The population of California continues to shrink, as residents flee the state's high cost of living and rising crime. California's population declined again in 2021 for the second consecutive year, state officials said Monday, the result of a slowdown in births and immigration coupled with an increase in deaths and people leaving the state. Critics point to the steady stream of people leaving California as an indictment on the state's policies, which are set by Governor Gavin Newsom and his fellow Democrats in the state legislature. About 280,000 more people left California for other states than moved here in 2021, continuing a decades-long trend.

Surely they're replacing that every few months with illegal aliens.

Works for me. Growth brought us nothing but Democrats. Now our top talent legislature wants more housing so R-1 lots should be allowed to hold more living units.
We don’t need more of what “population growth” brought us. A longtime Republican state, we ended up with Dust Bowl refugees and others with their hands out. And their lousy politics.
If this is supposed to upset real Californians, the DM is wasting its time.

The quick question, have the voter registration for those who left been updated to remove them so they won't be sent a ballot for the June primary?
If not, this would seem to be a problem with ensuring safe and fair elections when you simply mail out a ballot to everyone on the voter registration list.
This should particularly be the case for people who've died, since there is a notice that is sent out to stop paying pensions, social security, etc...?

Get out of San Francisco/Sacramento and LA...the rest ofthe state is conservative. Small town where my daughter lives went for Trump by over 60%.

Why do we never hear of illegals crossing the Ca. border?

Most fleeing the state are conservatives. Leaving behind democrats. However, you can't outrun evil. So stay and fight for what's right.

6, I've been here my entire adult life. There is no fighting it and the long term damage will take generations to repair if the state ever becomes semi-sane again.
I am out. Just a few more weeks left.

Lose taxpayers, gain impoverished gang-bangers' families.
That's why we left 10 years ago.
The police buckled to the whims (loud and violent) of our multicultural neighbors over the laws on the books.

If the census didn't count illegals then CA would probably have lost congressional seats and electoral votes. That's why the left wants to count them.
Let's go Brandon!

Look for California to officially count illegals so they get their 'fair share' of the federal pie. Only a matter of time before illegals are allowed to vote. All in the name of equality and social justice. For California lawmakers, the law is whatever they want it to be. Never mind any constitution. How many other states will follow California's lead?

I don't believe it. People may indeed be leaving, but I seriously doubt the population is decreasing...
apartment building is continuing at a high rate (if not accelerating), existing housing prices are astronomical and still climbing.

Unfortunately too many of the 100K are coming to my state. The sewage from the not-so-Golden State overflows. Someone call a plumber.
