Representative Adam Schiff (D-CA) said Monday on MSNBC’s “Deadline” that former President Donald Trump was the first president of the United States “without character.” Schiff said, “We have seen a pattern with Donald Trump, and that is when he’s not held accountable. He goes on to commit worse misconduct. He wasn’t held accountable for his Russia misconduct that led to Ukraine. He wasn’t held accountable for the worst misconduct in Ukraine that led to a literal attack on our democracy on January 6.” He continued, “If he’s not held accountable and ever given an opportunity to exercise power again, we can expect things that are worst still.

Wisconsin Senate Democrat candidate Mandela Barnes claimed last July that national parks “weren’t made for the enjoyment of people who weren’t white.”
Speaking on the “Black Oxygen” podcast, Barnes suggested national parks are a part of the systemically racist fabric of America because the “parks are on land that was indigenous.”
“It’s important to create more welcoming spaces because things haven’t always felt welcome,” he said. “And that’s historical, just that perspective, given the fact that national parks weren’t made for the enjoyment of people who weren’t white. National parks are on land that was indigenous.”

Uvalde school district officials fired embattled Police Chief Pete Arredondo three months after the Robb Elementary School shooting that left 19 students and two teachers dead. The district has not fired any other staff or officials who ignored school safety protocols and maintenance requests that could have prevented the shooting.
The Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees fired Arredondo at the end of a nine-minute hearing. The chief and his attorney declined to attend the meeting and instead, offered a 17-page written response, KENS CBS5 reported.
Israel Prime Minister Yair Lapid’s request to hold an emergency telephone conversation with U.S. President Joe Biden to discuss the nascent nuclear deal with Iran has been rebuffed with the excuse that the American president “is on vacation,” Israeli media reported on Wednesday.
According to Israel’s Channel 13, Lapid sought to speak with Biden in an attempt to prevent a return to the 2015 JCPOA nuclear pact but U.S. officials denied the request, informing Lapid Biden “is on vacation.”
The two will eventually hold the call, the report said.

I think it’s safe to say that we’ve all seen a lot of craven politicians in our time. Unfortunately, there are a lot out there — those who will do or say anything to get and hold power.
But even when he was a Republican, Charlie Crist — the character who just won the Democratic primary in Florida for the gubernatorial race — was one of a kind. I think it’s safe to say that he has a very high opinion of himself, not based on much. But he also seems to know when to open his mouth and insert his foot.

Once in a while, we hear a story in the news about an asteroid that’s going to fly close to the Earth. It’s always no threat to the planet, but with all the objects flying around in space, something is bound to find its way onto a collision course with Earth at some point.
Since we don’t want a scenario like that in the films Deep Impact and Armageddon, NASA has been working on technology that will allow it to neutralize the threat without sending Bruce Willis or Robert Duvall into space.
NASA is conducting a test of its planetary defense system on Sept. 26.
A specially appointed prosecutor dropped charges Tuesday, including murder, against Atlanta, Georgia, police officers Garrett Rolfe and Devin Brosnan, who shot and killed Rayshard Brooks in a June 2020 incident that led to Black Lives Matter riots.
Brooks, 27, a black man, had fallen asleep in his vehicle in a Wendy’s drive-thru and was questioned by the officers, who had been called to the scene. After speaking with the officers, he resisted arrest and stole an officer’s Taser, firing it at them. Rolfe fired at Brooks, who was killed.
A mob then arrived and burned the Wendy’s. Democrats, including failed Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams, said the shooting was “murder.”

According to Just The News, some voters in Baltimore received their mail-in ballots earlier this month. The bad news is that those ballots were for the 2020 election. On Aug. 5, 2022, a tray of undelivered ballots was discovered. To the post office’s credit, they were delivered to the homes in Southeast Baltimore on Aug. 6. Better late than… never?
Local TV station WMAR reached out to the Postal Service and got a response from a spokesperson acknowledging the SNAFU and stating in part:

After watchdogs failed for months to obtain his financial disclosures, Fauci’s 2020 portfolio was obtained and published by Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KS) on January 14. Fauci’s disclosures were obtained by Marshall after Fauci called the senator a “moron” on a hot mic at a Senate hearing.
“Maybe the senator has a point,” Fauci said about the hidden disclosures. “Maybe my financial investments, though disclosed and available, should be much easier to see.”
As the highest paid federal employee of the federal government, Fauci must publicly disclose financial statements.

In a major upset victory for President Joe Biden's party, New York Democratic official Pat Ryan narrowly beat Republican Marc Molinaro in a race that remained in a dead heat nearly until midnight on Wednesday.
