committee's subpoena of former President Donald Trump is imminent. Speaking at a forum at Harvard University, Cheney stressed the subpoena, which the House select committee approved unanimously last week, is for Trump's testimony and for documents related to events surrounding the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. "So we'll be issuing a subpoena shortly, both for his testimony under oath as well as for documents. And we'll take whatever next steps we have to take assuming that he will fulfill his legal obligation and honor the subpoena, but if that doesn't happen, we'll take the steps after that," Cheney said.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said Tuesday on MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports” that she dismissed a poll saying Americans’ top concerns going into the November midterm that Americans are most concerned about inflation and crime. Mitchell said, “Let’s talk about rising inflation concerns along with crime, giving momentum, new momentum to Republicans after the Democrats were closing the gap, the historic gap. After the Supreme Court ruling, there was huge outrage. That has seemed to subside, at least among overriding concerns. Despite all the legislative accomplishments, and I want to cite them, I want to say it’s been an extraordinary session.

I’ll bet they are. The problem for Democrats, however, won’t just revolve around their deeply unpopular Demagogue in Chief and the albatross he’s hung around their necks. After the smoke from the midterm referendum on Joe Biden clears, the party will have the same problem they had in 2020, 2016, and every midterm in the past dozen years except 2018. Keep that in mind when reading The Hill’s report on “contingency plans” already being considered even before the election results come in: Democrats behind the scenes are already talking about and making contingency plans for 2024 in case President Biden decides not to seek a second term, moves expected to intensify
