A desperate hunt is underway for the gunman in Tuesday morning's subway horror shooting in New York City who shot ten people on a packed commuter train during rush hour but remains at large. At 8.24am, the gunman - described by witnesses as a 5ft 5 black man, weighing 170lbs, wearing an green construction vest, grey hoodie and gas mask, put on a gas mask and then let off a smoke bomb on a slow-moving northbound N-train as it approached 36th Street station in Brooklyn. He then opened fire, shooting ten people - five of whom are now in a critical but stable condition.

Millions of New Yorkers began their commutes to work and school on Wednesday morning as law enforcement officers continued searching for the gunman who shot 10 people on a subway train during yesterday’s morning rush hour. The manhunt ramped up for 62-year-old Frank R James, who police have identified as a “person of interest” in the mass shooting, but who Mayor Eric Adams on Wednesday said was a suspect.
Police found a key to a U-Haul van at the scene which authorities said James rented in Philadelphia, as well as a 9mm semiautomatic handgun and extended magazines, a hatchet, fireworks, a liquid believed to be gasoline,
The Biden administration will extend the public transportation mask mandate for two weeks, a source familiar with the matter told the Associated Press.
The mask mandate currently applies to air travel and public transportation, including trains and buses. The mandate was set to expire on April 18, however the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will extend it for two weeks while monitoring for a potential rise in severe Covid cases, the source told the AP.
White House COVID-19 response coordinator Ashish Jha said on Monday that an extension was “absolutely on the table” because of the spread of an Omicron sub-variant.

Police announced earlier that Frank R. James was a “person of interest” in the Brooklyn subway attack in which at least 10 people were shot and at least 13 others were injured. The police have not yet said whether or not they believe he is the shooter in the attack. They believe James rented a U-haul vehicle they have connected to the attack.
Police describe how they worked it out. The attacker used a smoke bomb inside a subway car in Brooklyn and then shot people in the car. The suspect was described as a 5’5″ black male, heavyset, in a green construction vest and a gray sweatshirt.

Frank James rented a U-Haul van tied to the N train attack in Sunset Park and is being sought for questioning, police said at an evening briefing. The key to the van was found at the scene of the crime, as was a credit card that rented the vehicle out of Philadelphia, cops and law-enforcement sources said.

Police have located a U-Haul van believed to be tied to the gunman who shot at least ten people at a Brooklyn subway station on Tuesday morning, according to several reports.
Police sources told the New York Post and the Associated Press that the white truck with Arizona plates was recovered in Gravesend on West Third Street near Kings Highway. The van was discovered after investigators found a credit card at the scene of the shooting that they believe belongs to the gunman, according to the New York Post. One of the charges on the card was for a rental out of Philadelphia.
