With news that Israeli intelligence has detected an “irregular presence” of nuclear-capable Russian bombers near Finland and retired general David Petraeus casually saying NATO would likely sink Vladimir Putin’s Black Sea fleet if Russia used a tactical nuclear weapon in Ukraine, it’s perhaps time for a few questions:
First, can we discuss a situation that could very well result in thermonuclear war — and the end of life as we know it — intelligently and rationally? Or must all questions about our Dr. Strangelove policy be met with childish name-calling (e.g., “stooge of Putin!”) designed to silence debate?

The problem is NATO; it is no longer a bulwark against war, it has become an instigator.
It's time for Europe to organize itself around a new entity, one that will reflect it's current and broader strategic and economic conditions.
Disband it and end this mess.

The US is the locomotive of the World Economic order and produces 27% of the World's GDP. Does Russia do that?

Unreal. Now Putin's propaganda gets full play on "conservative" outlets.
I truly never imagined that a Communist, evil former KGB thug, dictator of Russia, after invading a neighboring country could be cast as a sympathetic character. Things truly have gone entirely off the rails, and lots of commenters here will cheer on this sort of insanity, I'm sure.

I do not presume to have the knowledge base to fully take in the situation. So i form tentative opinions and seek reasoned push back.
The argument that Ukraine is putin’s monroe doctrine makes sense. If it does then he either folds, or fights now or later. No one has ever explained putin’s megalomaniacal take over of europe plans to me; the observations in this article seem far more plausible.
Can someone explain why Ukraine must be in NATO at all costs? How does that help the US? Biden has never made the case other than “countries can do what they want,” as if nato is a country club.
And the lack of debate is striking. We seem to be sleep walking as a country preoccupied with various fetishises such as gender identity.
I hope someone somewhere is taking this more seriously than just appropriating money and intoning “putin hitler.”
Or does everyone know that one side or the other will back off without taking the fateful step?
Our leaders seem terrifyingly unserious and incompetent.

#3 - Where has Putin been "cast as a sympathetic character?" I missed that part. What Duke and other are saying is that he is dangerous, and if we accept he is a Hitler-esque madman, he goes beyond being dangerous to Ukrainians, but to the entire world. Even a small nuclear "campfire", far short of a global conflagration, cannot be overlooked by the US, UK and NATO. Now, what are they going to do in response? Or, are you of the opinion that Putin maintains the rationality not to do this regardless of his threats and looming defeat? (It is highly unlikely that Putin survives defeat.)
At this point the US and NATO are the lifeline that has not been extended. And, as an ardent booster of the Ukrainian cause, I can only conclude you support that diplomatic inaction for the purpose of extending the military conflict to some bitter end.
The US, regardless of NATO, had NO NATIONAL INTEREST at stake in Ukraine. Another nation's "freedom" is NOT a US national interest. It is an excuse used many times, from Vietnam to Afghanistan. We've even restored monarchs to thrones in recent years, not in the cause of freedom but oil, mainly to Europe. Perhaps you've read Washington's Farewell Address. Perhaps not. But what did he know 230 years ago anyways? It is past time for Europe to shoulder its own defense, even against the Russians. They have the resources, just not the need or the will.

American groups, politicians, and intelligence has been playing in Russia's back yard for some time, poking the bear. I wonder how long the U.S. would tolerate such behavior in Mexico or Canada. There are a lot of parties at fault for this war, and who have gotten themselves cornered with no way out to save their faces from their errors. We need new leadership to bring forward proposals to bring this war to an end, not the Lindsey Graham type that wants to nuke Russia, or the Mitch McConnell and Pelosi types that wants to fund the government of Ukraine, and the war. We need someone other than Biden to do what it takes to bring about peace, not nuclear war. No nation can prosper with endless wars. It is ruining America, the EU, Russia, China, and the rest of the world. All of them are fools we are best rid of.
