Labor Day was once the nation’s most blatantly political national holiday — created by the trade-union movement to celebrate the right of working people to bargain collectively and to stage strikes to press their demands. But no more, for good reason.Even before Congress created the federal holiday in 1894, New York hosted the nation’s first Labor Day parade as 10,000 workers took off from their jobs to march from City Hall to Union Square. As the movement grew, so did the parades and celebrations. How times have changed. Today, Labor Day is largely an occasion for sales, end-of-summer cookouts and back-to-school preparations. Why?

At one time, unions served a valuable purpose to work for the rights and safety of employees.
Now they are nothing more than lie-beral power brokers, whose main concern is supporting lie-beral causes (regardless that most of them are detrimental to the employees they supposedly represent), and lining the pockets of the union leaders!!!
Unions causing American-made products to cost often 5 to 10 times more than they do to produce in other countries is why finding a "made in the USA" label is almost impossible these days. As much as most people would prefer to buy stuff made in the USA, the cost difference between that product and one made in China is so extreme that it's just not possible.

Waiting for our demented president to come out and express his love for the labor unions that he has “whored” himself out to for 50 years of payoffs to him and his family. We thought Nixon was crooked but this is the most corrupt president, as well as the worst and weakest of all time. Bought and paid for by labor.

Most of the union workers are now government employees with 1.5x private company pay, and 4x private company vacations and benefits. People have realized they are the employer that must pay for it all.

"Skilled Trade" Unions are now approx 50% Repub, while the Leadership still gives 100% to the Dems. We (carps) drive fullsize trucks, it would take 4 teslas just to carry our tools. We hunt, we fish, have boats, 4wheelers, snowmachines, GUNS, demand safety...for our families too. HATE a thief. Nearly half of all illegals go to work in OUR trade, but do not join a union, do not follow safety rules/practices, do not have training, do not even speak english. We understand that a "Wall" is Infrastructure, as are pipelines, US made tools, steel, trucks and even lumber are "Better". Dems are pushing massive "Infrastructure" spending Bills FROM our hard earned taxes claiming they will boost JOBS!!! but few of those Jobs require Gloves, hence are not "Infrastructure".Hotel/Motel/Restaurant and Govt workers all TAKE from our paychecks, do not add to them. The poem in the article is allll about farmworkers, the ONLY Farmworker Unions are for Illegals. Dems despise calloused handed, truck driving, patriotic, gun toting, religiously observant, "Manly" Men...they despise the "Common" man, idolize the fringe "abnormal" types instead. Even within the Union...I got texts today from Union HQ, bragging about 40hr/weeks...yet THEY expect us to work six 10hr days to qualify as "Full time", (rules allow us to stop at 8 hrs, and only work five days, but...layoffs and no job calls result from actually doing that) Iron workers, Steelworkers, Pipefitters, Millrights, Teamsters...all have trended further and further to the "Right" side of things, including voting. Cops are certainly going that way now...

Public unions - keep in mind teachers, the police, IRS employees, border patrol, and many many other government employees are in unions.

The union management became more corrupt than the union’s antagonists.
Every institution is corrupted and exploited. What’s to respect?

I pay my $10 a week dues for a minimum wage part time grocer job. Almost $500 a year. As does every worker in our store. And many more stores across our midwestern states. Can't honestly say what good our union is for. They will help bad workers keep their jobs, but no extra help (paycheck) for good workers. The store gave us anti-racism Tshirts to wear at the height of the Floyd riots, so there's that. But otherwise - we are working several months now without a contract.

Where I work there is a union and they are worthless. They spend all their time defending the lazy and inept, but when a legitimate grievance comes along they are nowhere to be found. The covid shot mandate is the latest example. Where is the union? Crickets.

I'd suspect that these days most people's negative views of unions belong to the Teachers Unions which have gained far too much clout with the politicians who are in great fear of them.

Part of it is few people see the value of unions. And part is that almost every holiday is just an excuse for a 3-day weekend. And our local schools have managed to stretch MLK day into a 4-day weekend. Juneteenth will soon be a whole month off.

Unions have gone from fighting for workers rights and safe working conditions to being COMMUNISTS.
Any questions?
