New Yorkers will have to pay “hundreds of billions of dollars” in higher utility bills due to the state’s “Green New Deal”-inspired plan, according to a top energy regulatory official—who accused lawmakers of hiding the true cost of the bill. John Howard, former chairman and current member of the state Public Service Commission, claimed former Gov. Andrew Cuomo and the Democratic-run legislature never leveled with the public on the costs associated with the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act approved in 2019.
Howard, during a PSC session Thursday, said local pols “totally obfuscated” the costs of the plan because the sticker shock would have made the initiative unpopular.

How can we feel sorry for New York when they have banned hydraulic fracking (Gov. Cuomo in 2015) despite significant shale gas potential, which has been safely extracted in neighboring states like Pennsylvania.

That's tax and spend demonrats for you. They'll espouse grandiose plans and hide the costs to the tax paying public. This is just another reason to get rid of Cuomo clone Hotchul and her fawning demonrats in the legislature.

“It is incorrect and irresponsible to suggest New York ratepayers will be on the hook for the entire cost of our state’s transition to clean energy, "
The other to be on the hook will be NY taxpayers, including the rate payers, (with no tax credits) and the federal government. When the time is right NY $ billions will be granted by a Democrat controlled Congress, similar to the first COVID stimulus Bill.

It is $100's of billions every year. Actually, it is worse. It is hugely expensive goal that can never be achieved without the starvation and death of millions of people. Think Dark Ages.

It's not just NYC folks who are about to be hosed with much higher utility bills. We poor suckers in the People's Republic of Colorado will soon be facing similar increases as we get forced into installing solar panels on our houses.

We have ample energy in this country. In fact, more than enough and it is the safest and cleanest. China and India pumps out pollution on a massive scale and nothing is said, but the West must sacrifice. This hypocrisy is infuriating. Do these green nutbots fail to realize that the pollution spewed by China and India effects us all? Why not get real and start there demanding they conform to reasonable standards.,
The proposals by the left are unworkable. We do not have the infrastructure at this time, but we could continue using the energy resources we do have until the scientific community’s dreams catch up with reality. But they are having no part of it and would gladly push us back into the dark ages to get their way. It is insanity to believe we can do what they are demanding. This is a scheme cooked up by he world’s elites to gain control of the population. If a few billion of us must die, so be it. This also is not scientific. It is a boondoggle created by power mad elites. They will require standards the great unwashed masses must meet and cannot, but they all will be exempt. It is the worst kind of tyranny. I cannot believe that the world is falling for this nonsense. They have no real answers as to how this will work. This is the old Snake Oil scheme writ large that offers pie in the sky solutions that do not and will not work. It’s all about the almighty dollar and control. That is what is driving this new green deal.

#10, One would think that the VOTERS in CO would kick out those who are forcing everyone to install Solar Panels. How do they get away with this without being in the fight of their lives to stay in office? There must be a whole lot of Folks in CO who actually want Solar! I feel for those of you who don't, but are being run over by the Greenies in that State! I'm sure this will eventually migrate to all the Blue States! Sad!

New Yorkers will wake up next winter when the natural gas stops flowing in the pipelines to their furnaces. The question will arise, "why is it suddenly so cold?" The answer will be, "Vladimir Putin."

The hypocrisy of all of this is that no one in the Legislature OR our pandering un elected Governor will give up the State Plane, Helicopter, Tahoes and Escalades. We (NY Taxpayers) pay for every drop of fossil fuel that powers their elitist chariots. That rat Prince Andrew with his electioneering edicts have RUINED New York. All Kathy is doing is riding in his spiteful coattails and pushing the dagger ever deeper into the heart of New York Citizens. It’s disgusting.

This is the State that hates President Trump so much that they are digging through his tax returns to find some dirt. The State AG was elected with the promise to go after President Trump. A minister we know had to cancel a Revival in Western New York because this minister said kind words publicly about President Trump and some local ministers (who hate Trump) refused to help with the crusade. That's how petty, even Christians, have become about our beloved President Trump...and so, maybe, that's why there's some reaping of judgment with this billions of dollars of higher utility bills.

Re #4, yes the sun and the wind are free, but collecting them and turning into power is VERY expensive, and very unreliable.
You can guarantee that those solar panels are off work ALL NIGHT, every night. And the wind only blows sometimes. And the energy in the wind varies as the cube of wind speed, a big limitation.
For those who "cube" doesn't mean a lot....examples may help.
Wind speed Relative energy available
25 mph 100 units
20 mph 50 units
15 mph 22 units
10 mph 6 units
Many big windmills won't even spin at 10 mph or lower, producing nothing.
Wind power is so tremendously variable as to be typically able to only produce, even in locations with high average winds, only about 1/3 of the power the windmills are rated to produce. So a "1 megawatt windmill" will actually make about 1/3 of a megawatt on the long average. Very cost inefficient.
