Donald Trump criticized late Secretary of State Colin Powell as a 'RINO' who 'made plenty of mistakes' in a Tuesday statement one day after Powell's death of COVID-19 complications at age 84.In a statement full of mixed messages Trump commented on the posthumous praise Powell has been receiving since Monday morning and said he hoped he'd get the same treatment 'one day.''Wonderful to see Colin Powell, who made big mistakes on Iraq and famously, so-called weapons of mass destruction, be treated in death so beautifully by the Fake News Media,' Trump said

I have been waiting for the response from President Trump. If the accolades for Collin Powell continue, the communist Pope will be forced to start the sainthood process for the late General. Powell was dirt, or worse, to the left until he attacked Trump. RIP General and don't believe these press clippings.

Gen Powell let photos of the road to baghdad , littered with blown up trucks , stop a military op dead , uncompleted .This allowed the enemy to regroup and eventually win the world’s “feelings “ battle .. “make it glass “ was the way to spare American lives ..Gen P made it live tv ( remember the geraldo press telling the enemy our plans ) )?

In my opinion Trump should have followed the old saying "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it". This only gives ammo to the never Trumpers, tbe msm, and the dems.

Yeah, I'm kind of the opinion wait until the body is cold and in the ground personally but President Trump is damned if he does or doesn't so why even pretend to be nice. I am not mourning the loss of Powell who I considered a substandard officer and a traitor to the Conservatives everywhere. So no, I won't play the hypocrite either.

Dear Mr. Trump
You are dreaming if you think the media will let you off when you pass.
You are the wrong party AND the wrong flavor.

I wrote this guy off the moment I saw him kissing up to obama! He was an equal opportunity military officer that never accomplished much. President Trump tells it like it is.

I'm with #4. I did not respect General Powell when he was alive and not now because he died. He was part of the deep state. I did not say anything earlier out of respect to the family. But I'm saying it now. He and Milley are very much alike.

While the swamp politicians cry their crocodile tears and slobber all over Powell for being a good guy, they forget the bad things he did (some pointed out by Trump). For example, he was complicit in an investigation during Bush's administration that cost millions of dollars into who leaked that Valerie Plame was a CIA operative and that sent the wrong person to prison for it. Patrick Fitzgerald knew in advance from Powell and his deputy Richard Armitage who the leaker was before the investigation began; it was Armitage. Nonetheless, they sent Scooter Libby, an innocent man, to prison for the leak. It was President Trump who finally pardoned him.

Let the man rest in peace and may the Lord console his family.
He may have been a pretty good general, but he wasn't much as a diplomat or a politican.

I agree with #3 Trump's statement is petty. There ARE times when he doesn't need to mention himself. He should've recognized General Powell's service to the country and sent condolences to the family. Nothing else.

Agree with all of the above. It's an unforced error and and just not appropriate at this time.

"even though" in the headline should read "precisely because". The MSM have restrained their partisan invective against only one group of Republicans: specifically RINOs.

My favorite Colin Powell memory was every four years when he, "a lifelong Republican," would endorse the Democrat candidate for POTUS.

#3 - it’s time to stop accepting two sets of rules. Colon Powell, and the rest of the Never/Hate Trump community can insult, demean, criticize, abuse, accuse, harass, harangue, and attack Pres Trump and his supporters with no abandon or pushback. Pres. Trump is right to show and tell that the saint ain’t.

#3....Bull. President Trump was called a insurrectionist and the cause of the "riot" on January 6 by Powell. He indorsed biden for CIC and trashed President Trump as a corrupt man. After everything President Trump AND family AND his supporters had gone through Powell couldn't bring himself to at least be honest. I totally support President Trump !!!!!!!

Over 84 years, people evolve on many subjects. Powell, as a young Army captain, served in Viet Nam as an advisor three years before we sent in U. S. combat troops. He did a second tour in '68 as a major and was decorated for bravery after rescuing three others in a helicopter crash. Before his 4th star, he served as Reagan's National Security Advisor. He was nothing like Milley when he chaired the JCS. I think too much DC led him to later embrace Obama but he had a noteworthy background prior to his flights of democrat fancy. The point is, people change - for better or worse.
Like Reagan, Trump was once a democrat but unlike Reagan, Trump was an independent in 1987 and changed to a democrat in 2001 before changing to a Republican in 2009; however, he switched back to independent from 2011 to 2012, when he again switched back to Republican. Powell had a long career before losing his mind over Obama. Trump's comments on Powell are applauded by his most die-hard supporters but not so much by those who were warming up to the idea of him back in the White House. Those folks will likely be needed to provide the margin sufficient to overcome democrat cheating in '24.

Although Powell should be commended for his military service he should be remembered as a John McCain political clone. I have absolutely no respect for RINO's.
