In a major upset victory for President Joe Biden's party, New York Democratic official Pat Ryan narrowly beat Republican Marc Molinaro in a race that remained in a dead heat nearly until midnight on Wednesday.
Multiple outlets including the New York Times and NBC News called the race for Ryan with more than 95 percent of the votes counted - and less than 3,000 votes between the two candidates.
Ryan will now serve the remainder of former Democrat Rep. Antonio Delgado's term, until the end of the year.

Dems outnumber Repubs by 4 million registered voters in NY.
So, why is this such a big surprise?

How many boxes of 'missing' ballots were found in a Dem operative's car?
Sounds like they counted properly this time. 2016 will never happen again. They gave senile basement hiding old Joe too many.

Build the wall around NY and do not let ANY of them move to my state. You just sit there and suffer-But you can have an abortion. Maybe you will all ABORT yourselves.

Democrats have a 10% advantage over Republicans in NY state, (Cooks PVI D+10). Dems won this by 2.3%. That 7.7% variance towards the GOP. That level of variance would flip Conn, RI, NJ, Del, VA, Ill, Col, NM, and Or.

How is this an “upset” victory or a bellweather of anything. It was a special election to fill a seat held by a Democrat. LOL

Marc Molinaro explained why he didn't vote for Trump and Trump didn't endorse Molinaro. If we had a candidate that Trump would have endorsed, they would have easily gotten that extra 3,000 votes. Marc Molinaro, with his Associate of Science degree in Humanities and Social Sciences from a Community College isn't the kind of guy I'd trust. But he was the best they had left in NY since anyone smarter left years ago.

If this were an election in Florida or Texas, or some other red state, this would be considered an upset. However, this was in New York. That a demoslut narrowly defeated a Republican candidate in that state shouldn't be considered a huge victory for demosluts or Biteme. It should however be considered as a defeat. Since the demoslut won by less than 3000 votes in a purely blue state.

This is when the "champ" barely wins on points. No real knockout or even a TKO. I don't think squeaking one out against a weak, unsupported opponent in NY is a "good sign". I would not want to be running as a Democrat in most areas of the country outside of NY or CA.

I am frankly surprised there are any Republican representatives left in New York. Someday there won't be any. New York Democrats have probably layed the groundwork to steal any election they want in their state. Don't know if that happened in this case but wouldn't rule it out.

Had another thought.
The fine city of New York has been complaining about all those Texas illegals being shipped in. What are the odds that New York's governor will have them shipped to red areas upstate in an attempt to turn them blue? Especially in return for state and federal aid. They already do that with NYC convicts and their families. Illegal? Details! Details!
Happy I left New York.

"Major upset" Ha ha. Elizabeth Elkind is one of the Daily Mail's young Democrat "politics reporters" in NYC (https://www.linkedin.com/in/elizabeth-elkind). She has a "Digital Communications" B.A. from Baruch College. She appears well equipped to provide us with the trendiest of Democrat party-line angles on the news.

Major upset? A Dem succeeding a Dem in Congress...by a thin margin? BTW: Below the article is this nugget: "Two Democratic incumbents in New York were ousted from the US House after redistricting shuffled congressional districts". There's "hope", right?

This district was owned by Democrat Delgato who would have won by a huge, double-digit margin in Nov. His Republican opponent, Molinaro, was a guy with no experience and little support or connection within the party. When Delgato was moved up to Lt. Governor, Democrats found an experienced politician, Ryan, with strong connections to DC and lots of party support.
There was no way Molino was going to win. Had he espoused Trump's agenda, he would have alienated the squishy RINOs that are all that is left of the NY Republican party in that district. Same with "independents" that are liberals pretending to be above the fray. It would have cost him more than he would have gained from the few Trump Republicans left in the area.
Polls showing him winning by 10 points weren't honest. They were done so Ryan's "surprise" victory could be touted as a sign the red wave is dead.
Rather than fall for this propaganda, Trump supporters should be energized to support any Republican who won/ wins a primary in the general election. To not do so let's democrats and McConnell Republicans win.

I heard they described Molinaro as conservative, which is an actual political party in NY state (Hannity always reminds people).
Now, not sure how many conservatives get elected in blue NY, and I sure hope they all remind voters that New York was 1 of 4 states who had legal abortion PRIOR to the Roe decision (HI, AK and WA were the other 3), so they should not be frightened by the Roe issue since it was already legal there over 50 years ago.

In 2020 incumbent Antonio Delgado won the seat 55% - 43%. Seems like the Democrat ran 5 points lower in a very blue state this time.

People here shouldn't take this so lightly. Duchess and Ulster Counties are NOT NYC or Westchester - if you look at their voting records they're quite Republican, and if Trump didn't lead in both counties both times, he was very close.
I'd like to think this is a fluke because of low turnout and apathy for a mainly primary election but it shows that turnout will determine loads of close races so we all need to get out there and make sure we vote unless we want 2 more years of being unable to block legislation proposed by the lunatics "in charge" right now.

#6 That goes double for flying NY’ers gliding their way down to Democrat utopia from the 34th floor. Absolutely NO MERCY for New York. None. Keep your sorry butts out of Florida, but if you do come, just expect to need body work on your new Tesla. I hear they’re getting dinged and scratched when sporting a NY tag. Whoopsie.
