The Biden administration announced Friday that it would resume selling new oil and gas leases on federal lands – while hiking royalties that go the public when selling leases for extracting fossil fuel reserves in nine states. The Interior Department announced the news Friday afternoon – Good Friday and the start of Passover while Biden is away at Camp David, in a sign of the political sensitivity of the issue. It comes amid successive reports of soaring inflation, although the administration has stressed repeatedly that decisions on leasing primarily impact long-term, rather than short-term supply, and has called on companies to explore for oil and gas on existing leases.

Kinda like the arsonist calling the Fire dept. to report a problem. Never mind he's also the one who's let the air out of their tires.

So now Biden tries to shift the blame from himself to oil and gas companies: "See, I opened up all the lands for leasing, but those Texas oilmen are so greedy that they won't pay their fair share. They are sitting in their fancy, air conditioned offices and letting the oil supplies dwindle while poor single moms struggle to buy fuel for their cars so they can go to work and feed their families."

To be canceled the day after the next election. It takes time to get started after you've been told to drop dead. And how enthused are you going to be knowing the rug is going to be pulled out from under you once the election is over.

Dear Government: If you have the slightest comprehension that commodity prices are affected by supply and demand, factored with speculation (what will happen to future supply?), but simultaneously owe allegiance to radicals who want to totally wean us by choking supply, how do you explain your government policies? You took action to kill future supply with cancellations of permits for future development. You mandated alternative sources without calculating the practicality or capacity of these sources. You alienated those friendly dominions and courted those hostile powers who could supplement your supply. Then you tap a national security reserve trying to correct a crisis that you caused. And you want to give money to the populace so they can buy the commodity you are trying to choke and ease the financial burden of the shortage you created. (Sort of like: Heroin is bad for you and the cost is escalating, so because we’re trying to eliminate it, we’ll give you money to buy more and ease the financial burden of your addiction.) Thus, you are admitting that this commodity is needed for our economic security. Putin may be evil and certainly has contributed to energy issues by creating instability in markets and international relations. However, you are floundering in your own incompetence, and you are bringing us all down!

I can pretty much insure that xiden will not acknowledge that he screwed up by killing all drilling and pipelines. Damage is already done xiden. You and your party members will have to pay in November. I can't wait until then.

These Demonrats don't put GOOD land up for lease! This is so when the oil companies take a pass on it, the leftist politicians can say, "See! They're purposefully driving up the price of oil by not buying leases to find more oil!"
A few years back I was working with an employee of a large oil company who told me that their predictions for finding oil 30 years ago was about 60-70% owing to the technology available at the time. Today, he said, their technology has gotten them to more around 90-95% certainty before them even break ground. They know where the oils is, when they're allowed to get it.

it's always a matter of "believe it when you see it" and the demcommies are still playing that game and we are, evidently, falling for it, again - don't mean to sound like a pessimist, here, but life in a demcommie society is nothing but lie after lie after lie and I don't trust a word on anything that comes from this buffoons commie cohorts - I am particularly PO'd at silly milley for being the most advanced case of slovenly leadership I have ever seem in a CJCOS, it appears to me the only accomplishment to him was changing the uniform of, I guess, General level command officers, he's pathetic as a soldier and as a General officer

The proviso being that drilling could commence later this year, at a fraction of capacity and at a higher federal royalty charge to the federal government (12.5% to a new 18.75%)--which ultimately will be transferred on to the consumer.

Assuming that leasing more federal lands will increase oil production would require that there be a substantial surplus of drilling rigs on standby, all fully staffed and equipped, just waiting for Biden's green light.
There is no such surplus.

Cut them some slack. Saving the planet is an expensive proposition. They might have to confiscate EVERYTHING to accomplish it. After all, what is more noble than saving the planet?
(/s/s/s/s/s)
Now they will allow drilling, but at higher prices. This solves nothing. The reek of corruption is overpowering.

This is deceptive. In fact the Biden Administration has substantially reduced the percentage of Federal land available for leasing and substantially increased fees.

Interesting turn of events...looks like the inflation numbers and biden's falling poll numbers have frightened a few Washington insiders to do something...I'll believe it when it doesn't take $100 to fill my gas tank and $45 for two small bags of groceries...next...close the southern border....and while I'm at it...fire Pstaki...she's useless representing the news...her lying is catching up with her...no one believes anything she says....let's circle back on that!!

Don’t be fooled, this only a tiny fraction of the land and royalties/leases are at much increased prices which will raise gas prices even higher. This administration is evil.

Even when there is a crisis in the country, the democrats require their cut.
They make it appear that they want to help Americans by actions that might lower fuel prices, but they just can’t resist helping themselves.
Never ever vote for a democrat. Not even for dog catcher.

Yeah, and after you oilmen jump through the hoops, regulations, and legal challenges ahead of you, drilling can probably start in 2031 or 2032.

The joey show will allow for some more drilling but is raising the taxes and fees on the producers which will be passed along to the consumers. But we won't notice that and will thank him for allowing drilling. Joey, the dems are dumb, WE are not.

If Biden and his leftist handlers actually do put some federal land up for lease again, you can bet that they will also up come with so many technical regulations, requirements, and other rules on the lessees that it will be unprofitable for any actually drilling to take place.

Leases only?!? They also need permits permits permits and the Biden admin has been dragging their feet on permits. You can lease the land but you still need permits to drill. They also need ways to deliver the oil. Trucks are very inefficient and dangerous. Pipelines are much safer. But again they need permits for pipelines, permits for the trucks, and permits to drill.
There are so many roadblocks to an oil company delivering product that it is easy for the government to stop it.

Leases are one thing, getting a Permit is another. Are they issuing those? If not, this is just eyewash. A lease is great but if you can't get the Permit than nothing happens. Old Joe is probably pulling that stunt.

Oil and Gas executives are not stupid. Soon after the election day (when the Republicans take the House and Senate) to the end of December, Biden will pull the rug out...its the way Democrats do business. Nothing honorable about Democrats.

Listen, this announcement that the govt. is selling oil and gas leases on federal lands (which most of the West is federal lands)....is not for DRILLING! If I'm wrong, this only means oil and gas companies have a lease to extract, but not to drill. Ex-bomb explosive expert (missing his legs) Army Joey Jones was on Fox recently and said leasing is not drilling. It's just like the demonrats to look like they're helping inflation, but they're not with gas prices. Evil is as evil does.

This will do absolutely diddly-squat other than giving a rebuttal talking point that snarky, phony as her hair color, Tacky Jen Psaki.
Even if they started drilling on Monday it would take months to build the well's pipes and its supporting infrastructure.
And with no new pipelines to hold the increased capacity not a drop of oil will hit the markets in less than a year.
Never mind NEW leases ... open wells that have been shut --- ya big dummy!
