Jerry Taylor loved golf and so it was no surprise that one bright sunny afternoon in March 2002, he could be found practising his chip shots at his local course in Tucson, Arizona. Unfortunately for the mild-mannered 60-year-old frozen food salesman, lurking in the desert surrounding the practice range was a man squinting through the sights of a high-powered rifle.(Snip)For more than three weeks in October 2002, warped Gulf war veteran John Muhammad and his teenage accomplice Lee Malvo cowed the American capital and its suburbs as they indiscriminately shot 13 residents with their Bushmaster rifle from the boot of their car.

Comments:

John Muhammad and teenage Lee Malvo were gay black nationalist muslim jihadis, as was known way back when, but the press covered that up. One day they will be featured on a New American postage stamp as unsung early heroes of the gay black nationalist muslim Marxist revolution.

I vaguely remember these two were spotted in a rest stop by a tractor trailer driver who called 911, then blocked the exit of the rest stop with his rig till police arrived. Anyone remember this?

A .223 is NOT a "high powered rifle". In fact, many states prohibit it's use for deer hunting because it isn't sufficiently powerful.

I was on travel to DC the morning the bus driver was shot. Ran into a roadblack where I-395 emerges from beneath the Capitol grounds and it didn't matter that I was in uniform - one of the combat-dressed goons manning the checkpoint put an M4 to my head while another checked the back seat of the rental car. Scarey.

Looks like an interesting documentary, albeit about a 20 year-old event. I was interested in it back then but haven't had much info about it since. Interesting that it's made and broadcast in the UK and not the USA. Anyone know how to access / watch this in the USA?

The police in the DC area were all spooked, badly spooked. They had no idea who or why. The FBI was on the case, bungling along, as usual. My office was running through various files looking for possible disgruntled police department applicants for the past decade, among other groups. Yes, they were looking for that truck...not the Caprice. They were all waiting for the next victim with little hope of doing anything to stop the carnage.

One of the upper number cable channels, Vice, recently ran the riveting eight episode series I, Sniper. One of the narrators was shooter Lee Boyd Malvo, who was interviewed extensively for this production. This detailed inside account of what John Muhammad and Malvo did in 2002 (and before) shows a level of evil that is startling to behold. Muhammad in particular derived diabolical pleasure watching several victims expire in front of instantly bereaved spouses just out doing things that people do, never expecting the absolute worst to happen. If anyone ever deserved capital punishment, John Muhammad did. One hundred per cent evil. Of course, he did molest Malvo, over and over, in addition to teaching him how to snipe from a car trunk. If you have the stomach for it, watch I, Sniper. You won't forget it.

Yes, #2. I lived in northern Virginia at the time and my daughter attended a Catholic school in Frederick, MD. There were no school buses so I drove the 50 mile round trip twice a day for 8 years, with occasional carpooling. We kept our eyes peeled for that white van every minute that we were on the road or in a public place. That rest stop is on I70 just west of Frederick on South Mountain, sight of a lot of fighting during the Civil War.

Lockdowns in the U.S. and Europe had little or no impact in reducing deaths from COVID-19, according to a new analysis by researchers at Johns Hopkins University. The lockdowns during the early phase of the pandemic in 2020 reduced COVID mortality by about 0.2%, found the broad review of multiple scientific studies. “We find no evidence that lockdowns, school closures, border closures, and limiting gatherings have had a noticeable effect on COVID-19 mortality,” the researchers wrote. But the research paper said lockdowns did have “devastating effects” on the economy and contributed to numerous social ills. “They have contributed to reducing economic activity, raising unemployment, reducing schooling, causing political unrest,

Libby was convicted in 2007 of obstruction of justice and other crimes related to a leak of the identity of CIA agent Valerie Plame Wilson. The conviction was widely viewed as a miscarriage of justice, especially because Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage later admitted that he was the likely source of the leak, not Libby. President George W. Bush commuted Libby’s sentence, but despite the urging of then-Vice President Cheney, he declined to issue a formal pardon for his aide. It was only Trump who pardoned Libby in 2018, taking the political heat for doing so and standing up for Libby’s record of public service.
