The House on Thursday passed a bill 260-169 that would allow law enforcement to deploy an Amber alert-like phone notification system in active shooter situations. Forty-three Republicans joined Democrats in voting for the bill, and one Democrat, Rep. Ron Kind, D-Wis., who is not running for reelection, voted against it. The bill, led by Reps. David Cicilline, D-R.I., and Fred Upton, R-Mich., now heads to the Senate. Supporters of the bill said that it would allow police to alert the public of unsafe situations more quickly. They said police typically rely on social media and news reports to get the word out.

Notice also the sponsor, Fred Upton, R-Mich. That's the guy who, along with Compassionate George, banned the incandescent light bulb. When running for another term, Ethical Upton vowed to reverse that ban; guess he never got around to it.

The republicans in Congress do not want to win the House or Senate back in November because this time around they know the vast majority of a very angry voter base will absolutely expect them to get off their worthless, greedy asses and take back our Republic and stop every single one of any laws the communist death democrats try to ram through. They are doing their best to enrage and disgust us off before the election so that we will not vote.
Their strategy is to start joining up with the communist death democrats on worthless bills like this one leading up to the election and as more proof they actually help pass that unconstitutional gun control law whose purpose to further strip us of our 2nd Amendment rights. This is all part of a stealth plan concocted and put into motion by those corrupt, gutless traitors the M&M twins. ( McConnell in the Senate and McCarthy in the House). They are colluding with the communist death democrats to throw the 2022 mid term elections. They do not want to win.
Traitors and backstabbers the lot of them.

Liz Cheney voted yes. She also voted for the gun control bill last month.

If they did this fully in Chicago, phones would become unusable, with an active shooter alert about every 30 minute or more frequently in that hellhole.
Something else to delete. I wish there was a way to block all these alerts.

I guess it's okay. Now another reason when you're in a room with folks who aren't supposed to have their cell phones off mute you'll have five minutes of loud pings when an alert is issued.
I guess it's another instance of the "boy who cried wolf" fable in real-life.

Calm down, this is nothing to get riled about. Although, if the neighborhood gets an amber alert for an ongoing shooter situation 100's of neighbors may show up with their own guns. Quite a deterrent.

"What could possibly go wrong?"
- Imagine if everyone at a crowded concert all get the same "active shooter message" and all start running for the few exists, The ensuing melee and crush will be much more life-threatening and catastrophic than what might have occurred from a gunman who could be taken down quickly by armed security guards.
- This is what Congresspukes create when they attempt to 'protect' the public.

forgot to add...
- This "Law" would NOT have helped the people of Highland Park that day, as the event was already over before anyone could read and react to an Amber Message on their smartphones.

Lawyer Alert !!
Lawyers passing laws which you will need Lawyers to interpret and argue with other Lawyers in front of a Lawyer judge. Then a Lawyer will appeal to a higher Court of multiple Lawyers ... it is a self perpetuating profession.

It's odd that members of the House of Representatives have time to jump on a big current issue and cobble together a Band-Aid sort of bill, but they haven't been able to do their most important, Constitutionally-appointed duty and actually pass a national budget for several years.

Americans want the school carnage to stop, and to feel safe. This bill does nothing, but no good politician wants to face the angry soccer mom and her naif husband on the campaign trail. Imagine the campaign ads..."Our congressman voted against alerting the public when our schools are under attack..." Practical politics prevails again. The Federal government is "doing something".

Cops already KNOW here is an active shooter, this gets triggered by THEM. With this the shooter(s) know exactly when the cops get told, can calculate arrival time, who else is Reallllly looking forward to this? Those people inside with the shooter that have found a place to hide, out of sight, staying quiet...until....DING DING DING alarm tells shooter right where they are.
This is a knee jerk, news cycle driven "Don't just stand there DO something" made up on the fly by someones campaign guy bit of stuff and nonsense.
If they were REAL about "mass" school shooters getting stopped, they would have cops constantly on the prowl for goofy, black dressed, dope smoking, outcast types...that have ALREADY told someone they are going to do it. And armed teachers/staff would shoot ANY on sight that show up at any school.

"Upton, the Republican leader on the bill, pointed to the July 4 mass shooting at a parade in Highland Park, Ill., where the suspected gunman was at large for eight hours and drove across state lines to Wisconsin."
My recollection is that the "suspected gunman" did not become "suspected" until he started shooting from the roof.

How will this affect the police racing to the scene and cowering outside until the deranged gunman completes his grim work? Most likely the purpose is to give a big technology contract to someone's friend, or to a company in which esteemed members of the US Congress already have an equity position.
