Devastated residents returned to what's left of their multi-million dollar homes less than 24 hours after a wildfire ripped through the community of Laguna Niguel. The grim before and after photos reveal just how devastating a Wednesday night California wildfire was. At least 20 multi-million dollar mansions were reduced to rubble in just a matter of hours. The blaze - dubbed the Coastal Fire - ignited near a water treatment facility in Aliso Woods Canyon - between Laguna Niguel and Laguna Beach in Orange County - at 2.44pm and swept up steep terrain amid strong gales.

Dry summer brush. Lots of dead fuel. Any random spark or heat source.
It's California. It's normal.

Sorry, but it's a little hard to feel sorry for sad rich people standing in front of the ruins of their ultra posh mansions which will be rebuilt with insurance money anyway while they wait in villas in the Mediterranean and chateaus in the alps for the work to finish.

I hate to say it, but I would have more sympathy if Californians wouldn’t vote the most reckless, useless, and anti-American politicians into office. I do feel sorry for anyone who loses their homes regardless of their wealth. However, the policies their elected officials have enacted bears a lot of responsibility for all these fires. The green agenda which prevents them from clearing underbrush and maintaining proper control of the environment is just an invitation to this kind of tragedy. California will collapse under the weight of reckless democrat policies. Maybe it’s time people supporting this vile party wake up to the utter destruction they are asking for when they vote for a democrat. What a beautiful state and to have it ruined by anti-American zealots is a real shame. It was, at one time, the jewel in the crown of this nation and now it is a mess. Californians either wake up or resign themselves to more tragedy. I hope they decide to wake up and save their state.

People in Hawaii who build near active volcanoes suffer the same grief. But hey, it's Hawaii!

If I were a rich man and had one of those houses with a pool I would have had some diesel powered water pumps and spray systems to keep the house from catching fire.

Home insurance subsidizes wealthier coastal residents at the expense of (less-wealthy) homeowners farther inland. FEMA and legal changes to correct that breathtakingly unfair system have begun, but so far have barely moved the needle. I do feel sorry for the small handful of people who lost their homes. I also feel for the thousands of Americans who lose their homes or can never afford to buy one because of inflated insurance rates. Awesome that they have a mansion on the ocean, as long as they pay for it.

And once again my homeowners insurance will drastically increase even though in 45 years I have never had a claim.

If you're concerned about how 'high' your insurance rates are- you can always just self-insure it. It can be done but I'll bet the whining would be even higher pitched.

No sweat, Biden and Newsom will clear the remnants of the million dollar mansions that burnt down and replace them with affordable housing for the homeless and illegal aliens. The surviving neighbors would love that! After all they voted for that.

Years ago, while riding along the coastal highway I noticed the contrast between the blue waters of the Pacific and the brown scrub on the hills. It becomes obvious why brush fires are so common. All I kept thinking was if one cigarette butt was thrown out of a car, the hills would go up in flames like someone putting lighter fluid on charcoal.

How does anyone here know that those weren’t the homes of Conservatives? Orange County is full of them. And those were homes. Not just expensive houses. In addition to being a Christian who doesn’t wish others ill or goat when they suffer losses, I also believe in karma. Wish others ill at your own peril.
