His unfortunate state is not due to overwork (First Lady Jill claims Joe toils for the country 24/7). No, Joe falters due to early entry into old age. Joe strains mightily to read a teleprompter. His handlers tell him to just read the damn words and don't insert any of his own. Joe faithfully complies. With squinting eyes and monotone voice he recites every word scrolled. Full disclosure: I despise Steven Spielberg movies and dislike both Romeo and Juliet and the 1961 West Side Story (WSS) movie. For that reason, I take particular delight in noting that Steven Spielberg's remake of WSS may have enthralled critics, but no one is rushing to see it. And no wonder, given that it's so darn woke that parts of it are in a language most Americans don't speak, but Spielberg refused to include subtitles. Let me quickly get through my biases. I hate Steven Spielberg movies because I find them overblown, predictable, and incredibly boring. I also dislike the way he presents children.

When I was in medical school, I had the privilege of working in a large inner-city hospital, located right between two rival gangs. There were no emergency room residents, so trauma was handled by the general surgery residents. As such, I had firsthand views of some significant trauma. Each “emergency room” was basically curtains separating a large open space into cubicles. One day, a report came over the radio, we would receive a wounded officer and a wounded gang member. The officer was unfortunately shot in the back and paralyzed, the gang member shot in the knee, but otherwise fine.
