California is set to roll out its long-awaited ban on new gasoline cars on Thursday, which is part of its rule to have all new cars sold by 2035 to be electric only in an effort to fight climate change.
Governor Gavin Newsom first announced the ban in 2020 as a means to reduce the amount of smog-induced pollution in the air, which will improve the state's air quality that is the worst in the US.
The move will also make California the first in the world to mandate zero-emission vehicles on its roads -
Yeah, because electric cars are a clean energy source. Ever see a lithium mine, Gov?

The economy in California will continue to be destroyed until full economic collapse and no one lives in the state. They are already banning construction of new gas stations so that will spread. Just where the electricity will come from to charge up all the new electric vehicles will come from remains to be seen. Perhaps Mexico will build a new nuclear reactor and we can just buy it from them. Next they will require solar panels on electric cars so they can recharge themselves. Hey why didn’ti think of that? Elon Musk where are you?!

So, even with all the rolling brownouts the state has had for years, Newscum thinks that adding more things to burden the already overloaded system is a good thing? Liberals have lost what little hold on reality they had, for they are now all about the feelz. They just don't care about facts and reality #1. They operate in ignorance and like it better that way.

Just a few years from now gas powered lawn equipment will be Verboten. Then the noose slowly tightens on other aspects of life. CA will be a Democrat version of North Korea.

This has nothing to do with the environment. It's part of the New World order to limit and control.
By the way Newsom - any brownouts lately?

Cali streets will look Cuban in the future, with all of today's cars being preserved and held together with duct tape, bungee cords, picture hanger wire, and zip ties. Gotta love it.

Steaming load o' hooey.
The only "emissions free" vehicles are the ones not operating. Electric cars only MOVE the emissions from the tailpipe to the power plant... Every means of power production generates emissions. And the electric storage mechanisms are pollution monsters at disposal time AND battery fires are reportedly like trick birthday candles, the way they reignite after being put out.
Liberalism needs to be judged on the basis of its bone-headed manner of ignoring the way their great fixes almost always make things even worse. And on the rank dishonesty of the names they give their programs. And on their pathological habit of projecting their own destructive plans onto their opponents. If anybody is going to destroy the habitability of the planet it's them, bless their hearts.....

If only they would decree that only cars that run on bullsheet could be sold in CA, they would be totally energy independent.

Besides the obvious folly, there's a lot to unwrap here. The new schumer-manchin law limits EV rebates to vehicles with batteries made from U.S. materials, and guess where our only operational rare earth mine is? Mountain Pass CA, an environmental mess (see #1's comment, above) you can't miss on your way to Vegas. OK, so Brylcreem may be inadvertantly looking out for his state. Very noble of him, but the mine is owned by MP Materials Corporation, of which an 8% stake is owned by a Chinese company. 10% for the Big Guy in exchange for political support when he soon elevates his scam to the national level?

Go ahead and forbid fossil fueled vehicles in California. Knowing how Government works, the language of the law matters. Me, I'll continue to make my own Ethanol alcohol at home to power my lawn mower and motorized bike. I'll just make more to run my "internal combustion" engine car. I'll still be driving my car when there's no gas stations left or when there's no electricity to charge those pesky EVs. It'll be the only vehicle on the road were you can stop and have a stiff one right out of the tank (after you pull over of course) ;-)

I'll buy an EV right after I peacefully hand over my semi-automatic rifles. 2035 gives you people plenty of time to plan your move out of California but I would not wait too long given the housing situation in all of the desireable places to live. I recommend the section of the country from New York on up to the top of Maine, prime liberal environment where you will feel at home.

Pol Pot ordered water to flow uphill. That didn’t work either.
California can’t supply electricity as it is.
Why is immoral to use electricity to power air conditioners but ok for Teslas?
Wait until you have summer fires and the electricity is off and you get an evacuation order.

These globalists will shut down shops that repair any internal combustion engine. They will shut down parts suppliers. They will shut down gas stations and do whatever is necessary to promote green energy at the expense of human beings because this cabal of degenerates outwardly expresses the need for depopulation. The endgame of climate change is riding the world of a few billion souls here and there. I just did a little research on the guy that is close to Klaus Schwab. Some say he is the brain behind the evil. His name is Yuval Noah Harari. He wrote the book, Sapiens, and his thoughts are evil. He is a young Israeli highly thought of by everyone in the Davos crowd and his books are widely distributed throughout the intelligentsia. The topics that are discussed in his books and by this cabal are shocking and extremely disturbing. It truly is like some evil James Bond villain and his minions come to life except there is no 007 to stop them.

The People's Republic of California does not even have enough power now for its homes and businesses let alone for new and existing charging stations! Mandating electric cars will never work from a sustainability point of view. Battery technology is not even close to where it needs to be to make electric cars a viable option. The so-called magic number for range here is 500 miles. Electric cars struggle to get much less than that now in range. Imagine you had electric cars with ranges around 150 miles along the gulf coast and a hurricane is coming ashore. You don't have time to stop and charge. Besides, storms like hurricanes easily destroy power infrastructure. Electric cars are too expensive and not practical for most Americans. Remember even the People's Republic of California has storms that knocks out power for days at a time. Our power grid is weak now. The addition of electric cars will make it worse. Notice here I've not even mentioned the environment toxicity problems of materials in the car batteries. Lithium is not your friend. I think that hybrid vehicles, either gas-electric or clean diesel-electric are a better alternative combined with hydrogen as power sources. Politically mandated electric cars are a disaster that will ruin America. We all need to wake up and see the truth!

And the chance is 100% that the democrat politicians in CA will exempt themselves, and continue to buy gasoline-powered limos despite their own law.
Just like they exempted themselves from COVID lockdowns/masks, and partied anyway:
Just like the exempt themselves from gun laws, by hiring armed guards for themselves.

In 2035 a satellite image from space will show the United States lit up at night and California in the dark like images of North versus South Korea. Why wait just destroy gas stations, outlaw gasoline like Joe Biden wanted to do to the 9mm bullet that 'blows out lungs' of people it hits. How will all the illegals get around they can't afford electric cars. As California goes so does the rest of the nation, I don't think so.

All asking on what authority the state can do this seem to forget that they didn't have authority for over half of the crap they did under the guise of public health during their damn panic, I mean pandemic.
And those envisioning a future like Cuba, with refurbished old cars on the road might consider that the state can just stop renewing registration for any car they don't want us to drive (or registering any new ones they don't want us to have). Authoritarian Socialism is already up and running in Calif.
