Should the minimum wage really be $26

The federal minimum wage in the U.S. has remained glued at $7.25 an hour for the last 12 years, the longest stretch without a boost since it was first adopted in 1938. Yet there's another revealing figure that underscores how the minimum wage — created by Congress after the Great Depression as a way to ensure that Americans were fairly paid for their labor — has failed to keep up with the times. Even as workers have been more industrious — helping drive corporate profits, the stock market and CEO compensation to record heights — their pay has flatlined, or even declined when factoring

Why not $30, or $50. Oh heck - just make it $100/hour then everyone will have enough money for anything they want. /s off

Back in 58 I worked in a super market bagging groceries for 15 cents an hour eventually working my way up to stocker unloading semis and filling the shelves at a $1.35 an hour. I was in hog heaven. Back then our money was actually worth something so you needed a whole lot less of it to get by. Of course back then we didn’t have a government that paid you not to work.

Sure... As long as you're willing to pay 12.50 cents for a hamburger... Want fries with that? That'll be another 9.25 cents... so sure.

This is nonsense. The "economy's productivity" is not the basis upon which we set wages. Stop the government from over spending and printing fake money and inflation will drop. That's why a dollar doesn't go as far. Put Joe and the DNC in diapers and stop the ridiculous spending and it'll be ok. No need for a minimum wage.

Try ordering a Chipolte with extra rice. Try ordering a cola drink with a full glass of ice. Try ordering a MacDonalds sausage biscuit without cheese. Try ordering fries without salt. They're not worth $1 per hour.

So Picchi, what level should revenue be set at? How much should owners and managers be paid? Should customers be allowed in the store if they are not vaccinated? Should everyone have health insurance? How many days off for maternity leave? Should men get maternity leave? Since your business is unlikely to be profitable, should you get a government subsidy?

There should not be a minimum wage set by the government. It should be based on supply and demand. The goverment-set minimum wage has probably held wages back. Basically, the government said this is all you have to pay entry-level people and that's what companies did.

So, who really benefits from an increase in the minimum wage to $25? Suppose someone started a few years ago when the minimum was $5 and over time their salary increased, due to their hard work and profivciency, to $25. Along comes the $25 new wage edict and the worker is back at earning minimum wage. The worker was already earning 400% more than minimum wage before the edict so the worker has taken a giant step backward. To keep the existing worker happy at their job, the employer needs to increase their salary to keep in line with the huge increase in minimum wage. Now imagine what happens with all the other workers that will demand corresponding salary increases to keep ahead of the new minimum wage. Employers will require huge price increases for products and services. Government will get a huge income tax windfall. Unions will demand massive increases in dues. The losers? Look in the mirror.

A 25 minimum wage would devastate the middle class. Effectively making half the population borderline poor. If your wages are 26 per hour, it won't be doubled if minimum wage is doubled.

The mood of the nation is dark. You can see it in the University of Michigan consumer confidence index, which plunged to 70.3 in August, down 11.0 points from July.
