The news out of California is increasingly more dystopian with each day’s passing. The state that was once known for its own brand of the American Dream has now become associated with unchecked crime and violence, a chronic homelessness issue, drug addiction and filthy cities. And the beat goes on, as one Los Angeles environ was forced this week to discontinue mail service to homes due to a rise in attacks on mail carriers. In January, a United States Postal Service (USPS) mail carrier was assaulted while delivering mail in the 1300 block of 14th Street in Santa Monica. A few weeks later the USPS sent a notice to local residents

Comments:

No checks, no USPS packages, bills, gift cards? They know who is behind most of these attacks, and the simplest solution is the best. If the Fed Postal Police won't take care of it, they have to take care of it themselves.

Stop mail delivery to the L.A. mayor and city council too - just to be fair as they are helping to exasperate the crime problem.

Wow. This is extraordinarily bad, even for L.A. The mail carriers deliver the welfare checks that the people use to buy drugs! The mail carriers were the last ones to fear for their lives. Wherever this neighborhood is, Abandon All Hope Ye Who Enter Here.

If welfare checks and food stamps were still delivered via mail, they'd dispatch the National Guard to make sure the goods arrive safely. Nothing is more American than welfare and food stamps.

The 9-year-old girl who was shot at a California mall Tuesday night was hit by three stray bullets while waiting in line to see the Easter Bunny, police and her relatives said. Little Ava Chruniak was struck by the bullets allegedly fired by Marqel Cockrell, 20, a shoe store owner at the Mall of Victor Valley who was aiming at two shoplifters he was chasing away, according to police and her grandmother. “Cockrell’s shots missed the shoplifters and instead hit the 9-year-old female victim,” the Victorville Police Department said in a statement. Ava suffered a broken arm, according to a GoFundMe page that was raising money for her hospital bills.

Gibson's Bakery, a 135-year-old family business near the campus of Oberlin College, was initially awarded more than $40 million in punitive and compensatory damages in the aftermath of a 2016 incident in which the owner's son confronted three black Oberlin students who were stealing wine from the store. Although the suspects were arrested and later admitted they were shoplifting, the episode touched off school-sanctioned protests and accusations of racism that crippled the store's business.

Titled “In This Time of War, I Propose We Give Up God,” the article claims that God is responsible for “war and violence” and for “oppression and suffering,” and suggests that people stop teaching children about Him. Author Shalom Auslander, who is disillusioned about his upbringing in a religious Jewish community in New York, argues (original emphasis): God, it seems, paints with a wide brush. He paints with a roller. In Egypt, said our rabbi, he even killed first-born cattle.
