In 1998, Congress passed the Mickey Mouse Protection Act. In a classic case of bipartisan corruption, the bill brought together Republicans, along with Barney Frank and John Conyers, to do a special favor for Disney and for other entertainment industry companies. The Mickey Mouse Act (formally the Copyright Term Extension Act) was one of a series of measures that took the original copyright system, meant to protect an author's rights, and instead turned it into a permanent monopoly cash cow for Hollywood studios. Mickey Mouse, a character created in the 20s, will only become public domain in 2024. That is if Republicans don’t once again decide to do a special favor

Best wsy to hurt the giant rat is to stop funding them. Don't make an announcement, just stop going. The company makes enormous sums of money from their overpriced parks. Let the politicians take away their tax incentives and copywrites. That will hurt them some but if people stop going to the parks, stop buying movie tickets, drop the streaming service, they will fully feel the pain. Reminds me of the line from the movie Trading Places. If you want to hurt rich people you make them poor.

Call your representative and ask them NOT to extend the copyright. Let them know the consequences (primary) if they don't.

Not extending these copyrights would be wrong and arbitrary. It would be another version of cancel culture. It's the type of thing Democrats do. The correct action is BOYCOTT EVERYTHING DISNEY.

On Tuesday morning, New York Lt. Gov. Brian Benjamin surrendered to authorities “to face fraud-related charges in connection with a previous political campaign,” according to a report from The Daily Beast. Benjamin was arrested on multiple charges, including bribery, over an alleged plot to get campaign contributions in exchange for a state grant. Benjamin is expected to appear in Manhattan federal court Tuesday afternoon, and the U.S. Southern District of New York is scheduled to hold a press conference at noon. Gov. Kathy Hochul appointed Benjamin as her lieutenant governor last year. According to NBC New York, “The investigation into Benjamin came after the FBI arrested his fundraiser, Gerald Migdol, in November.”

“Joy, immortal incandescence Daughter of Elysium! Breathing fire from your presence To your temple ground we come.” This is the invocation of joy that begins Friedrich Schiller’s great Ode, whose first three stanzas were set by Beethoven in the final movement of his 9th Symphony. Baltimore Symphony conductor Marin Alsop has replaced them with doggerel from a local rapper. She explained to Baltimore magazine: You know, the [Friedrich] Schiller poetry is phenomenal, but it’s not relevant for us today. (Snip) Alsop also inserted African drumming and a jazz ensemble between movements of Beethoven’s symphony. This is idiotic in more ways

One would think that a former president of the United States would be a staunch defender of the First Amendment. When it comes to Barack Obama, however, you’d think wrong. Obama spoke Wednesday at an event sponsored by The Atlantic and the University of Chicago’s Institute of Politics, “Disinformation and the Erosion of Democracy.” In the course of a long and rambling discussion with The Atlantic’s Jeffrey Goldberg, Obama called for government control over the Internet in order to stem the “demand for crazy” that was spreading what he called “disinformation.”

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Scottie Scheffler has lived up to the hype at Augusta National. The world's top-ranked player captured his first major championship with a three-stroke victory at the Masters. Scheffler came into the day with a three-shot lead, and he made sure it held up by closing with a 1-under 71. He finished at 10-under 278 overall, winning for the fourth time in his last six tournaments. Scheffler four-putted for a double-bogey at the final hole, but he had such a comfortable lead it didn't matter. Rory McIlroy was the runner-up after shooting 64, but he came into the day 10 strokes behind and was never a serious challenger to Scheffler.

I was mad when a judge ruled that America’s most famous convicted race-crime hoaxer, Jussie Smollett, was allowed to walk out of jail after he all but defecated on our judicial system. Don’t you love how the once-successful actor plays two victim cards, black and gay, in one rant? If only he would put that into a rap song. Say WHAT? He did! In what is probably the most painful 1 minute, 40 seconds you’ll endure this month, Smollett used some of his free time from the hoosegow to rap about his innocence, throw love to his few remaining supporters, and play THREE victim cards. Check out this mad poetry, yo!

Will Joe Biden Bring the U.S. Down With Him? 11 replies

Joe Biden does not seem steady on his feet or clear in his mind, and at this stage the same might be said for the country he nominally governs. His unforced errors, some of which have an oddly deliberate ring to them, may have rendered the November midterms and the 2024 presidential election entirely moot. Whether the nation can remain socially, politically, and economically intact even for the next few months is an open question. Biden is a fool, but there is cunning in his folly. A frugal mind may be capable of great wiliness, and blunders may curiously work in an unintentional way to promote intentional policy.

During his first few days as President, Joe Biden named Robert Malley as his U.S. Special Envoy for Iran. Malley has a long history of antipathy toward Israel, as well as a profoundly deep reserve of patience with Iran and other enemies of the Jewish state. Most notably, he helped negotiate the Iran nuclear deal of 2015 — known officially as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) — and he subsequently opposed the Trump Administration’s “maximum pressure” sanctions against Tehran. From the start of his tenure with the Biden Administration, Malley called for the U.S. to return to the JCPOA as swiftly as possible,

A number of city officials from Tampa, Florida were in attendance at the 23rd Annual Islamic Charity Festival, held in March, to show their support for the festival’s organizer, the Tampa Bay Muslim Alliance (TBMA), and those involved in the event. Representing one of the festival’s sponsors, the Islamic Community of Tampa (ICT), was Hatem Fariz, a convicted member of Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ). Expecting to find hardened criminals, Dungy found instead “19- and 20- and 21-year-old kids who looked like my boys.” When Dungy asked what accounted for the young men’s incarceration, Brown told him, “(snip) Ninety-five percent of these boys did not grow up with their dad.”

Although, after much mockery, the White House has given clarification on the supposed flying mystery substance that many aren’t buying.
